Can I get a good analysis on the game?

    I hate recording games, so I didn’t.

My kid had a hockey game (goal and assist for the kid and a 5-2 win thank you very much) - kids take priority always, sometimes very painfully.

Tried to watch both but it was impossible.

I read through most of the game thread and saw some people questioning Nagy, some criticisism of Trubs.

Why only one TD? How was the D? No pass rush I read..

Seemed like we really missed Eddie and Bryce. I’ve always been a McManis supporter but he’s a role player and not a full time DB.

Did visor boy get away from running the ball again?

I dunno about "good" analysis, i feel like crap and have a damn 10am that somehow slipped thru my scheduling football firewall so im extra pissed off. But....

That was exactly the kinda game many of us were expecting, a nerve shredding knife fight. The Eagles are exactly who we thought they were, the defneding champs, a very good, well coached team who's playing well with a strong OL and a great fit for their system at QB. This always felt way tighter than the line suggested, its why gobearrsss and i were nervous. Speaking of gobearrsss this is also why he floated the idea of letting the Vikes walk it in at the end. Not saying he was right but we would've handled the Vikings, the Eagles always felt way way tougher.

Your guy Jackson was missed bear-man, Foles made several tight throws that just got in before Bush could do something. Jackson would've done something. I don't know why they suited him. If you suit him then you play him, even if only in big moments. I don't recall him being out there but then i was shitfaced. But if he can't play then suit someone who can.......like Wims. Speaking of which.

Was that a Browns fan in the game thread talking about the receivers? I actually agree with him. As a group i thought the pass catchers had a bad game in a variety of ways. I'll get to Trubisky, but i really didn't think they helped him out much. Not a ton of drops, but just not playing their postions well enough. ARob needs to get his toe down on that sideline catch, i don't give a F if you have to eat turf afterwards. Do these guys practise scramble drills? Seemed like no one was there for Trubs when he got flushed. Shaheen is a turd.

I actually thought McManis was the best CB last night. Fuller made one good pass breakup at the goaline and i think one other all game. Other than that he was pretty shitty. Gave up too many easy complettions. Jeffery plain beat him.

Nagy called a HORRIBLE game for about 3 and a half quarters. Giving Howard 10 carries all game is unforgivable. They barely threw downfield until they were trailing in the 4th, it took WAY too long for Nagy to switch it up. He allowed the game to be kept in front of the Eagles D which let them fly to the ball. He was too scared to challenge the Eagles DB's imo. When he finally did they torched Maddox.

Trubisky was up and down, he didn't kill the team with turnovers but he did fail to see some redzone chances. He's gotta get more consistent with his progressions. Overall he made some some bad decisions and was incredibly lucky not to have 2-3picks to his name. Don't believe the stat lines, Foles played better than Trubisky. That said, Foles had way more support. A far better game plan from his play caller and more support from his receivers who played well and made plenty of good cacthes.

I love blang but in my humble opinion his default setting for judging the D is too harsh. This isn't the 90's, you don't just hold teams to 10points in this day and age, especially good offenses like the Eagles. Case in point was the Amos PF for helmet to helmet. That was on 3rd down and would've got them off the field. That directly led to 7points. They only gave up 17, without that one foul its 10points. We really gonna fault a Defense for givng up 10 to the friggin Eagles in 2019?? Yes that late drive really hurt but its football now, you aren't keeping them out forever. They also managed 2 turnovers which kept the team in the game when the Offense was turning 3 and outs into an artform.

The answer isn't to say they should've pitched a shutout, its to say that POS offense should've put some goddam points up for a change. For all the talk in the media of Nagy's creativity etc he presides over a 17ppg Offense, thats horseshit.

Personally i attach 1% blame for this loss on the Defense, at most. This game was lost by the POS kicker and by Nagy.

That was longer than expected. Just gonna stop by the kill parkey thread then im out for a while.

I thought the Bears came out on the field looking pretty cocky and then played more like last year's team than this year's. I thought most of the game was really awful. Poorly-thought out and poorly-executed. It should never have been allowed to come down to the wire with the pressure all being on Parkey. There's a reason why he's been passed around like a bottle of cheap bourbon through the entire league. Nagy didn't even talk to Parkey after the game and did you hear the boos that surrounded him while he jogged off the field?

