Steelers traded for and signed DK Metcalf for a 2nd round pick 5 years 150 million deal

I guess we’re not drafting a wide receiver in the first round

Love the player. Don't love the deal-- though they haven't released all the details yet. That's such a huge chunk of their cap space, and they still need a QB, 2 CBs, and an extension of Watt-- not to mention smaller pieces like OL and LB. A second is fine to give up-- the Steelers would possibly have used it on a WR anyway, and none of the available guys are as good as Metcalf.

It’s an extension… this year is for 18 million, but I agree, that’s a lot of money, and Pickens is a free agent next year…. Still no QB’s and that’s going to eat up a bunch of cap space too, we’re not getting by like we did last year and the $$$

Ok new mock coming out with WR not a priority

That 2nd hurts, yes most likely that’s where we’d likely have gotten a WR but it wasn’t guaranteed and our options are limited now. The 2 must have positions I think is RB and DT. One of those 2 we now have to get in the 3rd round instead of 2nd.

See my mock draft, I covered everything, slid back twice, got back into round 2.

You ask me why double dip at CB, well Jason Marshall that late in the draft I could not pass up. My other option was Nazir Stackhouse DT Georgia, it was a coin toss.I leaned towards CB since there are so many uncertanites in the secondary plus I think Logan Lee will have bulked up and will be fresh for camp. I wonder if Mike Golic is right, he is ranting on X about Cam Skatebo. He seems to think that his "attitude" and lunch pail no bullshit never quit attitude will be infectious. I really have no arguement against it, but I went with DJ Giddens who is much more explosive. Trust me the Steelers O needs some "Juice". There was never a Safety that screamed out take me instead of the dude I picked and let's not forget we have Ryan Watts coming back. Charles Grant is ultra athletic and I can see him as a guard at the next level pulling and trapping with his quickness. With experience at OT, he has checks a lot of boxes including playing at Mike Tomlin's alma matter. Plus Marshall may be ready to play sooner than Porter, but Porter has a ceiling that is approaching Cumulous Level.

Also Roc, DL and RB are the two deepest positions in the whole draft. There is some thoughts amongst people who do this shit for a living that there are 14 or so guys with actual first round grades. Does not mean there is not going to be 32 dudes taken it just means that "elite talent" isn't in abundance and half the players taken will actually have 2.01 or 2.12 grades. I like the trade, Metcalf is proven, a difference maker, and if somehow Tre Harris or Elic Ayomanor makes it to 52 in a weak class is highly unlikely. I think teams are gong to reach for WR and OT and by the mid 40's the dudes left at 52 will have 3rd round grades.

Was Judkins not there in the 3rd? Or did you prefer Giddens over him?

Did you see Dan Moore Jr got a 4yr 84 million contract from the Titans?

I like this draft NY, even though it doesn't have a NT. In the 7th, I like Marshall but I am also tempted to go Alijah Huzzie there. More complete and more productive than Marshall-- but lacking Marshall's size. His only real projection in the NFL is as a nickel corner, and if you get Darrien Porter early, then I'd be looking for a nickel rather than an outside guy here. Plus, he has good punt return numbers.

After that splash with Metcalf, the first day of FA has been a hot mess for the Steelers. Signed Darius Clay. Why? Didn't they learn with Patrick Peterson? I do get that he has a little more left than Peterson had, but we needed to get Reed, Ward, or Davis at Corner. Those were the only above-the-line starting CBs out there. Now two are gone. Reed has agreed to terms with the Lions and Davis with the Patriots. Are we even in on Char Ward? And what about Hobbs at nickel?

We needed to pursue Poona at NT-- The only good NT on the market. Now, he's gone. If we don't get a true NT in the draft, we don't get one.

And we whiffed on both Fields and Darnold. Now we're stuck with Frick or Frack (Wilson or Rodgers). I actually hate Wilson less, and we already know he can't take us anywhere. For the life of me, I can't figure out why these pundits keep being excited about the chance of Rodgers signing-- why not just re-sign Roethlisberger? He's as good right now as Rodgers is. The Jets had better offensive weapons than we do, and a defense that's pretty comparable to ours-- and they only got 5 wins with Rodgers, who is a year older now. What a stinking pile of garbage options. Seriously, I'd have more confidence in Jacoby Brissett, and that's a pretty low bar. We HAVE to get a QB in the draft now-- Dart or Shough-- or we are looking at being the Browns for the next 5 years. (Is this all a plan to make fans feel relieved and happy if they re-sign Wilson? Because I WILL feel relieved and happy now if they can resign him.)

The team never prioritized developing a QB for the future when Ben was playing two years after he should have retired, and they didn't try to develop one behind our rentals last year. This is what happens when a team has No Plan for QB.

Am I over-reacting? Or is this a dumpster fire?

I didn’t really see a viable option at QB out there for us, none are going to bring us to the promised land, a playoff win. Darnold had 2 great receivers, but he now got paid. For the 20 mil, I could have tolerated Fields, but I don’t see him bringing a franchise anywhere. I don’t think we should reach for Dart at #21, and will the team fall far enough to be in a position to get a franchise QB next year? Don’t see that happening, I see us as a middle of the draft team next year, still searching for Ben’s replacement. Bradford was really the only option for us, and that wasn’t going to get us to a superbowl either, so not upset by it. Not quite sure TJ ever sees a playoff win in his career, and that’s a shame.

Kenny Pickett traded to Cleveland Browns. Pickett is the likely starter next year in Cleveland.
