In a word, yes. Especially with the demand of a few franchises needing a future QB and even a future in general, any QB at that position ranked in the top 3 (maybe 4) will more than likely be inside the 32.
Yes. I think he has good enough traits to try and find your franchise QB. Not top half good though if not for the position premium.
In slightly related Draft news... Dart was in Pittsburgh today and Travis Hunter landed up catching some passes from Sanders in front of a decent amount of NFL peeps.
Not really. Good, but not great, at everything. Some have argued for him that he has more starts than anyone. I would argue that’s exactly why he isn’t top 32. To me, seems like the exact kind of player that might take a bad team from 3-14 to 7-10, but basically plateau there. And the team will be trying to replace him in three or four years.
Raiders and Saints. I'm thinking the Jags don't want to trade down and lose out on a guy they might consider elite. Raiders IMO if they don't get a specific guy on their draft board (don't know who, just saying) then they are more inclined to trade back a bit with the Bears, 49ers or Cowboys perhaps.
I can respect this take. He and Colorado were overrated but I don't think he has reached close to his ceiling yet.
I'm pretty sure I know where you're at, Irish, but do you view Sanders as a top 32 player in this draft class?
@Lyman @Underdog @EvertonBears @beachbum @SAS @Dcat @dirk275 @Duff_Beer_Doug @jd0313 @Joe McDonnell @Kyreal @MaineofSteel @manosteel9423 @matthewwillson29 @MaximusGluteus @neanderthal ike @ovfd55 @Sbrabo26 @Roadblock @MaroonTyphoon @StlCrtn @ShanePHallam @Silver&black @Forge @BowserBroncos Who am I forgetting? I'd be real interested in reading what you think about Dart and Sanders. Do you view Jaxson Dart as a top 32 player? Do you view Shedeur Sanders as a top 32 player?
I was responded to if Dart was a top 32 player for the record. Sanders is an enigma. I think they were gushing at his pro day, I saw a lot of balls that slowed down the runner on the shallow crossers. Several times the WR had to reach back to make the catch. He throws a really good deep ball, but I am hesitant to say he can rifle it over the middle in tight windows in traffic. One foot off and it's a PBU, pick or incomplete at the next level. I wish they ran Horn out there with Hunter covering to see if he could complete a ball. I am not sold he is a top 10 pick, top 32, end of round 1 sounds fair.
To expand on Dart. I see the Hurts comparisons but IMO he's not close to as good a prospect. Hurts was a 2nd round pick but he had a lot of questions especially since he kept being bounced around in college when they kept replacing him making people wonder if he could get over that hump.
He's going to be a first round pick, but that’s not your question, is it? IMO, no, there are least 32 other players with a higher skill set at their position than Shedeur Sanders at his. I wish I had done a full evaluation chart like I used to. I always had a position comparison ranking, then I could amass a complete ranking chart regardless of position. When I did it, I didn’t account for position points, like QB bias because of the position importance. When you say “Top 32 Player” that’s what I think of because I am so bias towards BPA in the first round.
The talking heads think they have to gush to promote the stance that they believe he is going to be a high draft pick. If they critique and the guy goes 3rd overall, they feel like they lose credibility. I would love to see someone with conviction come in and point out what you are pointing out and double down when gets over drafted. Revisiting past drafts doesn’t happen often enough. There is so much time between season and draft, I wish they would spend more time on what went right and what went wrong. At the end of the day, these guys are so set in deadlines, they don’t do their due diligence in actually evaluating a player, they just regurgitate each others opinions and keep the news cycle moving.
I suppose I could get onboard with Dart being a poor mans Hurts. A poor mans anything usually doesn’t succeed in the NFL though. Coming out of college, Dart grades out slightly better in passing, but Hurts mastered running. Dart can escape and get positive yardage in the college game. Defenders in the NFL converge way faster. I’m not sure he is on the same level as Josh Allen, let alone Hurts on the rushing side of things. I do believe Dart could be the guy that wins the starting position on 3 different teams over ten years, but never elevates any of those teams.
Im still on the Dart bandwagon in comparison to Sanders. Just look at what happened to Sanders in last years Alamo bowl...the Cougars attacked with multiple looks on defense at Sanders and he couldnt handle it... big stage, under pressure and he wasnt good. Sanders cant run at all, horrible running stats last year (100 carries for -50 yards on the season)... Dart on the other hand (124 carries, 495 at 4.0 YPC). Sanders 2024 RTG - 168.2, QBR - 75.5... Dart 2024 RTG - 180.7, QBR - 86.3. Dart threw for more yards in the air than Sanders without a Heisman Trophy winner on his team also. I understand I threw down some stats, but it kinda makes a statement in my opinion, but it still doesnt project to NFL caliber outcomes, but what else do we have to go by? Its also crazy how 'most' media people who viewed Sanders yesterday were touting how well he did, when as stated here on this thread, maybe he wasnt so hot. I clearly seen late passes, slow footwork on the drop-backs with nothing really too impressive, and to those QB's in that kind of spotlighted environment, your not going to see much anyways. Ive seen these gatherings, Pro Days and workouts and to me their just hyped gimmicks... no defenses, no pressures, just a bunch of soft stuff. Actual in-game footage tells me more about a QB prospects talents than anything else. Personal interviews are also important as maybe you can discern what type of demeaner a kid has or if he has smarts or common sense. Anyhow, Im not on a pro Dart bash Sanders thing... I just think sometimes you can ignore the media hype and as a good coach or GM, flip-flop these prospects around... 180 degrees most of the time.
Sanders was not a Hunter merchant and that Colorado OLine and coaching for it was horrendous. It was slightly better this past year but not much. Again not a great sign for him if he needs a great line but if he gets behind a decent one with proper coaching he should do better. Not that many rookie QBs do well behind an incompetent OLine.
