The Bears are signing Zach Miller to a one year deal, despite his career being over. He’ll get paid, plus I assume this means his NFL insurance keeps paying for his recovery? (Not sure how injury/insurance works for players when they’re out of the league) http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...o-bears-resigning-zach-miller-to-oneyear-deal As said in the article, a classy move by the Bears, reminiscent of what they also did for Johnny Knox.
The team may be run like a joke in a lot of ways but when it comes to stuff like this the Bears are a real classy organization. Still, gotta admit, its a little surprising in a way. Miller's been in the league quite a long time, its not like he hasn't had the chance to make money. He must've earned around $10mil over the years just in salary. An extra 500k shouldn't be the make or break for Miller(pun intended). I mean the dude is 33 years old, its not like this injury robbed him of an entire career. Knox was still on his rookie deal when he broke his back and as a 5th round pick he really hadn't made a lot of money. That was a very important gesture for him in terms of giving some extra financial security. Makes no difference to me, Miller was a totally stand up guy(again, intended) so sure pay him, better than it lining the McFuckskey's pockets. Just saying.
Just spitballing here, but does this affect an injury settlement or is that still possible? Why it seems like a kind gesture and everything, I'm somewhat of a skeptic when it comes big business and how and why they spend their money. It seems like an injury settlement would be sunstantially more than the $500,000. spent when he doesn't make the team, and since he signed that contract would that void his claim to it?
Yeah, good question. Was it a “classy” move or a business move? However, I assume Miller is not a dummy, nor is his agent. So if it didn’t make sense to sign the contract, he would not sign it. All signs point to this being a class move by the Bears brass.
Miller was out of contract so there wouldn’t be an injury settlement. The Bears could have walked away without paying him another dime. With his season already over by placing him on the reserve PUP list it’s clear the move was made to allow Miller to be part of the team if only in a mentor/cheerleading role while he attempts his comeback with the full support of the teams medical staff.
Kind of thing that people forget but was cool for the McKaskeys to do. I was hoping he would have a chance to come back and play but I guess theres none.
I was at that game. I was sitting on the opposite side, at about the 20, but it looked like a clear touchdown. It was also obvious, even in real time, that he had a pretty wicked injury even from 80 yards away from my viewpoint. They must have showed the replay 20 times on the big Superdome board. I initially was disgusted, and said to my buddies “this is awful! Why do they keep showing his leg bending?!! Wtf!!” Then it hit me - they are actually looking at the catch. I tried my best to look at it objectively as I could, my synapses clogged with roux and IPA’s... but no way is it not a catch. Sure enough... fucked again.
