Aaron Rogers to IR: FFL Finals advice

Discussion in 'NFL General Discussion' started by Tenacious Faulk, Dec 20, 2017.

  1. OK know-it-alls (yeah you know who you are!), thanks for the advice last week! Rogers was the right start and he was 4 points better than Keenum. The other positions panned out too.

Now with Rogers on IR, I have some new dilemmas. Keenum or (ahem) Flacco (on waivers)? Before you laugh, it's not just a homer pick. Flacco is getting hot and facing a Colts' 30th ranked secondary with a 31st ranked run defense. Keenum is facing a 27th ranked secondary with a 25th ranked run D. Keenum has had far better games in the past and is consistently 22+ points and Flacco may have his best day this season.

Beyond that I selected new players off of waivers. My line up now looks like this:

    STARTING:
QB Keenum @ GB (Choice of Flacco or Foles too)
    RB Kenyon Drake @ KC
    RB Alex Collins vs IND
    WR Michael Thomas vs ATL
    WR Devin Funchess vs TB
    TE Delanie Walker vs LAR
FLEX Martavius Bryant @ HOU (hoping he gets AB's targets)
    K Greg Z
    D Ravens vs Colts

    BENCH:
RB Buck Allen vs Colts (as much of a "block move" for my opponent as possible starter)
RB Duke Johnson @ CHI (more of a "block move")
RB Derrick Henry vs LAR (possible keeper next year in Titans move on from Murray)
WR Keelan Cole (best WR on waiver with 77 fpts in last 3 games taking over for Marquise Lee)
WR Robby Anderson vs LAC (can't seem to trust him and Petty yet)

    Open to all suggestions.

I'd consider Cole for either of your WRs. Maybe Funchess. I might do the same.

  3. Funchess is a hard sit'em candidate because 1) he faces a 32nd ranked secondary with Tampa and, 2) He gets far more targets 31 to 22 in last 4 games.

    Now time to "overthink" this:
    1) The confusing factors in this decision is that despite 30% less targets Cole has scored 4.5pts more per game in that time in standard scoring leagues than Funchess.
    2) Also Allen Hurns may(??) return to play but I'm not sure if he'll cut into Cole or Westbrook's targets. My guess is that is could be Westbrook's(??) since Cole is more a homerun hitter and Hurns and Westbrook have much shorter averages/recep in thsoe past 4 weeks. Hurns could still dress and sit since he said he won't be 100% until the off season. M. Lee is likely out until the playoffs.

    Other choices:
    1) For TE: Delanie Walker has been consistent with 5-10 targets/gm and 57 points in last 7 weeks. Cameron Brate is now going to get Delanie Walker's and OJ Howard's looks with them out this week. Walker is the hothand for sure, but Brate is dangerous and going to be relied on a lot more by Winston this week.

    2) For RB: A little concern for Collins who was limping last game and sat most of the second half. Complicating that is that there is talk of activating Terrance West for this week, getting him back in action before the playoff and the Colts are the ideal team for that. Collins doesn't appear to have any lingering injury from Cleveland, but he took West's role and has been the teams leading offensive weapon. Allen's touches look safe imo. My guess is that if he goes get activated he gets some work but maybe limited touches (5-8??) being 9 weeks removed from the game. But again, this is purely speculative.

    What do you think?

Need a new kicker, yours just landed on IR I believe.
I'd probably leave the rest alone, maybe Cole for Bryant. Bryant has been pretty disappointing, but he should see more targets with AB out. Will he catch them though? Juju, Rogers, McDonald and James should all see some targets, plus Bell out of the backfield. Cole had a hell of a game last week, and they're playing the 49ers. This is really a toss up for me, though I would give the slight edge to Bryant...

  5. Good points. What about Funchess? Do you think Cole or even Buck Allen would be better than him if I move them to FLEX?

Funchess is playing in a divisional game that is a must win. His production might go down now that Olsen is getting more into game shape, but he'll still get his touches, especially in the red zone.
If Collins is playing, Buck Allen probably is going to have very limited touches, so I'd leave him out. Really comes down to do you trust the young receiver who has put together a three good games in a row, or Bryant who should see an uptick in targets with AB out. Interesting note, after the TD turned incompletion, Bryant did not get another snap, his spot was filled by Darrius Heyward-Bey. If it were my team, I'd go homer and pick Bryant, but I think both will put up similar numbers.

  8. JS Part Time Starter

Is it STD or PPR? I would possibly consider Johnson if it is PPR. If STD stick with what you have.

No way I would bench Funchess fore Cole even if Hurns sits again. The SF matchup has a feel of a trap game to me for JAX.

  10. Thanks everyone for their input. Looks like I’m rolling with Funchess and Bryant. Obviously, there are concerns with Allison and Schuster taking targets in scoring opportunities from Funches and Bryant, but there’s no accounting for that. I also replaced Zuerline with Gould.

The CBS prediction is that I’m the underdog with a 39% chance of winning. I’ve face similar odds the last 4 weeks and beaten them each time so that’s not much of deterent. On my bench Robby Anderson is the only player predicted to be better than Bryant by a half point. With Petty as his new QB I doubt he puts up that much.

For shits and grins, here is my Opponents team:
    QB Rivers
    RB Howard
    RB Hunt
    WR Wallace
    WR D. Bryant
    TE Rudolph
    FLEX Ingram
    K Gano
    Eagles

Ought to be a close one.
