Oh man, I really made a gaffe on that 20 minute estimate. Just looking through google image real quick and there are a lot of different ones I forgot about. This is going to take daaaaays, lol.
And the Rams helmet I like is not the one they usually wear....I like the royal blue/yellow combo. Jack Youngblood's Rams.
I didn't prove anything other than the Steelers don't have an original thought in their arsenal. Copying a college team's uniforms? Really?
I liked the changes the Browns made to the helmet (wider stripe, brown facemask, bolder orange) and the pants, but I'm not crazy about the orange numbers. I thought they looked much better with white numbers on the brown jersey, and brown numbers on the white....Hopefully the changes they are talking about are more related to the jersey. They got the helmet perfect.
Well, good news Gid, Your eye sight is bound to go bad sooner than later and you won't have to "not understand" good vs bad "looking" much longer...
Orange and red Bucs helmets. Good stuff. I agree, I had never thought about it before, and now it's the best way to spend my time at work.
Speaking of helmets . . . The Browns announced today (?) that all players will need to make the final 53 man roster in order to have the traditional brown and white stripes applied to their helmets. That would mean that a plain, stripeless orange helmet will be used for all pre-season games. Looks like these guys will have to "earn their stripes".
In isolation, this doesn't mean much. But as a tone-setter for the team and locker room... I like it. Fingers crossed.
I hate to correct you Lyman, but back in the late 70s or early 80s Hayden Frye changed Iowa's uniforms to copy the Steelers. He was quoted back then hoping the change would reflect the success of the dynasty of the 70s. The Steelers didn't copy Iowa. Not sure about favorite helmet, but I think my #32 hands down is the Jags.
I actually like the minimalist look of the Browns’ helmet. It saves it from looking like Green Bay or Chicago (boring as fuck). The Jags, at least, tried something unique and their helmets are sort of interesting, especially with the matte black detail. TB made a good call going with pewter instead of the old creamsicle look. I like the old Broncos helmet better than their new one. Before the Bengals changed their hats, I was thinking stripes would be a good look. It has withstood the test of time. The Rams look is flat compared to the 80s unis. The Chargers have a solid look whether the base is blue or white. Lucky them. The Steelers logo, on one side only, gives them the uniqueness they deserve. Their logo is entrenched with history and industry and provides some detail that is unmatched in the league. Even Saul Bass couldn’t have done better.
