You Guys OK with Trubisky Starting Tomorrow?

It seems like there are certain guys arguing against themselves here, unless I'm reading it wrong.

Some say that these reps are meaningless and no more valuable than practice, so they shouldn't risk Trubisky getting injured by playing.

Yet - then they argue that Glennon needs more reps because he hasn't seen the field since 2014.

    Which is it?

I'm for Trubisky playing a half, because all reps are valuable - regardless of who they are against. Especially when you consider that the starter usually gets 100% of the game week snaps, leaving for Trubisky - you guessed it - meaningless practice reps against 2nd and 3rd defenders. On our own team.

This is a game to throw out your sacrificial lambs and bubble roster spot guys.

Glennon is the starter but Trubisky is an injury away from being the guy and there's no reason to offer him up here.

  3. Hence the, they're tanking this year...
All reps are meaningful, I agree, with preseason game reps somewhat more valuable than practice or training camp reps.

I have never liked the trend in the NFL over the last 15 to 20 years of rushing rookie quarterbacks into playing. I think it's ruined the careers of other quarterbacks who might otherwise have been great players, i.e. David Carr.

David Carr got ruined by never being able to drop back due to having the leagues worst O-line.

There's no cookie cutter approach here. It's never apples to apples. Every QB and every situation is different.

The Bears can protect Trubisky. They can provide a solid running game. He wouldn't have great weapons but he would have some guys to throw to. The defense should be in the top half of the league in most areas.

As far as a rookie playing.....this isn't the worst possible scenario.

  5. This is very true.

David Carr was just an example... whenever a rookie quarterback sucks, there are often some kind of extenuating circumstance.

In general though, I believe a quarterback sitting early is better than rushing him in.

  6. FWIW, being reported Trubisky is only going to play a series or two...

So far two 3 and outs, six straight handoffs. What the fuck is the point of this?

  8. Bear-man 11 Franchise Player Bears

    Nine straight handoffs...

9 straight handoffs. Fox is making a mockery of this game. And I like it.

Can't get the game here in NorCal Just listening to WBBM via internet. Was that out of bounds hit on Trubisky as vicious as it sounds?

Also, liking they're opening up the playbook a bit instead of just handing off. I think that was more to get Langford into the game.

Really like Trubisky's use of the hard count.

Definitely a cheap shot, but not terribly violent.

There's one DB who isn't making the team.

    ^^^^^I approve of this message^^^^^

I didn't think he would be ready but he has shown things that say he is.

That along with the fact that the Giraffe has looked like an overpaid stiff means Trubisky should play sooner than later.

The offensive line is the key, if they can protect and run block, play the rookie, he is better.

The thing you're missing underlying point.

If it makes sense to give Trubisky snap and reps to improve his game, it should also make sense (and maybe more) to get Glennon reps.

And if it doesn't make sense for Glennon (or they aren't playing him to protect him) it would also make sense to do the same for Trubisky.

I think both should have say.

And I can tell you, when Trunisky took that cheap hit out of bounds, I guarantee Fox was praying to god (for his own safety) that he wasn't injured.

I get your point(s), but you seemed to have glossed over mine, which is that Glennon has been getting and will get all the first team reps in practice.

My thought is you need to get the kid ready to play somehow, and keeping him in a glass case isn't going to accomplish much.

It would really suck if he got hurt though. It's a tough situation, but I'm for letting him play.

I see what you're saying, but I disagree.

    1) If Trubisky is moved to the #2 QB over Sanchez, he will get a lot of reps with the first team in practice.

    2) Were the guys the Trubisky was out there playing with (and against) "first team"? No.

No. But I'd think even a 4th preseason game would be a much more game-like scenario than practice reps.

He got up and continued, but that is not what you want to see happen to the wrist of the future of franchise at the end of a completely meaningless game in which him playing did not benefit in anyway.

Absolute negligence or indifference from John Fox and whichever it is, is completely unacceptable. He is quickly approaching Juice Box levels of hatred with me.
