I can't disagree with this take. A smarter, faster, better armed Cody Kessler...If Kessler had all of Tyrod's tools though, he wouldn't have been jettisoned.
We'll see, but frankly just what the Dr ordered for a team with one win in 32 attempts. I am hoping he does well, and buys our shiney new rookie 6 games or more to learn. I'm all for Mayfield taking the reins by season's end, but if we're in playoff contention........ What if at 10 games in we're at 6 and 4? Say we're within a game of the division lead? I would really find it hard to take Tyrod out for a Mayfield test flight, with a possible divisional lead at stake. He's on a 1 year deal, and we know Mayfield will take the team next season, so........... what do we do? It's a trap, in a way, like it is every year when you are within reach, but not quite there. It almost never works out, and unless we actually had the lead, I'd want to see Mayfield. Other points of view............?
If by some miracle Tyrod & the Browns come out 6 and 4, with a Bye, then 2 Cinci games, TX, CAR, DEN, and finally BAL, left to deal with. I could see us taking both Cinci games, and Baltimore may or may not be that tough, but TX, CAR, DEN? Could we get a win in there, finishing 10 and 4? And if that's the case, do we thank Tyrod at the 10 game mark and make the change? We'd need to split with Pitt, beat the Jets, Oak, and take three from the other 6 (BAL, LAC, TBAY, KC, NO, ATL) Tall order, but it's May and a man can dream, can't he. Question still stands though, should the Tyrod lead Browns somehow get 6 of 10, what happens the rest of the way?
U do know we heard the same thing last year...we should beat Cincy twice and they dominated more than any other division team...if u really want your questioned answer if their 6-4 Taylor will be the QB
Even the most optimistic of Browns fans has to admit that, right now, that schedule looks daunting. However, looking at what the Browns have in place, I don't think a winning season is that bizarre of a notion. If you think it is, I might suggest taking a look at the 2017 Buffalo Bills depth chart, and remember that Tyrod Taylor took that team to the playoffs last season...I know it won't be just stopper scoffing at the idea of a successful Cleveland Browns team, and that's to be expected. After (1-31), the naysayers are sure to be in high numbers. That's okay, the team will use that to fuel the fire. Taking a close look at the roster reconstruction gives me hope. IMO this team has the potential to win...The Browns deservedly are prisoners of their own past, so it will still be an unthinkable notion for most human beings, but I honestly don't think any prediction from 6-10 to 10-6, is that crazy, though it's still too early for that talk....I won't make mine official till I see how they look in the preseason, but I think it's safe to assume I'm expecting a quantum leap for this franchise... The depth chart looks pretty good right now, with the obvious question being the hole left by Joe Thomas, and the noted concerns at LB...We've still got a ways to go before being considered legit contenders, but at least we have the QB situation in much better shape. Thank the lord.... It has always been my contention that this was never a (1-31) roster to begin with. We got to that because of a ridiculous plan at QB, and now all we can do is hope that the hell we went through will be paid off...Not saying we would have been great, but this team should have won at least 5 or 6 games last season. Ya can't win in the NFL when the starting QB plays like Kizer. Ya just can't. And won't. And Kessler had no prayer the year before either. Like I said, it was a ridiculous plan... No GM had ever tried anything like that, and it will never be attempted again....What it did do, was bring us Baker Mayfield. If he's as good as I think he is, all the shit Browns fans had to go through will be well worth it. It is time to start winning....
^^^^ IMHO WR is still the weakest position on the roster. Gordon and Calloway are a dixie cup away from suspension/expulsion. Coleman can't stay healthy. Landry is about the only WR I feel that I remotely have any confidence in at this point. On paper this group looks somewhat solid, but when it comes down to it can we trust them to stay on the field for an entire season. Side note... I find it humorous that both Flacco and Worthlessbuger are upset that their respective teams appear to have drafted the teams heir apparent.
Maybe Lym was right... https://thebiglead.com/2018/05/06/b...ld-jets-browns/amp/?__twitter_impression=true
Honestly, I thought all the petty bickering...Of which I shamelessly partook and was a big contributor of...would end after the draft was over. But, IT'S OVER, I'm not sure how much more I can come on these boards and go over it, then go over it again... There have been SEVERAL REPORTS saying the opposite, that the many teams had Mayfield at the top of their QB board...do those just disappear because Albert Breer reported something different? Mayfield is a Brown, embrace it... At least until you all get your wish and he fails... I am so sick of losing, but I might be more sick of the negativity about the Browns no matter what they try to do to improve the team. This has been a great off season, or so it seems. I can't for a moment let the negative crap creep into my mind that it will just be another in a long line of failure...I don't know how people live their lives like that.
