The Joey Bosa era in L.A. is over. The Chargers have announced that the third overall pick in the 2016 draft has been released. Bosa was due to earn a $12.36 million roster bonus on March 12. The payment forced the Chargers to make an early decision, giving Bosa a shot at the open market before the budgets have been exhausted. Last year, Bosa took a pay cut to avoid being released. He appeared in 14 games with nine starts, registering five sacks. (It was enough to make it to the Pro Bowl for the fifth time.) He has 72.0 career sacks. Injuries have reduced his chances to have more than that. He has missed time in all but two of his nine NFL seasons. in part; PFT
Metcalf had been discussing leaving the Seahawks for a bit, then I hear, via CBS sports he leaked it publicly after Lockett went bye bye. So who does Geno Smith throw the ball to? Njigba is good if not great, but they need help bigtime now at the WR position.
The NFL’s 2024 sack leader could be on the move in the coming weeks. According to multiple reports, the Bengals have given edge rusher Trey Hendrickson permission to seek a trade. “It’s been an honor and privilege to represent Cincinnati over the last four years,” Hendrickson said, via Adam Schefter of ESPN. “I love this city and organization. I appreciate the privilege of now being allowed to explore my options.” Hendrickson, 30, joined the Bengals in 2021 as a free agent, signing a new deal to keep him under contract through 2025 in July 2023. After recording 17.5 sacks in each of the last two seasons, Hendrickson is in line for an extension. Having already franchise-tagged Tee Higgins with the intent to sign him to a long-term contract and Ja’Marr Chase also in line for a lucrative extension this offseason, Hendrickson is apparently the odd man out. He’s currently due $15.8 million in base salary in 2025 with no money guaranteed. A trade would save Cincinnati $16 million against the cap. in part; PFT
TRADE Jaguars trading WR Christian Kirk to Texans for 2026 seventh-round pick The Jacksonville Jaguars are trading wide receiver Christian Kirk to the Houston Texans for a 2026 seventh-round pick, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported on Thursday, per sources. On Wednesday, the Jaguars initially planned on releasing Kirk after three seasons, but Jacksonville was able to find a trade partner in Houston to move the veteran wideout. In Kirk's three seasons in Jacksonville, the second-round pick in the 2018 draft has been a deep threat for Trevor Lawrence. However, Kirk dealt with multiple injuries during the last two seasons in Duval. Kirk recorded 168 receptions for 2,274 yards and 12 touchdowns in 36 games for the Jags. NFL.com
Well, that probably means Tet McMillan goes a little earlier than I thought he would. Gabe Davis is all they have left for 2nd, 3rd 4th receivers... and he didn't play all that well last year. They have to be planning on making a major upgrade elsewhere.
Lawyers issue statement in response to arrest of Xavier Worthy On Friday, Chiefs receiver Xavier Worthy was arrested for assault. Lawyers Chip Lewis and Sam Bassett have issued a statement on Worthy’s behalf, a copy of which was forwarded by text to PFT. “We are aware of the allegation that led to Mr. Worthy’s arrest,” the statement begins. “We are working with law enforcement in Williamson County to ensure they have the benefit of the totality of circumstances that led to this allegation. “The complainant was asked multiple times over the last two weeks to vacate Mr. Worthy’s residence upon discovery of her infidelity, which a private investigator has video evidence of. She has refused to vacate the residence and made a number of extortive efforts prior to resorting to this baseless allegation against Mr. Worthy. The complainant further destroyed a room in the residence, scratched Mr. Worthy’s face and ripped out parts of his hair, which there is photographic evidence of. Mr. Worthy told law enforcement at the time of the incident that he did not want to press charges against the complainant. “We will continue to cooperate with Williamson County authorities as we have full faith their thorough investigation will support Mr. Worthy’s innocence.” Specifically, Worthy is accused of “assault of a family or house member by impeding the breathing or circulation.” Via Adam Teicher of ESPN.com, it’s a third-degree felony with punishment of 2-10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Felony charges routinely are negotiated down to misdemeanors, and first-time offenders commonly receive little or no jail time. Still, the gravity of the initial charge speaks to the severity of the problem Worthy could be facing under the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy. The baseline punishment under the Personal Conduct Policy for assault is six games. It can go up or down, based on the circumstances. And the league’s in-house process unfolds without regard to the outcome of the criminal case. PFT
Tight end Mike Gesicki will not hit the open market. According to multiple reports, Gesicki has agreed to a three-year deal to stay with the Bengals. The initial reports indicate the contract is worth $25.5 million.
