He's going to get looks by default. The NFL loves to recycle former head coaches and with the potential for up to 8 vacancies this off-season he will likely get his fair share of interviews.
the Eagles do have a lot of injuries on Defense and no one to play corner bc every is hurt. Not an excuse there, the defense even as a MASH unit couldn't stop the Girl Scouts of America. even the bad players are hurt. i stressed time and time again for their GM to get someone to play defense at CB before the trade deadline. He went out and got Golden Tate? Bad move as he can't play CB. He-Howie Roseman didn't address the defense and a lackluster team scored and scored and scored when they wanted too. when the Eagles scored and they needed a stop, Zeke ran and hurdled right over their asses. Dak played as he always should - calm, cool and collective. How he's not a better QB is beyond me? Wentz again missing guys wide open to pass to covered guys. Play calling like 3rd and a screen when you needed a first down late in the game was a terrible call. Many calls DP makes have been terrible this year. Defense can't beat the big teams and someone on FB posted 1 sentence that makes a lot of sense ... "who has Carson Wentz really beat in his career?" "Where is his signature win over a top team?" The answer ? 0 ! He doesn't have one. He hasn't beaten a top team. Interesting point. Wentz isn't going anywhere, but Captain Wonderful isn't so wonderful this year. Like someone posted online - "he's a stat hog but nothing more." Great point. Congrats Cowboys - you showed up and kicked the Eagles asses on their home turf. See ya in Big D on December 9th.
Bengals fire defensive coordinator Teryl Austin... Giving up 51 points to the Saints has cost Bengals defensive coordinator Teryl Austin his job. Austin has been fired this morning, Josina Anderson of ESPN reports. This was Austin’s first season as the Bengals’ defensive coordinator after spending the last four years as the Lions’ defensive coordinator. He has been mentioned in the past as a head-coaching candidate, but this year the Bengals’ defense has been a mess, and head coach Marvin Lewis has decided that it’s time to make a change. Despite the ugly defense, the Bengals are 5-4 and still in the thick of the playoff race. Lewis himself will likely take a more direct role in coaching the defense for the rest of the season, as the Bengals try to find their way to the postseason. This is the kind of game Dallas has to play - and should have been playing - all year. I know the brass wants to "prove" that Dak is worthy of an extension, but the offense has to run through Zeke. The O-line has taken some hits, but Zeke is still one of the most dynamic players in the league. Feed him. Control the clock, control the tempo - make teams play YOUR game. It's why they had success in 2014 and 2016. Now that they have a #1/1B receiver in Amari Cooper, maybe they can sustain more drives.
He might get a look, but he's not exactly a "hot prospect" at the moment. Plus he didn't have a great track record in his first head coaching go-round, and he's got a bit of a prickly personality.
One of the things I keep a tab on throughout the year is potential coaching vacancies, guys that might get a crack at them and what names are being rumored at the moment. His name has been circulating since last off-season and has actually picked up a little steam this year despite Philly's defensive struggles. The difficulty with finding the proper head coach is usually aligned with finding someone with coaching experience that has been in a role that involves some degree of delegation. For every big hit that's out of the box like McVay, there are 10 horrible hires like Marc Trestman that owners fear and that fear plays a large role in all things NFL. Basically, GMs are putting their jobs on the line with every decision they make with the coaching staff and hiring a guy like Jim can buy more time rather than less. The simple idea that if it doesn't work you have a more steady hand on fixing it comes into play, whereas if you make that out of the box hire and it blows up in magnificent fashion not only do you see it in the win/loss column but you also hear it from every pundit with a mic or a pen. A general manager can survive a losing record if he can improve the team and continue to make changes on his staff. It's a lot harder for that same manager to survive a losing record if the press is constantly calling him out for making a hire that everyone questioned before a down was ever played. That alone boosts the stock of former HCs.
Zeke is just a beast. he should be commanding Le'Veon Bell money. He should be the leading rusher in the NFL. He's big, powerful and fast. He's like a young Jim Brown ! The first down celebration and eating cereal from him and the first down celebration from Jordan Matthews is outplayed. get back to the huddle you asses! lol.
