I won't be around tomorrow to do the usual thread. So here goes my current thoughts.... Officials were mostly a non factor for the first quarter and a half and then the next two and half quarters was absolute garbage. Missed a blatant horse collar tackle that took place out of bounds....just awful calls everywhere. They took four points off the scoreboard for the Lions. The NFL officiating is brutally bad right now. Mitchell was great. He now has the best passer rating in team history in a game where a QB took 30+ passing attempts. 4th time this season he's had 4 touchdowns, 3 through the air today and the one he had on the QB draw. Played a nearly flawless game. Even had some misses that were actually great throws. Allen Robinson came up huge. That catch on his first TD was sick. I'm really falling in love with Anthony Miller. Dude can play and he has a certain toughness I really love. He's got a little bit of Hines Ward in him. I like that. This was sick.... Nice to have Mack back. Nichols being back came up big too. Overall...wasn't pleased with the defense taking their foot off the pedal. Didn't like the coverage today. Roquan Smith had a good game though. He keeps improving. Nothing in the run game. Jordan Howard started the game with a really good run and was barely used after that until near the end of the game. I'm tired of seeing Bears receivers either not moving their feet or moving backwards after the catch. Always move forward. Always. I was probably more impressed by Trubisky today than I was in the Tampa Bay game. How do you not love Bryce Callahan. Dude is playing his ass off. Had one bad play when he bit the pump fake from Stafford....should have had a sack there. The Buccaneers offense had over 500 yards of offense today and scored 3 points. 3. That has nothing to do with the Bears....I just needed to put that out there. I have no words for Cody Barfey...just unreal. Good win....HUGE game coming up next Sunday night.
Barfey quote after the game.... "Who's more frustrated than myself? This is my job, this is what I'm supposed to do and I'm missing out there. I just gotta trust in what I'm doing and trust that my lord and savior Jesus Christ makes no mistakes and for what reason, that was the day I was supposed to have". Yeah Cody....that was all gods fault. You fucking prick.
Listening to Nagy in the car after the game, it doesn't sound like he has any intention of canning him. Oh, and just putting this out there, since Pace shitcanned Gould, he has hit 70 of 73 FG attempts - which is 96% and best in the NFL over last 3 seasons. Yep, Parkey hit the goal post today more times than Gould has missed a FG in last 3 years.
We're going to have to play better defensively next week to win. No let up. Keep blitzing. Special teams was always fundamentally sound under Lovie. Right now they are complete trash. Whether it's bad coverage, bad kicking, poor awareness, this team is awful. They arguably cost the Bears the Patriots game. The awareness on that onsides kick was disgraceful. Needs to get better. Nagy basically said he's not interested to bring in anyone for tryouts. Parkey sucks and as we've seen from his quotes and body language, mentally fragile. Not what you want from a kicker who will be in high pressure situations at the end of the season. We will lose a key game because of him but Pace and Nagy can right that wrong by cutting him now. We need to hold people accountable!
In effort to be more positive after a W, Trubisky was awesome. Why can't he be this good every game? A-Rob is a #1 and hope he gets more targets going forward.
I was very pessimistic about Allen Robinson. One great year, followed by a couple mediocre/bad years and coming off an ACL tear. I hope he keeps proving me wrong.
I've been a fan of Anthony Miller since early in training camp. He isn't disappointing, minus the onsides kicks. Bryce Callahan is making more plays than our 'big named' CBs. Trubs was impressive, made a lot of good plays. Getting really comfortable in the pocket. I really liked how he handled the play where he danced in the pocket and ended up running for the first down. At least in real time it looked good, and not him panicking. The D needs to know how to play a complete game. Early in the season they looked gassed, now it looks like they just give up. It's been the same thing in every game. That has to change if they want to make the playoffs or go anywhere in January. 8 fucking points because of the kicker.
Parkey is getting $5.5 million this year (all guaranteed money). He has another $3.5 guaranteed for next year. There’s no way bears ownership will cut him until after the year at the very earliest.
So I'm starting with the bad, Parkey. While its already been mentioned that he thinks god is the reason he had a bad day, he also admitted that he doesn't practice at Soldier Field to get used to the wind/weather. Pat Mannelly ripped him a new one afterwards saying he, Gould, and Maynard went with ST coaches at least 1x per week to get acclimated with the wind. Parkey's also not going anywhere. 9 million guranteed. Somebody go find Cody Parker. That onside kick the Lions converted was embarrassing. While I'm not opining for the offseason, its looking Pace is going to have to choose between one of Callahan and Amos, both FA after the season to keep moving forward in the secondary and both are playing their way to real contracts. On the bright side, maybe the bears get a comp pick for a talented player leaving. The bears will have 19 mil in cap space (before cap goes up whatever it goes up), and they'll have Amos, Callahan, Massie, RRH, O'Donnell, Kush, White, Bellamy, and Cunningham being the notable players needing replacing or keeping. Taquan Mizzell needs to stop wasting a roster spot too. That kick that didn't bounce in the endzone was bad. Also with BWW, I see too much running backwards. Allen Robinson and Anthony Miller look like real receivers. And they have Gabriel, Burton, and Cohen all functioning like real weapons. This is a pleasant change/ Leno had a few stupid plays yesterday. So did the the very undisciplined Lions. While the bears finished, they got beat for most all of the 3rd and much of the 4th. Which was frustrating, because Patricia's defense looked as lost as Lovie's used to against simple quick slants. I'm curious, does anyone know/keep track of Kush/Witzmann at RG? The Fox crew said Kush was the starter but for most of the 1st I saw 78 at RG. Is his neck think still an issue or is this Nagy being cute changing OLinemen? What Khalil Mack did to Taylor Decker belongs on pornhub. But to actually put this in perspective, a 6'3, 250 lb Mack did that to a 6'6, 330 lb Taylor Decker. As Jon Gruden says, good pass rushers are hard to find.