Bear-man, congrats to you and your kid for the hockey game. It was better that you missed the Bears game. The entire thing was a stressful and miserable experience (that gave me a bad migraine) but would have been completely worth it had we pulled it out.

I'm not going to give much analysis but I will vent a little. First, fuck you to the asshole who put a huge 4 foot by 4 foot Eagles poster in my office that greeted me as I walked in this morning. I have no idea who it was. I'm pretty vocal about my Bears support here but most of the people here (DC) are split between Cowboys and Redskins and hate the Eagles but obviously somebody felt the need to rub it in.

As for the game, the Eagles are the better team no doubt. They were better on offense, better on defense and don't have Barfey. Sometimes you have to admit you lost to a better team and we did.

Ev, I'm not placing the entire blame on the defense. But I'm willing to give them 33% of it. No pressure on Foles in the second half. No sacks. No takeaways. Several missed tackles and bad coverage. It was not the defense we've watched all season. They didn't come up with that last stop when we needed. They had to win it for us because offense and special teams could not be relied upon. The offense blew multiple chances to add more points throughout the game. Most of the blame for that falls to Mitch for his failure to recognize open WRs in the end zone on multiple occasions. Mitch was great in the 4th quarter and great in the last drive but it doesn't matter.

As for Parkey, do not excuse his failure because the ball may have been tipped. We know his leg is weak for two reasons 1) he admitted in windless conditions that his max distance is 53 yards and 2) the kick right before he was iced only barely cleared the crossbar by a yard or two. If the ball was really blocked, given Parkey's weak leg, it would not have hit halfway up the upright. That kick was going to miss no matter. And fucking Pace better not use that as an excuse to not cut his ass.

Speaking of Pace, he deserves credit for the Nagy hire and building a good defense. I'm not ready to say we won the Mack trade, especially if we don't make it back to the playoffs the next few years and the Raiders cash in with our picks. Pace wins that trade if we consistently field a contender but not a playoff one and done. And no way he deserves executive of the year for paying Parkey as much guaranteed money as he did.

My hopes were sky high coming into the playoffs. As high as they've been since 2006. After we lost the Super Bowl and lost the NFCCG to the Packers I rebounded pretty quickly because both times I naively assumed we'd be back in Super Bowl contention the following season. Well, I'm not going to make that mistake again. I fully expect us to miss the playoffs next year as been our pattern. I will refuse to ever get my hopes up that we are a Super Bowl team until that game clock hits 00:00 in the Super Bowl game with us leading on the scoreboard.

Tough day to be a Bears fan. The kind of day that makes me wonder why I care as much as I do.

There are some things I completely agree with. And a few things I see differently.

But, other than the fact that the guy we paid 9 million dollars to, to kick a fucking ball, this point you made is fucking spot the fuck on.

We ignored that their DB's were weak as fuck. I noted this weak point...

    We did not attack them.

We played scared. I think some of this had to do with the fact that Trubisky actually got hurt early. Not injured. But he took a hit to his legs and I think that hampered some of our play calling.

Our coaching played to get us in position to win it at the end. They did that. Then we relied on a player our coaches should have cut...

I saw a replay from the game I don't know when in the game it happened but he pulled up lame a little as he was running out of bounds with no contact. From what I then heard it was his heal or ankle.

  7. vvarder Franchise Player Bears

On that last drive our coaches did what they could (minus some questionable time management) and relied on a player our *GM* should have cut. Let’s put the blame where it belongs. Pace. This isn’t like some low level guy where you need coaches input on how he’s doing with the rest of the team. He kicks the ball. You see every make and miss, the how and why. Its the most cut and dried of all positions on the roster. Pace did a lot of good this offseason, kicker was a season ending miss. That’s the ups and downs with this guy.

To the thread I don’t have any good analysis to offer, other than it was a defensive struggle throughout. The offense really didn’t do much, but they did have some moments. We did not run the ball very well at all, the Eagles several times met Howard in the backfield and Cohen’s sideline magnet was in full show. Trubs has his usual overthrows a few times, but overall I think he played well, and again those pumpfakes I loved. I don’t get deer in headlights from him at all. Also worth noting he for the most part played mistake free football, though there were 2-3 near picks.

