You know January was more recently a tough month for me as I lost my best friend Norbert on the 19th 11 years ago and my wife Susan on the 22nd 3 years ago. It would of been nice to have him to lean on 3 years ago but he wasn't there. I decided this year to turn this shit around. I'm here not so much as to celebrate their deaths but rather their existence and the impact each of them had on my life. My buddy Norb was a funny SOB and that fucker could make watching paint dry exciting perhaps the Bears could of used him in the color booth, but I digress. Norbert and I used to play throughout the night and then at 6:00 am go out for coffee and breakfast. We grew up as kids together and as adults took vacations together. One night that we were to go out drinking together I stopped by his apartment to go out, but he said I have to take the Christmas tree down first, and naturally I said WTF, so he unplugged the tree dragged the tree with lights and everything to the balcony and threw it over the side and said okay let's go. Anyway this is the very first original song we ever recorded together back in the 80's and perhaps you'll understand why we chose a different avenue to make a living. This song we did a couple years later (I really like this version) which is a pure unplugged version and not the one where I put in strings and drums. Which is kind of where I'm at now, and don't get me wrong I'm enjoying my life now, however I'm not going to lie, I do kind of miss my wife making me dance on the porch to gain entrance, or the fact that the only ball busting going on now is my dog with her tennis balls. There are times though when this bitch dog gets so sassy I think Susan somehow has a hand in it.
I also have had a few I lost along the way, I too was in the music scene. Thankfully, I didn't quit my dayjob. I'm listening to live music right now.
That's really cool tuna. This is the perfect way to raise your glass and to toast the memories of your wife and buddy. They both sound like they were down to earth and funny people.
