Larry seems like a down to Earth dedicated to Cardinals football guy. He could play anywhere and chooses to rough it out in Arizona. I respect that.

Ravens announce four-year deal for John Harbaugh... The Ravens announced on Thursday that head coach John Harbaugh will hold a press conference on Friday, which seemed like a pretty good indication that he and the team had finalized the contract extension that they’d been talking about since late in the regular season. The team went beyond giving indications that the extension was done a little later in the day. The Ravens announced that Harbaugh has signed a new four-year deal with the team. Harbaugh was signed through the 2019 season, so he’ll now be under contract through 2022. Assuming he sees out that deal, Harbaugh’s run in Baltimore will last at least 15 seasons. He has gone 104-72 in the regular season and 10-6 in the playoffs, including a Super Bowl XLVII win, over his first 11 years with the team. (PFT)
Saints’ Benjamin Watson calls out Roger Goodell... One of the NFL’s most respected players is calling out the commissioner. Saints tight end Benjamin Watson put a statement on Twitter today ripping Roger Goodell for his failure to address the missed pass interference penalty that went against the Saints late in the fourth quarter of the NFC Championship Game. “Commissioner Goodell,” Watson wrote on Twitter. “We all realize that football is an imperfect game, played, coached and officiated by imperfect people. What occurred last Sunday in New Orleans though was outside of that expected and accepted norm. Your continued silence on this matter is unbecoming of the position you hold, detrimental to the integrity of the game and disrespectful and dismissive to football fans everywhere. From the locker room to Park Ave., accountability is what makes our league great. Lead by example. We are waiting.” Watson is one of the NFL’s most respected players, by his teammates and his opponents, by players and fans. In addition to his impressive accomplishments on the field during a 15-year career, he’s active off the field and was a finalist for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award last year. When he speaks, it speaks volumes. And he’s right: Goodell needs to speak up. (PFT) __________ __________________________ I would be interested to hear what Mr. Goodell had to say.
Goodell: “We wanted LA in the Super Bowl.” Is the mike on? You promised this wasn’t going to be live.
Dear saints do any of the following dont squander a 13-0 lead dont settle for field goals in the redzone score tds and lead 21-0 instead of only 13-0 run, run, run, kick field goal instead of pass stop clock, run rams time out, pass stop clock dont turn the ball over in the endzone I mean seriously what is he supposed to say anyways. Opps we effed up? The league office has already said that so why do you need the commissioner to come out and say it too? The league has also already said they will be looking to make changes (most likely certain penalties reviewable) so again what is Goodell supposed to say?
Maybe just hearing Goodell reiterate what has already been said by the NFL would be some sort of consoling thing the Saints could live with. I don't see either how it matters or makes a difference, the New Orleans Saints arnt going to get that game back. I can feel their pain in new Orleans and what transpired was ridiculous, but it over and time to move on. The only thing possible for Goodell and the NFL to do, would be sure this never, ever happens again and I think it would be wise of Goodell to personally address this publicly.
speak up about what ? the ref made a mistake. he blew it. it's on him. what the hell should goodell say? he sucks? he blew it? does that change anything? you lost on a terrible call. it sucks. you lost. it's over. the saints are acting like they are the only team in sports history to get cheated on a bad call. fans suing, mike thomas wanted the outcome changed, etc.