I dont think any possibility is off the board in terms of when Taylor could see the bench. He was inexplicably benched for Nathan Peterman, YES, THE Nathan Peterman, who did his damnedest to set the INT record for a game. You even saw Alex Smith benched and he had 4k yds, 26 TD, 5 INT, 67% completion, plus a rushing TD. So given those two scenarios happening last year, with both teams in the thick of it and just enamored with their shiny new toy backup, short of going undefeated, I do not see a scenario where moving on from Taylor will be a surprise. Not a knock on Tyrod by any means, it's just what the league has become. On a separate note, in regards to the story on the Browns being "the only team with Mayfield on top their board" ( ), I just thought it was funny to see reports that on consecutive days opening the Jets camp that Darnold fumbled the first snap under center. Here's a live look in on it :
Chin up, Irish. How many years have Browns fans been dealing with this from every source imaginable. It's what makes us Cleveland fans........fans from the "Mistake on the Lake" whose teams just can't win anything. Except for the fact that's not true anymore with the Cavs getting a trophy and the Tribe having some prosperous seasons. And yes, then we have the Browns.......Hell, we've been laughed at from everything from sports to a river catching fire twice. So, just as always, it's not going to stop until this team starts winning and earning their respect back. The Move aside, it's been really 30 years or so since this team has done anything anyway (aside from the 2002 season). Honestly, nothing has changed in the way the media and NFL fans perceive this team and town. Just brush it off as best you can and keep being a fan. Has any of this ever stopped you from being a fan before? Nope. It makes it hard for sure but again, that's what makes us Cleveland fans...we suffer and then suffer some more. Just keep believing and shaking off the negative stuff and someday (hopefully soon) it'll happen. In the words of Coach Lou Brown in Major League: "All right people, we got 10 minutes 'till game time, let's all gather 'round. I'm not much for giving inspirational addresses, but I'd just like to point out that every newspaper in the country has picked us to finish last. The local press seems to think that we'd save everyone the time and trouble if we just went out and shot ourselves. Me, I'm for wasting sportswriters' time. So I figured we ought to hang around for a while and see if we can give 'em all a nice big shitburger to eat!"
Agreed...But I expect it from the haters. What sucks is when it's our own fans stirring the negativity. I had to leave the bar the other day because this "supposed" Browns fan was just rambling on and on about how the Browns blew another draft. "We took "Johnny Jr" with the first pick and it's only a matter of time before it all implodes." Smh. I wanted to just drop him... All I can say is, this shit all goes away when we start winning. I'm with Irish. I know I take it too seriously, but I'm just a weary Browns die-hard, that's grown a bit thin skinned at this point. I can't help it. It just flat out pisses me off. The problem is, all the other teams' fans just can't wait to pile on. Aaand ,that's about the time I have to leave before I say something that gets me punched...That's just how it is, being a Browns fan these days. Anybody that wears a Browns shirt or hat should know what I'm talkin about. It's definitely a conversation starter. Unfortunately, the conversation almost always starts with somebody insulting the Browns. Either that or they are just in complete disbelief that somebody is willing to wear the gear in public...
I was just suggesting Lym could have been right about getting Mayfield and Saquon. Wasn't suggesting Baker was the wrong pick.
I had the pleasure of actually meeting Duff and his family yesterday while he and his family were in my neck of the woods for a soccer tournament. Ask him what I was wearing.
But here's the deal..IF they had taken Saquon Barkley, the Giants and/or Jets could still have taken Mayfield, this is a moot argument. They took Mayfield, he is a Brown and I am ecstatic that he is. Yes, I loved Barkley, but this argument that if they had taken Barkley is silly at this point because it is over and we obviously have NO idea if Mayfield would have been available at #4. If they had taken Barkley, then we might be in a situation where it goes 1. Barkley, 2. Mayfield, 3. Darnold...THEN we might be stuck with Barkley and one of the Josh's...THAT would be a nightmare in my book. I would rather have Mayfield and Chubb, than Barkley and either Josh....that doesn't even take into account, no Denzel Ward. What I am saying is, there is no way to know...What we do know is that Mayfield is a Brown. I don't understand the negative BS. IF that scenario HAD played out, I'm fairly certain I would have spent enough extra time on film talking myself into "why" whomever was taken at #4 WAS the best choice, rather than being disappointed for weeks about missing out on Mayfield. Hell, I was on the Chubb wagon at #4 and all I can do now is see how much more Ward could lift this defense overall...I guess I'll never understand the persistent, "if only" crowd.
My whole point of that post was: I don't give a fuck what other people think of me because I choose to be a Browns fan. And, until their opinions adversely affect my family or bank account, I never will.
Exactly. I was telling Lyman, when I met him, I wore more my Indians hat all the time when I had moved as a kid to California. And everybody teased me and asked me why? Because it was my team and I wore it with pride through all those miserable years............enough said.
