Greatest you have seen

even more of a head scratcher than having Paul Coffey in the greatest you've ever seen NFL thread is calling an adult a name directly followed up with admitting that you're 43 years old.

I don't have a problem with naming of a hockey guy in an nfl thread hey its about best you seen we could open it up to all sports just simply because it will get more traffic here than on each individual sports related board but yeah leave the name calling in the parking lot.

 

I got to watch Nolan Ryan pitch like three times in person. I saw Pete Rose’ 44 game hitting streak end in person. I saw Fernando Valesuala pitch a 2 Hitter and he hit a home run to boot. I got to watch Bill Russell play in person when I was a little kid.

 

You need to take it easy, Bear-man.

 

Watch out Matty... I’ve heard those internet kilobyte-packed punches can really hurt.

BTW, Paul Coffey’s defensive game was brutal.

 

I am late to the game here but I would be remiss not to post about the greatest edge rusher I had the pleasure of watching work. Lawrence "I didn't know she was 16" Taylor. My family and the Giants go way back -- season tickets in the family for 3 generations and over 50 years at this point. My first Giants game was a pre-season game in the 86 Championship season. I got to see Taylor in his prime as a kid -- hell one year I went to Giants training camp and ran in front of his car to get his autograph. I live in DC these days and have a little shrine to the Giants that includes his rookie card in my office.

I have seen quite a few great ones in person over the years. I got to watch Strahan's entire career largely in person. I was at the game where Farve took a dive to get Strahan the sack record. I saw Reggie White on the back end of his career, I saw the Dallas Triplets more than I like to remember, I saw Derrick Thomas etc...

Randy Moss was the most dominate WR I can remember watching. Other guys had great games but Moss was always electric in his prime. Sanders was the best RB I ever saw. Maybe it was just because I was still young but he was unlike anything else I had ever seen. I still think of him as magic more than man. Faulk could do truly special things but damn was Sanders something else.

The funny part is I saw all these guys play and you were always worried about what they would do but I don't actually remember much of any of them when the Giant played them. Great moments from the Giants sure but not great moments from the other teams. I can remember the feeling in the stadium when Eli got his first come from behind win at home, or the way it felt after the 2000 NFC Championship game against the Vikings or the final game of the 08 season against the Panthers for home field advantage. I also remember the way it felt when the Giants blew it big time, but it's not the individual players or plays on the field that stuck with me all this time but rather the feeling in the stadium. When the best players on the other team made magic happen -- those were usually bad days in the stadium. I much more vividly remember plays from games I wasn't at than ones I was.

Anyway here is my list:

QB: Montana -- F you Brady. You are 100% in the conversation for the best but so is Montana and I take him over you 100% of the times if I am given the option. Montana made things happen with more than one franchise and with different coaches. No scandal, no cheating, no 18-1 Superbowl losses.
WR: Moss
RB: Barry Sanders
Pass Rusher: LT
Interior D-Line: John Randle
DB: Deion Sanders
KR: Dante Hall
TE: Gonzo (though best to consistently punch my Giants in the face is clearly Whitten)

 

I always wished that one of Coffey's teammates would bring him over to his goaltender and introduce them.

I like Deion Sanders as a return man more than a DB back. His tackling skills were suspect. haha.

 

I never understood with his offensive prowess and skating ability, why didn't he just play wing ?
