Yeah, I'm pretty sure the Haslem's admitted they were aware of the situation when they signed him. ALL subsequent additions to the original class action are a part of that disclosure... This is NOT a part of that original Class Action suit..
{click me to read} Article from the Akron Beacon Journal about them talking to family before trading for Watson
This part stood out to me especially... I don't think it could have turned out any more wrong than his confidence told him...
@IrishDawg42 I think this new allegation, whether it is new or known previously, is just going to pour gas on the fire. People will just assume it’s new and rage about Watson. This franchise will lose more fans because of this and poor play on the field will just add more fuel to the flames. And this sure as hell won’t help the Haslams get money out of the city or county in their quest to move to Brookpark to build their Multibillion dome and mixed use space - not that I think the city/county/state should be helping pay for this cause phuque these billionaires who can afford to pay for it themselves.
13 freaking penalties and like 4 on that last drive that put us out of FG range. And what the hell was that rollout pass on third down with 1:40 to go?!?!? Run the ball and the clock to under a minute Stefanski!!! Defense showed up for the most part and special teams did a great job. First half offense was improved but disappeared in the second half. 2 of 14 on third downs is inexcusable.
Cleveland Browns DT Mike Hall Jr. pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor, in Avon Lake Municipal Court Thursday morning. The judge then sentenced Hall to two years probation. He was also given a suspended 30-day jail sentence. On Sept. 10, the judge did terminate the temporary protection order/no contact order.
Looking back, I could live with having a $250M backup. Wish we had kept Flacco. There are no excuses for this offense. Flacco had a mostly injured o-line. He never had as much time as Watson has had with the Off Coordinator, albeit he is new but not a valid excuse. The difference between Watson’s and Flacco’s play last year were night and day. I’ll even go as far to say that Watson had it a bit easier with a few less injuries to the offense at the time. I think Haslam’s hope of a franchise QB has dried up and he needs to stop being a Jerry Jones Jr and stop meddling and let the front office do their jobs better than he ever could. Thank goodness Berry and company have been able to massage the cap numbers and kick the can a bit down the road for now. That bill will come due soon though. Bench Watson, cut him, put him on the practice squad, get him a hot dog vendor job at the stadium. ……. anything but being our starting QB. His stats pale in comparison to nearly every single QB that has started for the Browns since our return…….and that’s some pretty sad company. Where is @SAS to tout the return of Johnny Manziel?
I don't know if there is any truth to this, but I heard from a fairly reliable source a couple of days ago, Flacco isn't here because of Deshaun Watson. They were set to offer Flacco a contract to comeback and Watson told the front office that he had a job to do and he can't do it if every person in the stadium starts chanting for Flacco every time he throws an interception. He said if he has to look over his shoulder, he can't play to his full potential and he would refuse to play. He told them, if they were going to sign him, sign him to be the starter and he will work through everything he needs to from a back up role... So they signed Jameis Winston instead. Again, this guy.. that talked to the other guy by the way, wasn't in the room. He is someone that has very close business dealings with Haslem and the Browns organization and he was told the story by someone that was apparently in the room. Take it for what it's worth. I don't know if there is a lick of truth to the story, but if so, that is why Flacco isn't here right now. However... the same source said that the idea of Watson was presented to Haslem, not the other way around.... So, if THAT'S the case, then I have lost a lot of respect for Berry as well. I have felt all along that Haslem was the puppet master of that deal. At the end of the day, I agree 100% with you Duff, bench the guy, put him on paid leave (it's not like it matters, his contract is guaranteed), do what ever it takes to distance yourself from this fool.
I've heard this from someone I consider solid enough to believe it's accurate, but part of what I was told does not jive with the second part of what you posted. I was told the complete opposite on this, and I think you have the correct opinion. From what was shared with me - Haslam was against the idea of Berry wanting to sign Jameis Winston back in 2022. He wanted to make the deal for Watson to, what he believed would, end their search for a franchise quarterback. He didn't think Winston could do it, and he didn't think it would drive ticket sales/revenue to go after, what he considered, an injured failure at the position. I'm pretty sure Teddy Bridgewater was the other name that came up, but it reads like Berry basically wanted to bridge the situation and go after a passer in 2023. You gotta think Ohio State's arm would have been coveted. The idea that Winston was signed by Berry gives this some added credibility.
This is the version I had theorized all along. But it isn't what was told to me the other day. It sure as hell makes more sense to me, considering the strides Berry has made since taking the job.