Enough of the non-stop crying yeah it was a real bad non call the NFL is not going replay the game, anyway the SUPERDOME is known for some Strange Azz calls but I would pissed off too about that but it's done and over
Dan Orlich, who was believed to be the oldest former Green Bay Packer and the last player alive who had played for legendary coach Curly Lambeau, has died at the age of 94. Orlich was an eighth-round pick in the 1949 NFL draft, and his first season was Lambeau’s last season. Years later he shared fond memories of Lambeau, even though by the time Orlich got to the NFL, Lambeau’s style was outdated. “I thought he was a neat guy,” said Orlich. “I thought he was a little behind the times. The T-formation was in, modern football was on its way in. He kind of clung to the old, old rough style. But I liked Curly.” Orlich is a Hall of Famer at the University of Nevada, where he played in two bowl games, helping the Wolf Pack get to the Salad Bowl in 1947 and the Harbor Bowl in 1948. Those were the first two bowl games in Nevada football history, and after Orlich left they wouldn’t reach another bowl until 1992. Although Orlich liked Lambeau, he didn’t much like Lambeau’s successor, Gene Ronzani, and retired after two seasons playing for Ronzani in part because he didn’t enjoy the style of coaching. After retiring from the NFL, Orlich became a competitive shooter, and he is in the Trapshooting Hall of Fame. (PFT)
Greg Zuerlein kept foot injury a secret from Rams... Would the Los Angeles Rams have elected to have Greg Zuerlein attempt a 57-yard field goal in overtime of the NFC Championship Game if they had known he was injured? Maybe that's why he didn't tell anyone he was hobbled. It's a footnote, of course, in what will go down as one of the most clutch kicks in NFL playoff history. Zuerlein's game-winning boot, as well as his 48-yard kick near the end of regulation and a 24-yarder earlier in the fourth, all came after he strained his planting foot while warming up at halftime. Rams special teams coach Jim Fassel noted earlier this week that Zuerlein hit a steel plate in the Merecedez-Benz Superdome turf. Zuerlein didn't reveal to Fassel that he was hurting until after the game. "Yeah, hit something hard in the ground. Just warming up at halftime, landed on something that didn't give as much as turf and then that's when it started hurting," Zuerlein said, via the Rams' official site. "But, hopefully, a few more days of treatment and it'll be good to go." Zuerlein missed practice Friday and did not participate in the portion open to the media Saturday. But he had no injury designation in the Rams' final report of the week, which was an estimation for if Super Bowl LIII were this Sunday. Coach Sean McVay has maintained throughout the week Zuerlein is expected to play against the New England Patriots. "One day at a time, but he's feeling good," McVay said. "No setbacks with that, so all things are pointing in the right direction for us." Zuerlein said his left foot was in some pain after the incident, though he obviously showed no ill effects. "It hurt, but not enough to stop me from playing, obviously," Zuerlein said. "It really wasn't anything special about it, just get the job done." Both of his long kicks came on fourth-and-7 and with the game essentially on the line. The 57-yarder was his longest make of the season. "As soon as you cross the 50, you legitimately feel like you're in a position to come away with points," McVay said. "I just think his resolve, his mental toughness -- watching the way that he handled being out earlier in the year and how he was so supportive of the guys that were in his role, I think demonstrated a security that exists on his part. But he's a really good, productive player. And he's been outstanding. ... "We wouldn't be here if it wasn't for him." (NFL.com) __________ ______________________ He will be good to go come Super Bowl time...
Tom Brady heaps praise on “little brother” Julian Edelman... Last year, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady played the Super Bowl without receiver Julian Edelman. This year, Brady will have at his disposal the player Brady calls his “little brother.” “Yeah, we have a great relationship, Jules and I, and I trust him so much,” Brady told reporters on Saturday. “We’ve put in so many hours together in the meeting room, in the film room. . . . He’s always been kind of like my little brother, in a good way. I don’t have a little brother but he’s kind of like a little brother and he knows how much I love him. What he’s done with his career has been incredible and he’s so impressive as a player, as a leader — to go from playing quarterback in college to receiver in the pros and then to become really a dominant receiver in the pros, I think speaks to his work ethic. I’m so happy in everything that he achieves and obviously I can’t say enough good things about Jules.” Edelman is only the second player in NFL history with more than 100 postseason receptions, joining Jerry Rice. “It’s really beyond incredible for Jules to do that,” Brady said. “When you talk about Jerry Rice, that’s a guy that’s set every receiving record in the history of the NFL basically. For Jules to be right there as one of two guys including him, again it’s just such a credit to Jules. Look at his stature. He wasn’t built like Megatron. He’s just built the way he was built and I think he’s just worked so hard over the years to learn how to play receiver. I think his quarterback background’s probably helped him in terms of knowing where to be, knowing how to get open and knowing when the quarterback wants to get rid of the ball. He’s just done an incredible job.” Edelman had nine catches for 151 yards in the divisional round against the Chargers and nine for 96 against the Chiefs in the AFC title game. His presence has been critical to the ability of Brady to get rid of the football quickly, quickly enough to avoid getting hit. (PFT)
Anyone else catching the annual parade of NFL Films vids of past Super Bowls? We've seen them all before, but this year it's jumping out at me more than ever how different the game is now. Hits that were highlights then would be flagged for targeting today, and a key touchdown catch from SB 12 would have been an incomplete pass under the current rules.
Haha. Golden Richards....That play was very debatable even back then. Iconic play, but no question it would have been ruled incomplete today. I'm sure Denver fans would say, that was not a catch even in 1977.... How about the hit Jack Tatum put on poor Sammie White in SB XI? I know he had that reputation, but they might have banned him from the sport for a hit like that today....In fact, I'm positive Jack Tatum would not have been allowed to play in today's game without seriously altering his style. I tell my son all the time. Today's game is SO different....He enjoys watching the old NFL films that show how football was played back in the day....The difference in brutality is pretty dramatic.
Some of those defensive greats couldn't and wouldn't last in todays watered down game. Lott, Atwater come to mind... every hit they made would draw a flag.
