http://www.profootballweekly.com/20...rall-pick-we-shouldve-seen-it-coming/an7d08d/ I originally thought the Browns would take Mayfield, but then as we got further along I started believing the media hype on Darnold. The day Haslam was seen chatting it up with Darnold's parents at his Pro-day, pretty much had me convinced that the Browns were gonna play it safe and take Darnold...Man I'm glad they didn't! I have wanted Mayfield to be Cleveland's QB ever since he rolled into Columbus and gave Ohio State some payback....It's really comforting to know that Dorsey, Wolfe, McCloughan and Highsmith all independently reached the same conclusion; Baker Mayfield was the best QB in this draft. Dorsey sure had everyone guessing though. There's not a doubt in my mind that we got the right guy. I feel better about Baker every time I hear him respond. This REALLY is exciting for Cleveland Browns football...My favorite answer Mayfield gave the Browns had to be when they asked him; what is a QB's job? And his response was; "To elevate the play of all that surround him."....That's beautiful. Baker gets it.
That's a really good point that I think is being overlooked a little bit. All the top guys agreed, independently of each other. When they all went on their National QB tour, that went in to Norman and met with Baker and he blew their socks off, and Dorsey did not say a word to anyone to keep all opinions honest.
Per NBC Sports Browns sign 13 undrafted free agents, including Evan Berry Posted by Josh Alper on May 4, 2018, 2:35 PM EDT Getty Images The Browns announced the signing of 13 undrafted free agents on Friday and the group includes the younger brother of Chiefs safety Eric Berry. Evan Berry also went to Tennessee as a safety and finished his time in Knoxville with best kickoff return average in school history. He returned four kickoffs for touchdowns, which is tied for a school record, and will be trying to transition to wide receiver with Cleveland. His twin brother Elliott was a linebacker for the Vols and is trying out for the Chiefs at their rookie minicamp. The Browns also signed Northern Iowa defensive back Elijah Campbell, San Jose State punter Michael Carrizosa, Illinois offensive lineman Christian Dilauro, Washington State defensive lineman Daniel Ekuale, BYU defensive back Micah Hanneman, West Georgia OL Desmond Harrison, Tulane running back Dontrell Hilliard, Oregon State offensive lineman Fred Lauina, Grambling State defensive back Montrel Meander, Fresno State wide receiver Da’Mari Scott, Georgia defensive lineman Trenton Thompson, and Texas Tech wide receiver Derrick Willies. Kosar: "So... you're the guy who's going to make Cleveland fans forget about me, huh?" Mayfield: "No sir." Kosar: "Alright." Mayfield: "I'm the guy who's going to make NFL fans forget about Tom Brady." #GOAT
FTR: Denzel Ward represents the 5th Buckeye CB to be drafted in the first round in the last 5 years....Urban's got it goin on!
**Click Bait** There have also been "multiple reports" that Mayfield was at the top of the majority of teams QB list... No one will ever know what the truth is...but, let's keep changing the narrative during the abyss that is the weeks between the draft and training camp. I don't really care what any news agency says at this point. Baker Mayfield is a Brown and I for one am still riding my high. Didn't think it would happen, but wanted it to for MONTHS. I was ridiculed, argued with, stuck by my guns and am happy to have my guy in uniform. How about we all embrace it at this point and hope he IS the guy to lead this team into the future? It isn't changing, so can we all just get onboard now? Some of you, it seems like you are rooting against him succeeding..Would you all rather be "right" than see the Browns succeed?
I never hope against any player on the team but that doesn't mean I have to just roll over like a good dawg and agree with everything they do. They might have took your guy but that doesn't mean we all need to agree with you. I wanted Rosen or Allen and that doesn't make me any less of a Browns fan then anyone else here. Our new manager inherited a fortune and I'm not happy with what he did. I'm just tired of listening to family that all gave up on this team years ago bashing my ears in every time our front office screws the pooch. Mayfield is the guy so I'll cheer for him and I won't come back with any I told you sos if Rosen or Allen end up better because I'm not going to mention it ever again. Go Browns.
It isn't about agreeing with me...It's hoping that this time, they got it right. I haven't been on these boards gloating that they took the guy I wanted all along. And these posts aren't about that AT ALL. I am saying, get behind the team that has been put together and don't feed into the negativity that automatically comes from the national media and other fanbases. That's all...
They aren't on here, but I am on a number of message boards on Facebook as well and there is a large contingency of Sooner fans that are now Browns fans, because they all believe in Mayfield so much that they followed him to the NFL. You want to discuss the Pied Piper theory, I've never seen anything like it from any other player the Browns have ever taken. I'm just excited is all... reading negative shit constantly from the national media, to these boards is a bummer. It's the biggest reason I have tried to stay away as much as possible lately.
Not even a full squad practice, and the draft was already a bust. It's great to be a pessimistic fan. If the team doesn't draft a QB with the top pick, they wasted the pick and you can complain. If the team does draft a qb and it's not your QB, then you can complain. I'm happy because I was on the Baker Bandwagon months ago along with Irish and Sam. Ultimately, I am happy after reading all the reports that amongst all the HIGHLY RESPECTED FOOTBALL GUYS on the personnel side, that they all had an unbiased opinion that this guy was their top guy, and they went along with it. Dorsey/Wolfe/Highsmith/Mcloughlin basically put their careers on Baker Mayfields shoulders. They did what we ultimately wanted, they got THEIR qb. If this guessing game that they call the draft were that easy we would all be millionaires and each of us would be running our own team. Sadly, we are not and are relegated to bitching out decisions on message boards.
I kinda like quite a bunch of the Browns picks. They believed they got the best QB and CB in the draft. Those are probably the 2 most coveted positions.
I liked the Raiders picks of PJ Hall and Mo Hurst. I thought it was a reach for Hall, but ideally you could basically have swapped their slots and it would have made more sense, so samesies on that one. Gruden isn't messing around, he wants a mauling DL, and if Hall can fill his potential, with Mack behind those two guys, look-the-hell-out.
On the Browns Web site it lists Denzel Ward as wearing #1 this season...I'm assuming he just hasn't picked a number yet, because I don't think CB's can wear that number. Somebody needs to tell DW to pick a freakin number. Does he realize ALL the other top picks already have their jerseys on the shelves? Maybe somebody already has the number he wants and he's trying to buy it from them...Who knows? ...I'm hoping I'm right about that, and he is negotiating for Duke Johnson's number. I will break my stance on buying a jersey if Ward gets the #29....Always had great luck with that number. Still have my Dixon jersey, and I used to have an Eric Turner as well. Can't do much better than that.