Bills defensive end Greg Rousseau won’t be leaving Buffalo any time soon. Rousseau has signed a four-year contract extension through the 2029 season, the team announced today. The Bills’ first-round pick in 2021, Rousseau was heading into the fifth-year option season on his rookie contract, but now he has a new deal that could keep him in Buffalo through the prime years of his career. Rousseau started 16 games last season and matched his career-high with eight sacks. He also had career highs with 24 quarterback hits, 16 tackles for loss, 36 solo tackles and three forced fumbles. I havnt heard anything about the monies yet.
Free agent wide receiver Hollywood Brown is returning to the Kansas City Chiefs on a one-year deal worth up to $11 million, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Saturday. ESPN
UPDATE A Friday arrest of Chiefs receiver Xavier Worthy has resulted in a Saturday decision that he won’t be charged with a crime. Via the Austin American-Statesman, Williamson County district attorney Shawn Dick said Saturday night that his office will not be accepting the case. Worthy had been booked for assault against a family or household member by impeding their breathing or circulation. It’s a third-degree felony with punishment of 2-10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. “After further investigation by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office and further discussion with a third-party witness, Mr. Worthy and his attorneys, this case is being declined at this time pending completion of the investigation by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office,” Dick’s office said via email. “Mr. Worthy and his lawyers are fully cooperating with this investigation. “We will continue to evaluate the case. As is our practice with all declines, should you develop additional information indicative of probable cause in this case, our office will consider that information and may present the case at that time to a Williamson County Grand Jury. Worthy remained in custody at 6:50 p.m. ET. He’s expected to be released soon.
ZACK ERTZ IS HANGING AROUND FOR ANOTHER YEAR It’s a one-year, $6.25 million contract for Ertz, with another $2.75 million available in incentives, via Tom Pelissero of NFL Media.
The Bills are releasing veteran pass rusher Von Miller. The move, which will be made official this week, comes as no surprise: Miller would have had a $23.814 million salary cap hit if he had stayed on the Bills under his current contract, and that wasn’t feasible. That doesn’t necessarily mean Miller is done in Buffalo: It’s possible that he and the Bills could agree to a return at a lower salary. But by cutting him, the Bills avoid that massive cap hit and give Miller the opportunity to find out his value on the open market. Miller, who will turn 36 this month, is one of the best pass rushers of his era, a Super Bowl MVP and a three-time first-team All-Pro. He’s not playing at that level anymore, but he’ll draw interest from NFL teams who think he can still contribute, and can be a valuable veteran presence. PFT/Smith
Source: Baltimore Ravens will re-sign tackle Ronnie Stanley The Baltimore Ravens reached a contract agreement with left tackle Ronnie Stanley on Saturday, securing their top free agent and quarterback Lamar Jackson's blind side for the near future. Stanley's three-year deal is worth $60 million, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. His average of $20 million per year is tied for eighth among left tackles. The deal was reached two days before the start of the negotiation period in free agency. Stanley, a two-time Pro Bowl player, was expected to draw strong interest in the open market. Sources: Myles Garrett, Browns agree to record contract extension The Cleveland Browns and Myles Garrett have agreed on a record contract extension that averages $40 million per year and includes $123.5 million in guaranteed money, making the star defensive end the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history, sources told ESPN. The Browns announced the four-year extension, which runs through the 2030 season, on Sunday but did not disclose financial terms. Garrett's agent, Nicole Lynn of Klutch Sports, and Browns general manager Andrew Berry finalized the deal Sunday, according to sources, ending a standoff that started last month when Garrett requested a trade out of Cleveland. The extension also includes a no-trade clause, according to sources, and re-establishes Garrett's Hall of Fame trajectory that he referred to as "Cleveland to Canton."
