The Cowboys’ search for a new head coach could best be described as a soap opera. Cowboys offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer may be negotiating to become the 10th head coach of the team, but now comes intriguing and interesting news. Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports Jones has spoken with former Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll regarding the opening. Harris described the conversation “as informal, although the interest is legitimate enough to be reported.” There are no plans for a formal interview, per Harris. PFT
Texans amicably part ways with team president despite back-to-back AFC South division titles In a surprise move, the Houston Texans have amicably parted ways with team president Greg Grissom, the team announced Thursday. The move was made despite the Texans winning a second consecutive AFC South division title in 2024. The Texans have also won playoff games in consecutive years. "We want to thank Greg for his contributions to the organization," Texans CEO Cal McNair said in a statement. "Since he became our team president in 2021, Greg helped me implement numerous initiatives to help our organization fearlessly evolve and grow in many ways, which we are thankful for. We wish Greg and his family nothing but the best in the future. We will provide updates regarding the team's next president in the coming days." Specifically, Grissom oversaw the team's management and direction of business operations. He had been with the franchise for nearly 25 years, including the last four as team president. Grissom said that he feels that "it's the right time to embrace new challenges opportunities." "Over the past four years, I am incredibly proud of of what we accomplished for our fans and our business," he said in a statement. "I am grateful for my time with the Texans and look forward to what's next." As noted above, the Texans have quickly become of the NFL's upper-echelon teams. After winning just seven games during Grissom's first two years as president, the Texans won 22 games over the past two seasons. Houston hosted and won AFC wild-card games both seasons, including a 32-12 win over the Chargers earlier this month. Expect the Texans to move quickly to find their next president, with the start of free agency less than two months away. CBS
Coen is ghosting the Bucs after agreeing to return on a new deal as OC because the Jags firing Baalke got his attention. A signing seems imminent.
FWIW Belichick Finally signed his UNC contract; The Tar Heels released Belichick’s deal, which continues through the end of 2029, Thursday. The 72-year-old will be making $10 million per season, though his official base salary is $1 million. The other $9 million will be coming from what is described as "supplemental income." lol... Nobody can live on only a million per year. I sure couldnt (because it will never happen).
Report: Robert Saleh headed back to San Francisco as defensive coordinator Robert Saleh apparently isn’t getting a second chance as a head coach in this hiring cycle. Saleh is headed back to San Francisco, returning as the team’s defensive coordinator, TheAthletic.com reports Thursday night. He interviewed with the Cowboys, Jaguars and Raiders and appeared a front-runner for the job in Jacksonville. Buccaneers offensive coordinator Liam Coen began negotiating with the team again Thursday after they fired General Manager Trent Baalke, and Coen now is expected to become the Jaguars’ head coach. Saleh canceled his flight to Jacksonville late Thursday for a second interview scheduled for Friday. The Jets fired Saleh five games into his fourth season, going 20-36 in his time in New York. Saleh initially joined the 49ers in 2017, and his “all gas, no brake” defense was became one of the top units in the league within two years. His work in San Francisco landed him the Jets’ job, and it could lead to a second opportunity as a head coach after the 2025 season, depending on how it goes. Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area recently reported the 49ers had offered to make Saleh the highest-paid defensive coordinator in the league. I can dig it. My preferred option is for them to sign a free agent passer, trade down a couple picks in the first (target OL), and take Dart at the top of the third. Nothing flashy. Just put together something that you can work with for 2025 and continue building the roster in anticipation for 2026. Ideally, someone would be willing to overpay with a future first and some more to jump up a couple spots for a coveted player. This would give the Giants two firsts and some extras to move up in 26' or simply stand on what may be another high pick and take an arm. Depending on who all declares, we could be looking at multiple quarterbacks that analysts will be projecting as franchise passers.
If they do something competent with that offensive line in the offseason, you may be able to sway me into thinking they can make the playoffs. Conference championship? ...
Dart is my favorite QB prospect bar none, except maybe Howard. Im not crazy about anyone as far as the hyped top 3 QB's go. Not because of scarlet & gray sunglasses, but his accuracy, ability to read defense in the pocket when under fire after the snap, foot-work and arm strength and the fact he's playing in a pro style offense... he's under-rated in my opinion. Dart and Howard, IF I were a GM would go well before, Ward, Sanders and Milroe. Peeps may not agree , but its my take from what Ive seen. IMO. if either of the two are available, especially after the 1st round JUMP on it.
Pete Carroll is going to be the next head coach of the Raiders. Momentum had been building toward that outcome and Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the two sides have reached agreement on a deal. It’s a three-year deal with an option for a fourth season. Carroll spent 14 seasons as the head coach of the Seahawks before parting ways with the franchise after the 2023 season. He won one Super Bowl and lost another in Seattle and also won a national title with USC after two less successful stints as the head coach of the Jets and Patriots earlier in his career. Carroll will become the third person to be the permanent head coach for four different franchises. Bill Parcells and Marty Schottenheimer are the other two while Wade Phillips has been the full-time coach of three teams and the interim head coach of a fourth club. _____ ____________ PFT and a bunch of others
Given the cluster fuck way they both got to this point, this looks a very good fit. 100%, the OL is key. It was key 3years ago with Fields and that never changed. But if they can add 3 quality bodies to that OL personally im not just swayable, i have a degree of expectation tbh. It was a bit of an anomaly for #6 & #7 seeds to have such good records this season. Now there's the extra spot a team will get in for being over .500 most years. Anyway we'll see. As for CC, in all seriousness no. I mean i could point to the Deadskins and say they did it, but the number of huge things going their way that played into that means you'd to be certifiable to base an argument for someone else to repeat it based on that. If you know what i mean. Nothing against the Commies tho, in fact i salute them saving us all from the Lions fanbase becoming even more insufferable(the phrase act like you've been there before has never been more relevant).
The Texans have made a significant change to their coaching staff. Houston has fired offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik, according to multiple reports. Slowik, 37, was praised for his work with quarterback C.J. Stroud during the 2023 season, helping the No. 2 overall pick of the draft earn AP offensive rookie of the year. But Stroud more than doubled his interceptions in 2024 and his passing numbers dipped significantly, despite playing in two fewer games. Houston finished at No. 19 in points scored and No. 22 in total yards in 2024 after being No. 13 and No. 12 in the same categories the previous season. Slowik was previously alongside Houston head coach DeMeco Ryans with the 49ers. Slowik was hired in Kyle Shanahan’s first season with San Francisco, serving as a defensive quality control coach before moving over to become an offensive assistant in 2019. He became the team’s offensive passing game coordinator in 2022 before heading to Houston with Ryans in 2023. Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, offensive line coach Chris Strausser has also been fired after two seasons with the club. The Texans will have a significant offensive overhaul for Stroud’s third season in 2025. PFT
