2018 NFL Draft | Quarterbacks

NFL Media's Lance Zierlein compares Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield to former NFL QB Doug Flutie.

Like Flutie, Mayfield also won a Heisman Trophy. Unlike Flutie, Mayfield is going to go in the first-round. Zierlein loves his competitiveness and "fiery" demeanor, and calls the former Sooner signal-caller "accurate on all three levels." He does note his concerns about his size -- a la Flutie -- and he'll need to eliminate his back foot throws. "Mayfield's ability to process, extend plays and throw with accuracy give him a good shot," writes Zierlein. "He'll be somewhat scheme-dependent so whoever takes him will need to be willing to build their offense around his strengths."

    Hmmmmmmm

Day to day...hour to hour...It's winter, no it's summer, no it's winter, no it's spring, etc...

first mow of the year...today's high was a tropical 51 degrees. But at least the sun was out.

I always liked that first "mow" of the year. It felt like Spring was officially here.

By June, it felt like another job, but that first one was cool.

We had a riding mower, so of course my son couldn't wait to be "allowed" to mow the grass, but he had the same feeling as I did after a month: "do I have to....".

Irish, do you think Haley / Hue can / will design an offense that would suit Mayfield? I'm not convinced they want to or are capable of doing that.

I'm starting to feel like, as much as I like Mayfield, and truly hope he does well, I'm not convinced he's ahead of Darnold enough to prefer him. Especially since "the plan" is to sit the rookie a year to "as you say" marinate. I feel like Mayfield is A: more ready to start, and B: won't sit for any length of time without it becoming either a team issue or it effecting his attitude. For better or worse, I think Darnold won't be as quick to push for playing time, if it rocks the boat.

You could easily interpret that as him not being as confident, or as competitive, and that may be true, but I think it is true, and wonder if that is going to play into the decision, for Dorsey and Hue.

Let me clarify. I think Darnold is more likely to be the "good soldier" than Mayfield, and bide his time.

Since you asked me specifically. Yes...

Only because I think Mayfield is capable of running Haley's current offense and it would just be tweaked by running more play action and some designed roll outs to accentuate the scheme, rather than building a totally different scheme from what you are used to seeing from Haley.

I think you have more latitude with Mayfield than all the others except Allen... difference is, I don't have one iota of confidence that Allen can contribute to an efficient offense, no matter what they ask of him.

Rosen, I believe you need to run an offense full of precision routes and you will need a minimum of 3 precision routes runners in order to implement it. I don't see ANY improvisation ability from Rosen.

Darnold can run the current Haley offense, but I don't think his abilities are near the other three quite frankly. I do think he will be able to improvise more if the receivers are lower part at any point in his career and that is a huge mark in the positive column for him as this league is full of inadaquate players that are forced to play in any given season.

But to answer your question, yes u u thk Haley is more than willing and capable of gearing an offense to Mayfield's strengths...mostly because he has shown very few real glaring weaknesses.

  9. Honestly does it really matter? Mayfield isn’t the pick and just bout everyone knows it

The case for Josh Allen (and specifically against that guy from USC)

I see ALL THE DAMN TIME the talking heads, like Kiper and Mayock, talking about how Josh Allen has a high ceiling, but how that guy from USC is the safest pick in the QB class.

"NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock had this to say about the Browns and the first pick: "My gut tells me that, if you're choosing between the two, (Josh) Allen might have the higher ceiling, but you've swung and missed so many times in Cleveland at quarterback, can you afford another one with your first pick? Your first pick has got to set the tone, and I think at the end of the day it will be Sam Darnold, and he's got a little Brett Favre in him, which I think John (Dorsey) likes. John likes a little swagger."

My feelings? F**k safe. Seriously. Why? We have safe on the roster already in Taylor. Is the safety representative from USC really that big of an upgrade from TT? I don't know...

Swing for the damn fences. Hell, seriously, I would absolutely rather draft a QB 1st and 4th than draft like coward and take the safe pick. If you're going to fail, do it aggressively. Maybe that's my occupational dogma shinning through, but I would rather fail fast than fail because I hesitated.

Worst case, you realize that Allen needs to train for another season, so you extend Taylor.

^^^ All that said, I prefer Baker Mayfield, Josh Rosen, Josh Allen. In that order. Other than those guys? Chubb #1 and BPA #4. Grab White later on.

  13. Yes I know

  14. Looks like you won’t be happy on Thur...Darnold will be the pick and has been the pick for awhile now

    I don't do twitter SAS...
Do you post all of the quotes? Or do you just pick ones that go along with what your opinion happens to be?

It appears everyone on twitter thinks like you do.
