Jayden Daniels becomes first player to ever pass for 1,000, rush for 250 in first five games Per the Commanders, Daniels became the first player in league history to have at least 1,000 passing yards and 250 rushing yards in his first five career games. The No. 2 overall pick of this year’s draft, Daniels threw for 166 yards and rushed for 48 yards in the first half against Cleveland on Sunday.
Saints QB Derek Carr exits Monday night loss to Chiefs early with oblique injury Derek Carr's Monday night outing ended with just more than six minutes of game time remaining. Carr left to the locker room with an oblique injury during his New Orleans Saints' 26-13 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Carr, who simply answered "not good" when asked how he was feeling following the game, said he would have an MRI on Tuesday. "You know me, I'm going to do anything I can to be there," Carr said when asked about his status for New Orleans' Week 6 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Initially deemed questionable to return, Carr never came back while backup Jake Haener finished out the evening. Carr was 18 of 28 for 165 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. He was sacked just once, but was hit eight times and pressured on 51.7% of his dropbacks. The injury didn't occur on any particular hit, but on a throw, Carr explained. He was hopeful of doing something to manage it to stay in the game, but there wasn't enough time left for that to happen. "I couldn't do what I needed to do," Carr said. "In the simplest form and I asked if there was anything we can do about it and there was not enough time to do that. So, I would have done anything to be out there and keep fighting, but I couldn't. It sucks." Now, he has just six days to get ready to play again on Sunday. That's all pending Tuesday's results, of course. NFL.com
Well, the Saints started the season at 2-0 and yes, I jumped on the bandwagon too. It was fun while it lasted. Now, where the hell is my paper bag??
Good. Now the Steelers can stomp this guy and I won't have to feel bad for Minshew. The Raiders are such a trash organization.
The NFL has already flexed this week 8 matchup between these two QB's to 4:25 PM ET to get them on a national audience.
Steelers QB Russell Wilson takes first-team reps in practice PITTSBURGH -- A day after coach Mike Tomlin said he was "in consideration" to make his first start of the season, Russell Wilson took first-team reps in Wednesday's practice, teammates confirmed Wednesday. "He's been out there the past few weeks, so it's good getting him in first-team reps," left tackle Dan Moore Jr. said. During the open portion of practice where video was allowed, Wilson led off the rotation in individual drills, followed by Justin Fields and Kyle Allen. Tomlin, though, declined to detail specific snap distributions following the first practice of the week. "I'm not going to get into the details of how we distribute the reps and things of that nature," Tomlin said. "It doesn't benefit us. Both guys were full participants today, and I liked it. I liked their participation." He also remained mum when asked whether he had determined a starter for Sunday night's game against the New York Jets. "Any decisions made at this point are in-house," Tomlin said. For his part, Moore added that not much will change for the offensive line no matter who starts in Sunday's game. "I mean, just can't really pay attention to stuff like that," he said. "Control we can control. We just got to focus on our execution. I don't think it's going to change tremendously. Obviously, design quarterback schemes and runs and stuff like that may change, but for the most part, our job will be the same. Keep them clean and getting the ground game going." ESP and an N
Tua Tagovailoa to resume practicing, hopes to play Week 8 Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was expected to resume practicing next week, with the hopes of being able to play next Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals, sources confirmed to ESPN. Tagovailoa remained in the concussion protocol and was subject to the NFL's return-to-play provisions, which would play a crucial step in determining whether he could return. Despite his most recent concussion, Tagovailoa planned to attempt to return to playing football, and it no longer seemed to be a question. As scary as Tagovailoa's latest injury was, with his arms falling into a fencing response, it was consistent with how he had acted after each of the other concussions he sustained. Tagovailoa has been spotted visiting with neurologists in Pittsburgh, as he has done in the past, and doctors seemingly have not told him anything strong enough that would change his mind about wanting to continue playing the sport that has been a part of his life since his childhood. Not only has Tagovailoa consulted with some of the same doctors he visited after previous head injuries, he also has visited with new ones, trying to gather as much information as possible in making a clear determination about his future. But as one source told ESPN earlier this month: "He's 100 percent playing." Tagovailoa also has insisted that he has felt fine. After sustaining a concussion in the Dolphins' Week 2 Thursday night game against the Bills, he was symptom-free shortly thereafter. Rather than go to a local hospital, Tagovailoa remained in the Dolphins' locker room, greeted his teammates and demonstrated few signs he had experienced another traumatic episode involving his brain. in part from; ESPN
