Merry Christmas Lounge Houndz! May you find yourselves surrounded by friends and Loved ones. PS welcome to the club junior
It was a very Browns Christmas at the Lyman house this year! First, my Step-daughter gave me a vintage (circa 2001) Browns Rockin' Randall (#232/10000). It looks like a marionette in a Browns uniform that's affixed to a base and dances to Hank Williams singing "Are You Ready for some Football?" and it's in pristine condition! Then my daughter gave me a framed wall banner that shows the Browns' logos from 1946 through the present. Finally, Mrs. Lyman got me two New Era Browns' hats. Both are the Elf logos. One is Cream, the other is Brown. (I also bought the two oldest Grandsons Elf Logo hats. Lyman Junior just doesn't know it yet.)
The wife (Steeler fan) and I agreed not to buy anything team related for the kids until they really pick a team. Went home to visit my Mom for Christmas and got there on Sunday an hour before the game started. We turned the pregame on and started watching. As soon as they switched over to the local broadcast, my Mom comes in, tosses my son a present and says, "I know it's early but you can't watch the game without this..." She got him his first jersey with a Mayfield #6 on it!!!!!!!! And he got a win with it as well. He has been leaning mostly Browns before this Sunday, but we got him now full time. He was cheering the Steeler loss later on.
As a lifelong fan who goes back to the heyday of Jim Brown, I'm ecstatic about this season...finally. Still not thrilled with Baker's on field antics at times, but hoping he matures a bit by next season. HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!!!!! Rok
I found out after I took my son to his first Browns game (@Houston a few weeks ago), that he was my early 90's Snoopy and Woodstock Browns tee underneath his Crowell Jersey underneath my Haden Color Rush. If only he could have gotten a win!
The tall one on the right. He surprised his Mom and came home from the Air Force for the holidays. At the moment, he's stationed at Tech School in Amarillo, TX. Will then go to Seymor Johnson AFB in N. Carolina in March. He caught her totally by surprise. The shorter one graduated from college last spring. He's considering going into the USAF or USCG, applying for OCS and then getting his Masters degree courtesy of the G.I. Bill. OBTW: They're BOTH great kids.
A man walks into the pharmacy with his 8-year old son. They happen to walk by the condom display, and the boy asks, "What are these, Dad?" To which the man matter-of-factly replies, "Those are called Condoms son. Men use them to have safe sex." "Oh I see," replied the boy pensively. "Yes, I've heard of that in health class at school." He looks over the display and picks up a package of 3 and asks, "Why are there 3 in this package?" The dad replies, "Those are for high school boys, one For Friday, one for Saturday, and one for Sunday." "Cool" says the boy. He notices a 6 pack and asks, "Then who are these for?" "Those are for college men," the dad answers, "two For Friday, two for Saturday, and two for Sunday." "WOW!" exclaimed the boy, "then who uses THESE?" he asks, picking up a 12 pack. With a sigh and a tear in his eye, the dad replies. "Those are for married men, son. One for January, one for February, one for March..."
Crazy Crextin Mad Musings... After an exciting season I decided to go back and review my post draft comments and compare to how the season worked itself out… #1 Baker Mayfield QB Offensive Rookie of the Year and only started 13-games! Nuff said. His moxy/bravado reminds me of Joe Nameth. #4 Denzel Ward CB Turned out to be a great pick; filled a need on the defensive side of the ball. Now, if the kid can stay healthy. He missed three games due to concussion. Agree with Bluez here, concerned about his melon and availability on any given Sunday. He should be a “lock down” guy for years to come, as long as he’s on the field. #33 Austin Corbett OT O-line players tend to develop more slowly than others. We’ll see how he develops. Looks like a solid depth player and may eventually work into a starting role. #35 Nick Chubb RB Actually turned into a great pick once Haley(/Hue)(/Hyde) was(/were) jettisoned and they (Freddie)actually started using Chubb. Showed the ability to get it done once utilized. Definitely a guy who gets better as the game wears on. Not just a plodder but has home run ability. Pass catching skills improved throughout the season. #67 Chad Thomas DE We didn’t get to see much of this guy this year, no real impact as a rotational player. Not sure if he’s a flop or a slow developer. #105 Antonio Callaway WR OK, I was wrong and Dorsey was right…sort of… with the exception of Calloway’s traffic stop at 0’dark 30; driving with a suspended license and with the police allegedly finding “a small amount of marijuana” Calloway actually put in a solid rookie season. Now that the season is over this incident may resurface. I hope it’s over and done (crosses fingers) Stayed clean and got better as the season wore on. Calloway has the ability to stretch defenses. Hopefully he continues to improve his route running skills. He is definitely becoming one of Baker’s favorite weapons. Has been making some incredible sideline grabs throughout the season. If he stays clean and out of trouble will make a great compliment to Landry for several years. # 150 Genard Avery, LB, Memphis IMHO the best pick of this class(steal). A complete package, he plays the pass as well as the run; effective as a pass rusher. Has become a major contributor on defense and is likely to get better. When healthy the Browns have one of the best LB corps in the league. # 175 Damion Ratley, WR, Texas A&M # 188 Simeon Thomas, CB, Louisiana-Lafayette Ratley played in a few games, may or may not develop into a rotational player. Simeon didn’t make the cut. Dorsey made some in season moves that actually improved the roster. In the case of Hue, Haley, Gordon, Coleman addition by subtraction. I am surprised at how well Perriman has progressed. Hopefully we got a steal of a deal and this guy will haunt the Ratturds for years to come. I am not entirely sold on Williams as a HC, but he did go 5-3 as HC of the Browns. Plus, I'm not sure of the candidates available I'm not sure I'd pick any of them ahead of Williams. I have to agree with others that Williams Junior is not the guy who should be the DC next year. By all appearances Freddie, at least, will remain the OC. My No. 2 candidate at this point. We'll see how the coaching search goes. Honestly I don't think I've felt this good about this team going into the off-season since Belicheck was the Head Coach