Defense was solid you can’t blame them too much. They got two interceptions that the offense did nothing with. They did give up the drive at the end of the game but holding the Eagles to 16 points is not bad at all. Sure they could have had a heroic effort but they are way last on my blame list.

  8. dlinebass5 M.V.P. Bears

Just to point out, because I've seen him praised for the pump fakes after the game on a couple occasions - those were part of the play. That was all a practiced, planned play. He wasn't using those pump fakes to pull defenders off based on intuition, but rather because he's been told to over and over again, for those particular plays.

The problem with Trubisky is that he's going to throw to his first man. There's a reason why Nagy has had to be so hands-on with the offense (Trubs needing to look to the sidelines before play, etc) - Trubs just isn't far enough along yet to control the offense. Hell, I'm surprised he played as well as he did, considering that every team knows his tendencies. That's a credit to Nagy's offense. However, Trubs needs to grow into a real NFL QB - one that can look to multiple receivers, and maybe even one who knows when those pump fakes should be used without being told to script them.

Not necessarily tearing him down, here - just pointing out that he's got a long way to go. However, if he can do it, we won't need our defense to be the best in the league just to get to the playoffs, again.

It was probably me both times, but whether it’s planned or not is irrelevant, he still sold it like he does on playaction, etc, and something Bears QBs rarely do well.

I agree he’s got a ways to go, but he has been progressing. Mongo and tuna pointed out there were some open guys that weren’t his first read so that’s a problem we know about, but with an off-season of stability, he got some playoff experience... I’m optimistic.

  10. bigrobo876 Franchise Player Bears

Yes there are times when the pump fake is by play design. Just like with play action. Trubs does a good job of selling the fake. It’s bad that he takes to coaching well? There are other times when he uses it to move a defender. Is he at a Rich Gannon level yet? No but he has shown the ability to manipulate defenders early in his development. Both with his arm and his eyes.

Saying he is going to throw to his first man is misleading when you say it negatively. Because the ability to read a defense is going to tell him who that first read should be. So I would disagree with your assessment. IMO Trubisky’s gets in the most trouble when his mechanics break down making his throw inaccurate. Take a look at how well the ball is spread around in this offense. He is not a lock on to his guy kind of QB. His ability to avoid pressure and make a play when things breakdown were evident in his play this season.

Nagy’s offense is complicated and puts a lot of pressure on the QB to perform both pre and post snap. Trubisky has shown the ability to have complete control. Impressive considering the system is new to the entire team and it wasn’t only Trubisky’s first year in the offense but also his first throwing to Miller, Robinson, Gabriel and Burton. So your dam right Nagy had to be hands on.

Trubisky needs to continue to grow as a QB. No doubt but there were plenty of other “real QB’s” he either performed as well if not better than this past season.

Looking back at it myself....considering i didn't get a wink more than 3hours that night and somehow managed to wake up both still shitfaced and hungover to F at the same time..... that post was remarkably coherent. I totally could've fooled a cop too..... providing he didn't get any closer than 10ft from the car after he'd pulled me over...

Anyway, some of it was a bit harsh looking back. I stand by the ARob sideline catch comment, but shouldn't have lumped him in with the others like that cos overall he had a superb game and was head and shoulders above the other pass catchers.

I don't think what i wrote about Trubs was unfair per se, but it def should've been more balanced out because he played outstanding in that 4thQ and made some great throws as others have said. Maybe i was just feeling a bit negative, can't imagine why heh.

But i can only imagine what numbers those two would've had if Nagy had just grown a pair sooner. ARob going 200+yards receiving and Trubs 400+ passing, really not unrealistic.

Yeah im just not in a position to give Nagy any kind of benefit of the doubt like that personally. You're thinking being he wanted fewer longer developing plays out there cos there would be less chance of Trubs having to move around/avoid the rush/take off if he got flushed? Possible. But i really saw no difference to the playcalling from pre getting hurt to the 4th Q other than the designed keepers were gone and the options largely too. I just think Nagy playcalled scared.

BTW mongo, while im thinking about it cos i never remember to mention this usually. But im gonna be in HK in Feb with work. Actually i'll be in Shenzen mostly but am def gonna hit HK/Maccau a couple of times. Dunno how often you're over there these days but if there's overlap and we can schedule it let me know and i'll buy you a beer or ten.