Saints sign Brandon Marshall as Dez replacement... The New Orleans Saints are moving quickly to fill the spot previously held by Dez Bryant, who suffered a torn Achilles tendon on the final play of Friday's practice last week. The Saints signed veteran wide receiver Brandon Marshall, coach Sean Payton announced Monday. Marshall, who previously spent time with the Seattle Seahawks, joins his seventh team on his 13-year career, a span where he totaled 970 catches for 12,351 yards and 83 touchdowns. In seven games (two starts) with the Seahawks this season, the 34-year-old Marshall produced 11 catches for 136 yards and a touchdown before his release in October. The Saints signaled last week their desire for a veteran wide receiver opposite of Michael Thomas, who leads the team in receiving. And Marshall was among of trio of receivers, which included Bryant, brought in for a workout. "[Marshall] moved around well," Payton said during his Monday conference call. "He's smart, he's experienced. He's someone, again, that he's been in a number of systems and overall had a good workout. He's got good length and size. He's another big target. We'll see how it goes here this week and what our plans our." Bryant was expected to fill the void of a dependable No. 2 receiver before going down with the season-ending injury a day after signing a one-year deal. Now, it's Marshall's turn to help out. Good stuff. I'm a bit surprised his name has been garnering momentum given some the problems the Eagles have had this year. Prior to last night's win, one name I read in conjunction with a possible (likely?) replacement for Jason Garrett was Lincoln Riley (Oklahoma). Browns could also be a contender for his services since he coached Baker Mayfield. My only hope is that Dallas doesn't have a strong finish where they're vying for a playoff berth in the final week or two, giving Jerruh a reason to bring JG back.
Zeke still might end up leading the league. Gurley has 150 yards on him, but has played one more game. And it's possible the Rams sit their regulars last week of the year.
i doubt they had a contract incentive with money tied to a bonus for winning it like baseball players do.
What coaches do you feel might be linked to the Ravens this off-season, and who do you think would be a fit for their personnel and what they want to do going forward even if they might not end up being the candidate?
Some other coaches will find the pine earlier. Todd Bowles is done. If you want your coach, grab him now. Matt Lafleur of Tenn is my favorite.
Lafleur will be an interesting name this offseason. After having spent his pro coaching career under Kyle Shanahan (with three different teams), he now has two seasons on his own as an offensive coordinator. Add in that in his final season as QB coach, his QB became league MVP, and his resume is certainly interesting even if it doesn't show all that much experience at the coordinator level. Trestman is the perfect example of the wrong hire costing a GM his job. Phil Emery has been a scout since getting sacked by the Bears, and I don't think he's even had any interviews for GM, Assistant GM, or director of a team's college scouting department.
Eli Manning leads comeback, tosses three TDs in Giants 27-23 win over 49ers... Sterling Shepard hauled in a 3-yard touchdown pass from Eli Manning with 53 seconds left to play to lift the New York Giants to a 27-23 victory over the San Francisco 49ers on Monday night. After a 30-yard field goal from Robbie Gould gave the 49ers a three-point lead with 2:46 left to play, Manning marched the Giants 75 yards on nine plays before connecting with Shepard for the go-ahead score. The drive was a disjointed mess with four penalties called in five snaps before a key completion from Manning to Saquon Barkley for 23 yards moved the Giants inside the red zone. Two plays later, Shepard’s score gave the Giants the lead. A roughing the passer penalty gave the 49ers 15 yards to begin their final drive and a completion to Marquise Goodwin moved San Francisco to the Giants 21-yard line with one second remaining. However, a Nick Mullens throw to the end zone sailed beyond the field of play as the Giants held on for the victory. Manning completed 19 of 31 passes for 188 yards and three touchdowns in giving the Giants their second victory of the season. Matt Breida rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown and added a second score receiving as well for the 49ers. It was the second time this season Breida has eclipsed 100 yards rushing. His career-high came with 138 yards on 11 carries against the Detroit Lions in September. It took 17 carries for Breida to go over the century mark on Monday night. Mullens complete 27 of 39 passes for 250 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions in his second career start. Both interceptions were hauled in by Giants linebacker B.J. Goodson. After a 53-yard Gould field goal got the 49ers on the board early, Goodson’s first interception set up the Giants to take the lead. Three plays after the pick, Manning hit Odell Beckham for a 10-yard touchdown to give the Giants a 7-3 lead. Mullens bounced back from his first interception to lead the 49ers on a drive to re-take the lead. Breida polished off a 10-play, 65-yard scoring drive with a 3-yard touchdown to gave San Francisco a 10-7 advantage. Aldrick Rosas and Robbie Gould would trade field goals as the 49ers took a 13-10 lead into halftime. Breida would find the end zone for a second time on an 11-yard touchdown pass from Mullens on San Francisco’s opening drive of the third quarter to bump their lead to 20-10. Beckham would score his second touchdown of the night on a 20-yard pass from Manning to close the gap to 20-17 and a 31-yard Rosas field goal tied the game at 20 late in the third quarter. Beckham finished the game with four catches for 73 yards and two touchdown for the Giants. (PFT)
