The problem is, I really don't "understand" the Saints needs. Being a true fan, I feel like I have my finger on the pulse of the Browns and understand the team and what they really need to improve as a team...I just don't get that by looking up the Saints team needs and drafting accordingly. That's why I always hope for true fans to draft for their teams. Of course at this point in the game, I look at my draft board and take BPA. You can't fill in needs at this point because there could be 40 players of higher value before a name I have listed as a team need.
Browns fans know drafting. It's our thing... and we've had things under control in the Bayou for a while. lol! ..Not sure why we always get the Saints, but here's a "not too shabby" Saints draft from last year done by some crazy Browns fan: NEW ORLEANS SAINTS 1.11 JAMAL ADAMS S LSU 2.10 GAREON CONLEY CB OHIO STATE 3.12 JOE MIXON RB OKLAHOMA 4.11 ARDARIUS STEWART WR ALABAMA 6.12 JOSH DOBBS QB TENNESSEE 7.11 TARIK COHEN RB/KR N.C. A&T ^^^I believe every pick was selected higher on draft day....It'd be nice to have some Saints fans here, but we take care of the Saints in the mocks. The Dawg Pound has New Orleans in capable hands.
He's an unknown quantity, largely because of how the Delaware defense utilized him. He constantly faced double teams, and at times he would be up against all 3 interior offensive linemen, so until he gets an opportunity to play in a four man front next to a legitimate rusher he won't get the chance to work on that part of his craft. He's got the movement skills and dynamic athleticism (former basketball standout) that not a lot of big guys possess. He gets his arms extended and his hands in play quickly and he sets his base up with some urgency so some of the fundamentals are already there. I think getting him in an environment similar to what I drafted him in will help to get the best out him quickly, considering teams will have to account for his teammates first and Bilal last. I wanted to add a couple large players with good horizontal movement and the ability to cover ground to the middle of the San Fran defense and I believe I got that with Settle and Nichols.
I do like to write down my drafts in a notebook, so I can go back easily and look at the damage, both after the draft, and even a few years down the road. I mean, that's the true test if your draft is any good, right?...These things are a hobby that I truly love. I always used to write down my first round predictions to see how many I could get correctly, even when I was a kid, but the mocks we do here take my draft obsession to another level...Very fun stuff. I really appreciate being a part of it. I should finish up today and post my Browns draft at some point...Just wanted to say thank you.
To the guys who have been doing this longer than me.... is this class particularly deep in guys who can contribute or am I just more aware of the talent pool since I have been actively looking into more players. I had to make way too many selections from my phone this year but I still seeing names I recognize and saying to myself how is that guy still available?
I always feel like there are late round gems, but yeah, I know what you mean. My last pick at 6(11) I have projected as a 3rd to mid 4th rd guy.... As far as overall quality of this draft, I've certainly seen worse...I'd consider it a pretty good talent pool.
It's interesting. After doing this for two years it's a lot easier to see how guys can slide for reasons completely unrelated to their talent level. I used to just sit and wonder WTF how did that guy last so long, but now I see it happening in real time and it's a lot easier to understand.
Yeah. I was just saying, it wasn't really my intention to go back to back DT's , but I will do things like that a lot if I perceive the value as being too great to pass up...Whether it's a position I need or not, if I have a guy ranked in my top 100, and we are closing in on pick 200 and he's still available, he's going to be strongly considered regardless...I'm not looking to go out of my way to select a player I have ranked much lower, simply because of need. It's gotta be real close, or I'm taking the better player...Kinda rambled. lol! Hopefully there's some logic in there...
FYI: I've been tracking the results of this mock along with the results of the GMO and RHSC mocks and plan to do an analysis of all three using the actual NFL draft as a baseline. (I recognize that the GMO mock may be a bit different as it followed a free agent process that didn't really occur IRL). Film at eleven.
