War for the Planet of the Apes - solid movie. a good ending to the trilogy, but i think the Apes are too advanced and it was never explained enough how Caesar, who was raised by James Franco in part 1, became so advanced. i know of the testing on apes - i get it, but you can tell on their movements, and especially apes that are not Caesar, that they are way more advanced. they look like trained soldiers on how they enter a room in a triangle formation and have each other's backs. the testing franco did wasn't about that at all. intelligence - yes. advancement - yes. experts on warfare-no! Spoiler i was hoping for some big ending shocker like the original, but it wasn't to come. bummer still good overall. A
kidnap-halle berry going bat shit crazy over some fat lady stealing her kid! wow. the car wrecks she causes alone would mean needing to take the driver's test over again. typical kidnap story with a twist i saw coming a mile away. very solid overall. B +
Wind River - the trailer makes it seem like -- Spoiler: spoiler multiple kids are kidnapped or murdered. that wasn't even true! the trailer is totally misleading. the movie was great till the end and then was kind of a dud. then they this fact stat about missing native american women that didn't really go with the movie. the girl wasn't missing. she was murdered. and renner's daughter was also murdered years earlier. i will say renner was excellent as the game hunter. very realistic. olsen - who is the older sister of the mary-kate and ashley olsen twins was totally miscast. i don't think the FBI would send someone like her up there for that job. and how young is she to be in the FBI? really non-believable. good flick overall. B+. ENDING could've been a lot better.
IT - Spoiler: SPOILER I dislike scary movies and it wasn't that scary. not even close. many scenes were shot in such darkness you can't tell what's going on in them. and the kids when they are together are annoying. it's like watching them trying to get a word in over another kid actor and trying to outdo the other actors with their lines. very annoying. the plot was simple at first and then murky as hell at the end. a sequel is coming too. still somewhat solid. B
Hitman's Bodyguard - Spoiler some halfass buddy movie with Samuel L. Jackson being his annoying hackless self. Plot was dumb and it was just bad overall. Solid action scenes. Reynold could be a solid actor, but he picks the quick money project like this that ruin his career. He needs a good drama to be in and not these silly comedies movies.
IDK...I'm pretty hard-pressed to come up with what that assessment of Ryan Reynolds is based on. He's not an actor, he's a movie star...seems like he's just been playing himself in different films for the last 15+ years.
when he's not acting like an ass, he could be a solid actor. that's why i said put him in a good drama once in a while.
Well he's closer to the former than the latter, at least. He's charming and good-looking, but otherwise has the cinematic range of a shovel. What movies have I missed that gave any hint of his heretofore untapped well of acting talent? Even a decent quality film like Adventureland, who is he? Oh, the charming good-looking guy who doesn't really do anything. If he was an actor who could be put in a good drama once in awhile, somebody would've done it by now, don't ya think? I mean he's a reasonably bankable movie star...there's got to be some casting director somewhere looking for a bankable star to put in their film, right?
i think he's a comedic actor more than anything. best friends is hysterical and it's because of him and the writing. His comedy now sucks. range of a shovel? ouch, that hurts. i think he could do more if given the material.Ryan Gosling is almost a clone of Reynolds except less funny and does more dramatic roles. If Gosling can do it, so could Reynolds. And Casey Affleck just won an Oscar for Pete's sake in a dramatic role and he was a bit actor in the shadow of his brother for over a decade until his brother cast him in one of his own movies as the lead.Casey was never really a lead in anything before until Gone Baby Gone. some studios are worried if actors can make the jump from serious to funny and vice versa. remember tom hanks? he was all comedy movies until the one with Jackie Gleason as his dying Father. It was called "Nothing in Common." It was still half a comedy. Not until "Philadelphia," "Forrest Gump," and "Saving Private Ryan," did he show his truly dramatic range and side. Two of these films he won Best Acting Oscar for. He started on tv portraying a woman for God sake's and as Michael J. Fox's alcoholic embezzler/shyster Uncle on Family Ties. Reynolds was really good in the BURIED. It was not out for a long time, but HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Great twist and turns. Check it out !
I'm with Underdog on this one. I haven't seen anything that suggests Reynolds is anything more than what he's been: a good-looking guy who specialized in harmless fluff rom-coms. Not that there's anything wrong with that - he's making a damn good living. But I don't know that I'd attribute some underlying serious actor chops to him. Guy's 40 years old now - when's he gonna make that move?
go see BURIED! and i blame his agent for not getting him dramatic roles. haha. his net worth is $65 mil. that's insane for a comedic actor that's not a tom hanks, jim carrey etc.
I'll have to check it out, but let's be fair - that's still just ONE movie. And, no - I don't re-assign blame to someone else. Agent isn't holding a gun to his head.
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Sanitized quite a bit from the Tennessee Williams' play, but a movie I still like a lot. "MENDACITY!"
agent's job is to get him roles. many good looking guys in Hollywood could get the same roles as Reynolds', so he has to act fast on them or lose them. Hey, money is money. The guy is worth a staggering $65 million dollars and he's 40!
^^ yikes-so many bad movies are being made today, so he's seeking a lot of the same crap that's already out there. haha. more comic book movies coming. more remakes. just saw ben affleck is starring and directing in the 1950's classic "Witness for the Prosecution" coming out in 2019! No one has anything original anymore. It's why novice screenwriters get the door slammed in their faces when trying to get their work out there and Stan Lee keeps selling rights to Spiderman 8 or Ant Man 2 or Tiger-Lion 2. Ok, the last one is fake but you get my point. Hollywood movies today are terrible. And I just read Linda Hamilton is rejoining with ex-husband James Cameron for another Terminator movie to take place after T2 and going after Cyberdine or whatever it's called. . And of course Arnold is back as well. Another Terminator movie? Ugh.
