That BS ain’t right. If they commit some horrible crime yea f them. But you can’t hang minor crap over their heads. They are playing a violent game which requires a certain kind of mindset. A lot of times these guys are on the crazy side.

Sounds like another example of a naive kid listening to bad advice from blood-sucking agents and amateur “attorney” friends and family.

Get the fuck into camp asshole. You’re losing fans very quickly with this immunity bullshit.

Yeah... go out there and get the shit beat out of you with no guarantees and ignore the offset language, yeah, kid, that’s what you should do. Talk about bullshit “legal” advice. Too bad the fans just can’t push players onto the field at their own whim, right? These people are more than football players, they are people with family and others who rely on them.

That is some serious narrow-sighted bullshit.

This one is on the Bears. They're being dicks about this. I don't fault the kid for wanting his contract to be in his favor. He'd be signing the same ones the recent Bears picks have, but the team has shown good faith in not removing the guarantees from those contracts since signing. However, they'd be contractually within their rights to do so. I understand the player wanting the contract to outline the exact terms of the arrangement, and not rely on "good faith" from the team.

I just had a ten minute discussion with an HOA who told me I needed to place a $500 deposit prior to move-in to cover any potential damages to common area. They told me that, at the end of our lease, we'd be refunded the $500 pending review of any common area damage. I asked if they had any written terms and conditions for claims made to this deposit, or for returning this deposit. Without saying "No", explicitly, they kept telling me that it was an informal check, and that they've never had an instance where it wasn't refunded. Sorry, lady, but if you're holding my $500, I'm holding you more accountable than, "It's not a big deal".

This kid is dealing with millions of dollars. I understand him wanting his contract to be explicit, and not have the Bears say, "The contract says X, but we don't really enforce it". That's nonsense. That's my understanding of the situation, as it stands. Obviously, that's relying on reporting.

I don't fault him at all for seeking protecting against on field fines or suspensions resulting from the helmet rule. That's smart, in my opinion.

If he wants protection of any kind from off field stupid shit he may do....fuck him.

Yeah, this is where I'm unclear / uninformed. From what I've heard, the Bears are reluctant to add specific language because it opens the door for them to have to do it on future contracts. If that's the case, I don't fault Smith. If they've caved on specific language regarding on-field performance, but he's holding out for off-field issues, then I do fault Smith. I guess we'll see how it all works out. This isn't a great look, right now, for a guy who you presume would play a distinct leadership role on the team and franchise over the course of his career.

  11. This.

    This again.

    And AGAIN.

It’s easy to avoid off field shit. Don’t beat your wife, don’t shoot yourself in the leg, don’t be involved in a murder case because you hang around with thugs.

That’s what the article that 312 posted addresses. Apparently, he wants immunity from off the field crap too. Which is total bullshit.

I was all for him getting the helmet rule nonsense removed from the contract, but no go on the off the field stuff.

You don’t get to act like an asshole AND keep the money. THAT would be selfish.

You can’t have off-field immunity. If he’s going up against league/team rules, then he has every right to protect himself. If it’s all (immunity/offset) rolled into ONE big burrito, then the team needs to step up and settle their part. That then puts the onus on Smith to meet them halfway. As long as offset language is an issue, the player is without blame, in my opinion.

I read another article that stated the "behavioral" clause applies to on field/after the whistle activity. Such as late hits, fighting, bumping officials etc etc that results in fines and/or suspension. Off field issues don't apply apparently. I think that article I posted might be a bit misleading and was probably based at least somewhat on opinion.

So apparently Smith wants immunity for any on the field shenanigans he might commit.

He needs to shut the fuck up and get on the field.

He wants the Bears to pay for any mistakes he makes. That's not how it works kid. Someone needs to remind him that he's the one in control of what he does both between the lines and off the field.

He shouldn't have the team paying for any mistakes he makes even if the language of the rules is messed up.

If he can't play by the rules he will end up bagging groceries or playing for the Bengals.

No worries here, I have so much confidence in him,
Smith will probably get injured in the second game and be out for the year, and by him I mean Pace.

I blame the agent more than anything but Smith did hire the agency and obviously approves of it. Unless "his camp" is running things.

You blame an agent or an attorney for doing their job... looking out for their client? I blame the organization IF offset language is at least ONE of the issues.
