Wow, he is becoming dangerous with that chip. Falling day 3? He could other become positively motivated to prove people wrong (Tom Brady situation) or mentally implode and flop like a salmon in a grizzly bears mouth.
I was really thinking about this situation...Is the worry more about his dad being his main coach and trying to weasel his way into the NFL and try and influence his future, almost a Dallas hiring him and Shedeur trying to follow daddy... or maybe a situation of zero proof of flexibility adjusting to any system but his daddy. This is almost a LeVar Ball effect...
Well, Deon did say back in January he would consider coaching in the NFL if there was an opportunity to coach his sons. That doesn't exactly scream job security for the staff that actually drafts him.
I won't lie. I'll be tuning in for the mere entertainment of listening to the talking heads, who pounded the table for Sanders, trip over their tounges all day
The view almost is that he is uncoachable without his dad being there and his dad is a defensive specialist, not an offensive juggernaut.
Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich’s son was behind the Shedeur Sanders prank call The Falcons have announced that the prank call placed during the second night of the draft traces to defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich. In a statement, the Falcons said that Ulbrich’s 21-year-old son, Jax, “unintentionally came across the draft contact phone number” for Sanders. It was on an “open iPad” while Jax Ulbrich was visiting his parents’ home. (Microsoft might not be thrilled about Apple getting some product-placement publicity; the league gets millions per year to use and promote the Surface.) He wrote the number down with the plan to use it for a prank call. Per the Falcons, Jeff Ulbrich was not aware of the situation until after the call happened. “The Atlanta Falcons do not condone this behavior and send our sincere apologies to Shedeur Sanders and his family,” the statement reads, adding that the team has reached out to apologize to Sanders directly. The team also facilitated an apology from Jax Ulbrich to Shedeur. “We have also been in contact with the NFL and will continue to cooperate fully with any inquiries we may receive from the NFL league office,” the statement explains. The Falcons are imposing no discipline on Jeff Ulbrich, and the statement does not apply to any other prank calls made to prospects during the draft. A prank call was made to new Colts tight end Tyler Warren. Another player was called after he was drafted and told he’d been traded. Whether the NFL takes any action against the team or Jeff Ulbrich remains to be seen. The Falcons said they will be “thoroughly reviewing all protocols, and updating if necessary, to help prevent an incident like this from happening again.” per; PFT
A prank call has resulted in a very real punishment for the Falcons and defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich. The NFL has announced that it has fined the team $250,000 and Ulbrich $100,000 “for failing to prevent the disclosure of confidential information distributed to the club in advance of the NFL Draft.” Said the Falcons: “We appreciate the NFL’s swift and thorough review of last week’s data exposure and the event that transpired due to it. We were proactive in addressing the situation internally and cooperated fully with the league throughout the process, and accept the discipline levied to Coach Jeff Ulbrich and the organization. We are confident in our security policies and practices and will continue to emphasize adherence to them with our staff whether on or off premises. Additionally, the Ulbrich family is working with the organization to participate in community service initiatives in relation to last week’s matter.” PFT
Connerly Jr and Abdul Carter also received prank calls this year and its happened in the past also. So, why fine the Falcons personal when maybe the NFL should shore up their ends first.
Jeff Ulbrich is owning up... and thats a good thing. “First of all, I’d like to publicly apologize to Shedeur and the Sanders family for what occurred,” Ulbrich said in a statement at the start of a press conference. “Second of all, I want to publicly apologize to Mr. Blank, Terry Fontenot, Raheem Morris, and the entire Falcons organization. My actions in not protecting confidential data were inexcusable. My son’s actions were absolutely inexcusable and for that we are both deeply sorry. The NFL has taken action and I fully respect the punishment. We take full responsibility — my son and myself — and we will not appeal the fine in any way. Going forward, I promise my son and I will work hard to demonstrate we are better than this.”
It doesn't mean there haven't been fines in the past. It all comes down to "No good deed goes unpunished". They were certainly in the wrong, but they also volunteered the information from my understanding. The report I saw stated the son confessed to the dad, who then reported it as soon as he found out. Hard to punish someone that can't be uncovered. That being said, this one wouldn't have been very public if is wasn't Shedeur Sanders.
Pretty sure it's more of a cyber-security issue. Ulbrich left his touchpad, laptop or whatever open and unlocked.......yes it was at his own home, but someone (his son) did access confidential info. I'd be in some serious shit if I left my work laptop open somewhere and someone snagged some confidential info. I know it was only a prank, but cyber-security is some serious business with most companies. I do think it was inflated due to this being Sanders though.
Whats puzzling me is about 5 have been cranked this year and its happened last year also. So, it raises the question in my mind, why didnt the NFL address this issue after the facts last year? Where are the admonitions or warnings to team coaches, and GM's and such? Has the NFL ever heard of encrypted messages and why does everybody and their brothers need these phone numbers in the first place, lol?
I don’t know that everyone and their brother need them, but he’s the defensive coordinator. That’s one step below the HC. We also don’t know that they don’t send out a “warning” every year… it just happens this time around it became very public and it was finally traceable back to the source. In many cases, as was the case with Baker Mayfield, the pranks are coming from friends and family members of the prospect, not coaching staff families. This one was definitely unique.
Why would a DC need the number if the HC and GM have it as sent by the NFL? The NFL sent a very wide-scaping email to all the peeps on teams... Just keep it to the hierarchy on teams and hold them accountable, imo. Im surprised I didnt get one, lol, so why have it so broad?
