This guy was such a name a few years ago. What happened to make him fall so far? This would only be his 8th year so it wouldn't shock me to see them express interest. I haven't followed him the last couple of years. Is he that bad?

Hopefully works out better than the last former Browns CB the Steelers had....

This tells me the Steelers are seriously making an effort for "this" year. I think they just pushed their chips all in. Hopefully it pans out. I am optimistic, but uneasy also.

  9. Haden or Cockrell? Not sure there's much to debate here.

Cockrell sux. Period. Haden was really good. Hopefully he still is.

80% of Joe Haden is much better than 100% of Ross Cockrell. Don't underestimate the lack of motivation that comes with playing for a perennial doormat. It's whole lot easier to get out of the training room when you're playing meaningful, primetime football. There are plenty of guys who have left the Browns for better situations and had productive careers. This is all positive for the Steelers. I hear fans constantly complaining that the Steelers have ignored the CB position, well they just signed the best corner in our division for reasonable money, which tells me he wants to win.

Good move by the Steelers. They had cap space and a glaring need. Hayden was part of a dysfunctional franchise his whole career and now has an opportunity to be help put the Steelers over the top.

Jerome Bettis was with the Rams. He had a few good seasons and then.... meh. Here's hoping that going to a contender revitalizes Haden in the same way.

Wexell had a pay article that I can't share out of respect for him but in it it talked about Haden's speed and how badly it suffered last year with the two groin injuries. Apparently he ran step for step with with Heyward-Bey in practice this week and kind of turned some heads on the sideline. Of course it also mentions how Bryant got behind him but that's kind of like getting beat by AB. AB will beat anyone they put in front of him and Bryant runs by everybody.

I wasn't big on signing him so I won't try and champion the move now but it was encouraging to hear that he's 100% healthy. If there is one thing we need it's a guy who can jam receivers and play man. In his prime that was what Joe was championed for doing and while I always considered him over-rated A.J. Green just listed him as one of the 5 toughest CBs he ever faced. He might have a little more knowledge on the subject than me.

EDIT: Oh and gotta admit it would be pretty sweet if he made a few big plays on Sunday against the Browns considering some of their comments after the Steelers signed him.

A few years ago, I thought that Haden was the best CB in the NFL. Period. Hopefully, he can be even close to that for the Steelers.