Everyone knows how bad cuntler was at selling playaction, but did anyone notice Trubisky going through progressions after he handed the ball off?
Great win I. A game that shouldn’t have been as close as it was. Offensively Trubisky was lights out. Pass protection was real good and Mitch took advantage finding the open guy all day. The running game was bad and it was good to hear Nagy say as much after the game but what is he going to do to fix it? They ran it right up the gut less this game but still shitty production. This worries me going forward. Defense had a good game too despite giving up some points late. Prince had some big plays but he gave up way too many receptions. The fourth down play before the last TD was brutal. As were the refs for most of the game. Special teams need to get their shit straight. I would love an explanation on WTF they were trying to accomplish on that onside kick. It was way too easy for Detroit even after they just showed you what they were going to do. This game showed we are no longer the worst team in the division. Next week will tell us how close we are to being the best.
Pace has made some great signings but also some unforgivably and inexplicably dumb ones. This is one of them. I don't give a fuck how much we owe him. This guy sucks, is ok with the fact that he sucks, and I don't think he can make a high pressure kick when it matters. Are Pace/McCaskeys willing to possibly lose a chance at the playoffs, or lose a playoff game, because they kept this fool on the roster? Right now I'd choose Callahan. Guy just makes plays and is high energy all the time. While I'm not that high on Amos, I don't want to get into the cycle of replacing a safety every year as we did prior to 2017. I'd be fine with keeping him if the price is right.
Yep. It definitely feels great to beat the Lions again. But next week is our chance to make a statement on national TV.
Interestingly, the Lions special teams have been so bad that they fired their ST coordinator last week. And yet, they obliterate our ST's...
As if i couldn't have liked "Pinkeye" Parkey any less....he goes and puts it down to God. That little puke. Nevertheless, i have 100% confidence there is 0% chance Nagy looks elsewhere anytime soon. Thats not how he's running this team guys. Its not about the money, F the money. One of Nagy's cornerstone messages is that he believes in his players and he always has their back. His entire management style is based on this. Nagy would ride Parkey all the way to the playoffs regardless of form, and if we lost that game due to a missed kick he'd still stand up there in the post-game presser and tell us he believes in Parkey next time. I haven't seen every single pass Trubisky has thrown this season, but from what i have seen... that was the best game he's played this year and by extension the best of his Bears career. And what i LOVED was how well he surveyed the field and went through progressions properly. There is a calmness coming into his game i think that wasn't there in earlier games. And is it me or does he seem to also have more idea whats going on pre snap now? Seems much more in control. Hope he can hold himself together next week cos the test is about to become WAY tougher. Are the rules re batting the ball the same in college? Cos i know in the NFL you can't bat a ball forward. So then what the hell was Miller doing?? Honestly, the way he did that looked like it had been coached into him and done a hundred times in practise. So weird. Either way fire the ST coach, that unit is a rabble. The OL were great in pass blocking and terrible in run blocking, not for the first time. I like how Trubisky is coming on, but having to lean on him too much cos the run game has been clamped down....isn't a great situation going forward. Speaking on OL's, Daniels is crazy thick built in the lower half. Its like the guy has two tree trunks for legs. At one point yesterday a DL bull rushed him and he absorbed the contact for a yard then didn't move again! When that dude drops anchor it stays dropped. Only fair given my concerns about Noquan to state that was the best game ive seen him play. Made some very nice positive plays like last week but non of the bad plays, that i could see anyway. Getting better in pass coverage it seems. Always good dishing out the Loins a beatdown. Seeing that RB trying to jaw after the last play of the game following a big gain against a prevent D, was just comical. Dumb and cheap shot artists still i see. SOme things never change. This isn't even a remotely difficult question imo. Amos isn't playing near Callahan's level. Also, the S market is crushed these days for some reason. There's never been better value at the veteran Safety position. Offer Amos a team friendly deal or let him walk, he really isn't good enough to worry about it any more than that.
That's what I thought too. That it looked like he had been coached to do that and that it was a legal move. The unit as a whole just looks badly coached. I'd rather have Benny Cunnigham back returning kicks than Mazell. He'll never break one but he's not an idiot.
What’s crazy is at the end of the Seattle game the Bears executed the onside try perfectly. The front guys blocked and Miller snagged the ball and stepped out of bounds. This game first Miller Mutombo’s the ball out of bounds then acted like the ball is a live grenade while the front guys completely whiffed on making contact with anyone. I mean the Bears didn’t even touch the fucking ball.
Bears are 1st in the NFL with a +13 turnover ratio. 1st with 16 interceptions. 1st with 89 points off turnovers. 1st with fewest plays of 10+ yards. Also there's this....
