A couple things that I see in Rudolph that translate to having a high ceiling at the next level - His pocket presence is the best in this class IMO. He finds ways to remain in the pocket with his eyes downfield, sliding his feet to keep separation from blockers and creating bad angles for rushers. That's something that a quarterback typically has or doesn't. I can't remember one that developed it as a pro without having it in college. The idea that making subtle steps within the frame of the pocket to induce rushers into stepping into blockers is an extremely high level of awareness/pocket presence. He is the most consistent quarterback in this class in making the correct pre-snap read and the continued follow through. It's one of the reasons that you don't see more progressions from him. The offense is designed around getting single coverage and exploiting it. He correctly identifies which receiver will have the best passing window, then he adjusts his delivery to match the receiver. It's one of the reasons that PFF's accuracy stats are really accuracy opinions, because you cannot know exactly what a quarterback is attempting with each throw. Rudolph uses Ateman's wingspan and hands to his own advantage with his ball placement near the red-zone, on the out route and on the hitch or curl, the same as he uses Washington's slash in the post and slant by putting a developed touch to arc that has James running into his passes more often than not.
I'm not sure, but I think I look forward to the "Draft Challenge" as much as anything. lol! When I'm looking through the draft results of any draft, I'm always like "ooh that's a good pick for the best riser (or faller) of this round" lol!!! I can't help it...
Rosen has the most natural throwing motion and you can tell that his background in tennis helped to develop how consistent his mechanics are. He has really solid accuracy with the right kind of zip to get the ball into places quickly once he makes his decision. He gets a lot of praise for his footwork, which during his throwing motion and moving out of his pocket is well deserved. But there is the occasion that he tries to set up again after moving and, at the next level when pockets collapse suddenly, I can see him getting his bell rung. Typically makes good decisions but his feet can get happy when the pressure is applied and I'm curious as to how he will react to difficult circumstances and days where he gets knocked around.
Yeah Rosen’s chances will go up exponentially if he ends up on a team that gives him a solid pocket. It’s one of the things that has me ranking Darnold at 1...the way he reacts to pressure. He has the Rodgers like ability to run for first downs when an outside rush leaves an opening. He also has the feet and presence of mind to extend the play towards the sideline when inside pressure comes and he does a great job keeping eyes downfield to see his guys coming open. The main thing his position coach will have to do is teach him to keep his second hand closer and the ball tighter to his core until he’s ready to sling it. Ball security (specifically fumbles) is the only real knock I see. His motion isn’t perfect, but he’s only really started 1.5 years. I hope he goes to a team I want to cheer for
So LAOJoe, a trade of massive significance 7.36 for 7.38 for future considerations doesn't count in you draft?
Darnold is my number 2 for a lot of the reasons you posted. When he is on, he can drop some just unreal passes into some crazy windows. I think consistency is going to be something that he struggles with early on, but he's so damn young with limited starters experience that you just hope he gets some solid coaching to get him going in the right direction. He can be streaky from game to game, quarter to quarter and series to series. I'd really like to see him in a situation where the ground game and defense are solid and he can refine his play-action. I'm with you on the fumbles, and I won't kill him for his throwing motion either, but the idea that the ball goes completely under his hand means he should probably find ways to deliver the ball as quickly as possible to avoid blindside rushers reaching out and slapping it away. Can he develop a quicker motion or one that better protects the ball? There's really no way to project that so it has to be considered a definite negative going into the draft.
what? C'mon man..That's probably going to be the next Browns QB...lol! Funny? Like haha funny? How is he funny? You mean, funny like a clown? no seriously... I need an explanation...
Touché but I at least looked at him. I just keep thinking major bust Potential with Darnold. I see his positives but I don't know if he can get it all together as a pro. Allen I think doesn't need much of an explanation. He needs to sit for at least a year, not 12 weeks, a year. He has the traits but he needs to improve a ton.
Yes, but specifically Allen and Rosen, because pressure leads to breakdowns in decision making and technique for them. Lamar or Darnold almost seem better under pressure at times
idk...Call me crazy. But there's a little voice in my head that is telling me Josh Rosen is going to be the best of the bunch when it's all said and done...
