This is so bad. I mean, embarrassingly bad. You don't have the talent to overcome terrible coaching, and you've got too terrible coaching to overcome such bad talent. Poles needs to be held accountable. He won't be, but he needs to be. This is awful.
As per usual….you get a little excited about this team and they take a hot steaming shit right on your head.
Yeah, it's baffling at this point. What the fuck are they working on, with him? Passing open reads to throw contested balls to Keenan Allen - that's a statement I could make multiple times in every game he's played, so far.
I’m okay with being patient with that part of his game because I do see him going through reads. He’s gonna miss some. The unwillingness to let dead plays die is something a good coach works on. But of course we don’t have good coaches.
Thats the same double edged sword we discussed with Fields endlessly. The only reason they were in FG range was Caleb making multiple incredible escapes from pressure. If you accept one you have to accept the other. The answer isnt to take away some of Caleb's best traits, its to have your OL do their jobs once in a while and fucking block.
Here's the thing with that tho, if you had the time to break down film you'd find that happening with every QB in every game in the league. They miss open guys, it happens. Also i feel the overhead view they show to be misleading at times. Was a giant defender right in Caleb's eyeline just blocking his view of Kmet at the crucial moment? This stuff's taking place in the blink of an eye.
Caleb has to understand field position and when it’s okay to risk and sack and when it’s not. You cant run yourself away from points.
Yeah, I agree with Ev, here. You're going to get some big negatives with the big positives, when you're asking Caleb to carry the offense with his hero ball. And let's be clear, that's what they're doing, with this joke of an offensive line and an offensive philosophy that has him throwing 30-40 times a game. I would, frankly, love if they had an offense that Caleb didn't have to play hero ball with. But they do. So here we are. Caleb has to be able to get through at least two reads before going into hero mode. Right now, we're lucky when he can get one.
This, I agree with. He's had issues all year with not knowing where the sticks are when he runs, or wanting to throw for a home run on third and short. Gotta keep the chains moving above all, and keep yourself in field goal range when you're there.
I hope like hell they dont try to coach that part of his game out of him. 1 they're not competent enough. 2 it would be a catastrophic long term mistake. His instinctiveness is what gives him a legit shot to get at/near Mahomes level in broken play. Its a fair point about FG range tho. I guess im just being very patient with him. The talent is undeniable, he has a lot of rope as far as im concerned.
I would agree, it's just that the contested throws to Keenan Allen when open receivers are elsewhere just litters the film in every game. I'm not saying that it's always Caleb doing something wrong, but it's happening too much for it to not be partially on Caleb.
To be clear, I'm also on board with giving Caleb time to develop, I'm just questioning how the fuck he's going to develop with obviously deficient talent and coaching around him.
Just to be clear, the forced risky throws in broken play is something different, im just talking about trying to keep a play alive. He had that bad pick i think against the Texans where he got out the pocket then forced a throw across the field. It was an ugly pick, but to his credit he hasnt done it again since. Thats a very positive thing.