Commanders' Jayden Daniels exits with rib injury vs. Panthers LANDOVER, Md. -- Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels suffered a rib injury on his first possession of Sunday's game and was ruled out of the 40-7 victory against the Carolina Panthers. Daniels headed to the locker room in the first quarter and did not return to the sideline until after halftime, when he was dressed in street clothes. A source told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler about Daniels' X-ray: "He's good." His mother also posted on social media that "he's fine." ESPN
Dan Quinn: Jayden Daniels is week-to-week, we’re hopeful he’ll play Commanders head coach Dan Quinn classified quarterback Jayden Daniels as “week-to-week” in his Monday news conference after this year’s No. 2 overall pick suffered a rib injury during yesterday’s victory over the Panthers. “We’ll take him through all the steps at practice, asses how he’s doing, and keep working through that,” Quinn said. “We’re hopeful he can play. But we’ll also make sure to take every precautionary step and do it smartly for the player and the man. “It’s not going to be something that’s going to knock him out long-term. So, we’re going to list it as week-to-week. And hopefully, he’ll play this week and we’ll take it all the way through.” Quinn noted Daniels suffered the injury on Washington’s first play, which he took for a 46-yard run. While he was able to finish that possession, Washington felt it best to hold him out for the rest of the contest. Given that it’s a core injury, Quinn noted that Daniels will have to be able to get through all of his movements to be able to play the way he’s accustomed to playing. “He’s such a unique player that I want to make sure he can be him, fully, in his own way — the movements, throwing, all the stuff that would go with that, as you can imagine,” Quinn said. “So, I know he’ll do everything he can. But I’ll trust my eyes. And, certainly, know him well. So, like I said, we’ll take it every step of the way.” Quinn added that he realizes he might have to hold Daniels back a bit. “He is, at his core, a true competitor. And we wouldn’t expect anything different from that,” Quinn said. “But we’ll really trust our eyes, the medical staff, and like I said, we’re going to make sure we assess this every single day and make sure when he’s able to be him, fully, in that space, then we’ll let it rip. But we’ll just take it the whole week — we’ve got practice to assess and movements and going through it. Each day, we’ll have a better update.” Daniels has completed a league-high 75.6 percent of his passes for 1,410 yards with six touchdowns and two interceptions this season. He’s also rushed for 372 yards with four TDs. The Commanders will host the Bears on Sunday, issuing their first injury report of the week on Wednesday. If Daniels is unable to play, Marcus Mariota will start at quarterback. PFT
Browns' Deshaun Watson has ruptured Achilles An MRI revealed that Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson has a season-ending ruptured right Achilles tendon, the team announced Monday. Coach Kevin Stefanski had said after his team's 21-14 loss to the Bengals on Sunday that it appeared Watson had suffered a season-ending injury. Stefanski said Monday that Watson will have surgery this week. He was unaware of the exact type of procedure Watson would undergo. ESPN
Tua Tagovailoa injury update: Dolphins designating QB to return from IR; on track to play Week 8 vs. Cardinals Tua Tagovailoa is on track to return for the Miami Dolphins after missing multiple weeks with a concussion. On Monday, head coach Mike McDaniel told reporters the team is designating the quarterback to return from injured reserve, via ESPN. Tagovailoa, who still needs to clear concussion protocol in order to play in their Week 8 game against the Arizona Cardinals, will practice with the team Wednesday, according to CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones. Week 8 marks the earliest time Tagovailoa could return from injured reserve as the Dolphins open his 21-day practice window. "I've been symptom-free since the next day [after the concussion]," Tagovailoa said, adding that experts told him extended rest would help. He said by placing him on IR, "I think [the Dolphins] did what was best in terms of protecting myself from myself." CBS
