Now it's guaranteed Bears upset/beat Erin week 1!

I hope he now enjoys something akin to the kinda treatment Bumson received and one of the lineman smacks him right in the mouth.

Seriously though, its good that he's signed, about friggin time. But unless Smith has been doing a ton of conditioning work AND keeping the Bears fully updated on what he's been doing, i see no chance he plays in the preseason game in Denver. It'll be interesting to see if he even travels. You would want him with his teammates asap, but a first practice that involves another team brings less control over things and that means more risk. It'll be at altitude as well fwiw.

If Smith had dragged this out to the point he missed week1 against our most hated rivals, then he was dead to me. As it is his candy ass had better be up to speed and ready, cos this shit is must win straight out the gate.

Finally, who caved? I doubt it was CAA, so that leaves either Pace or Smith. My money would be on Pace.

From what I understand or rather what I have seen reported that he is a workout warrior, and with that said it won't stop him from getting hurt early like most of Pace's other top selections. If there is an Over/Under I'll take the Under.

I'm willing to bet is was Ro Smith that told CAA that enough was enough and he wanted to sign. I think Pace wasn't going to budge on the "off the field" crap. From Ro's history he has no off field issues so there was no reason to hold out for that anyway.

From what I have read the Bears and CAA compromised. Bears can only void guarantees if Smith receives a 3 game or higher suspension for an on field offense. He could have multiple single or double game suspensions and his money is safe. The only person in recent memory who has gotten a 3 game suspension was Vontaze Burdict for multiple head hunting offenses.

It took them that long to work that out? I doubt he gets any harsh treatment from teammates. Unless he pulls a hammy first day out.

    The compromise
    So guarantees only void if:

-3+ game suspension for something during a play

-2+ game suspension for on-field after a play where he is defending a teammate or not the aggressor

-1+ game suspension for on-field after a play where he is the aggressor

    Reasonable compromise, IMO https://t.co/uUBI2HaiKA

Too bad RSmitty had solid representation that was interested in looking out for his best interests, contrary to several people’s (ahem) fanhood. He could’ve just said fuck it and signed as soon as he was picked (with NO protection or guarantees) and saved everyone so much angst and grief.

    Selfish candy-ass PoS/s

Probably not but I think it was really about the team pushing back against setting precedents for future contracts...and I don't really fault them for that.

He possibly did more of a disservice to himself if he didn't get what he was fighting for, now if he lives up to the billing he was drafted fans will soon forget all this, but if he doesn't....Oh fuck!

He hired CAA to represent him and was letting them do their jobs. Unfortunately, CAA decided that the Bears would be a easy target to set a new presedent for all future contracts. In my opinion this should have been done when during the new CBA but I digress.

From my understanding Smith said enough is enough lets get this signed. I think CAA was looking for more national attention with this that they didn't get.

All of your posts say that you're never right dumb fuck.

Bad precedent set by the team and obviously endorsed by this bleeding set of pantyhose.

Leave it to the social justice dickhead to make this sound like some kind of win. The player gets protections from being stupid and the team will end up paying for it because that's like fair and all.

God bless the white man for riding in and saving another black man from hurting himself!

First thoughts on #Bears LB Roquan Smith: Didn't seem too rusty at all. The Bears gave him plenty of work and he seemed to handle it all well. He even had to cover Demaryius Thomas in the red zone in 7-on-7s. He also called the defensive plays. Bet on him adjusting quickly.

I don’t think CCA decided the Bears were an easy target. For them to go after what they wanted they needed first a draft pick that was willing to let them do it and second a platform to stand on.

Well it’s pretty obvious that Smith was a player who was willing to hold out for the demands that his representation felt he deserved. I would imagine that he could have forced CCA to give in and sign at any point.

The new helmet rule was the platform. Language in a contract that allows teams to go after guaranteed money if a player is suspended for both on field and off field behavior is nothing new. I would imagine you would find that type of language in most contracts. What CCA did was use the new helmet rule to try and cut away at that language. I have no proof but I would be willing to bet that CCA leaked that the hold up was language that had to do with the new helmet rule. When that news broke everyone in the twitterverse was bagging on the Bears for trying to put language in the contract that would void money for a new rule that hadn’t even been officiated yet in a game. Most people ate that up and it swayed public opinion to Smiths side. Very clever of CCA but it wasn’t the truth.

The Bears weren’t trying to put in any new language they just felt that a suspension was a suspension. If there was a suspension do to any new or old rule so be it. CAA wanted the new language that would make offenses under the new helmet rule immune to voided money. And supposedly the Bears did just that but that wasn’t good enough. CAA got the Bears to open the door a crack but they decided to try and push it open all the way. Now they wanted protection from any on field behavior. Unfortunately for CCA the news about the Bears giving in to the new helmet rule was leaked. This time probably by the Bears and public opinion swayed back to the Bears side. Putting Smith in a bad public spot light.

What I feel finally got the deal done was Smith starting to feel the heat and watching his chances of being a day one starter dwindle by the minute. CAA tried to save face by saying they got what they wanted but in reality those clauses in the contracts are for worst case scenario’s and I feel the Bears still have the protections they wanted. The Bears have a record of standing buy their players when it comes to suspensions. Danny Trevathan can attest to that. If Smith turns out to be a Vontez Burfict type A hole the Bears can still make an example of him by voiding his guarantees.

There's a difference between social justice and a self serving social justice jihadist.

Ain't a brother in the city that has respect for a white man that thinks we as a black community need him to protect us.

Fuck him and fuck you too if you think otherwise.
Yo, dumb fuck! You there bitch boy! Here boy! Good boy!

Now roll over and be dead bitch.

Unless you want the 11 back down your throat again. You seem to like having all that dark meat on your tonsils.

  20. I've got no idea what the hell else he posts, I never venture out of our Bears forum here, and don't care.

But again, only morons use social justice as an insult, so, you do the math.
