No one should ever question the impact good coaching makes.

You know what i'd love? An OC/playcaller who didn't have to come in and shit the bed multiple times in season before he learned what works and what is fucking horrific, if he ever learned at all. Im not even asking to light the place up, just be competent FFS. Identify who your best players are. Identify what they do well(the actual point of offseason/camp). Understand which concepts work in the modern game(bbw summed up in a fucking sentence the futility of toss plays). Its not fucking complicated.

Waldron, Getsy, Nagy, Frodo, Gase, Kromer, Tice, Fartz.

These turds have been playcallers over the last 15 years and all of them with maaaybe the exception of Gase came in and were immediate clueless fucks who either took way longer than they should to get it, or in most cases just never did at all.

    Preach Brother!

The caveat here is that yes they caught the Texans in an accommodating look up front ie no one lined up over the shitbird who snaps the ball, which as well as not immediately blowing up the play allowed him to get to the 2nd level. I mean shitbird still got stood up and shed like it was nothing by a guy he had over 50lbs on, but at least its all taking place 5yards downfield rather than in the backfield.

Stop with this 90% run out of shotgun bullshit, get the QBs ass under C and run the fucking ball downhill! As as soon as you have even moderate success at that, PA that bitch, pref inc multiple rollouts.

Its taken me a whole 2 games to say this. Fuck Waldron.

You guys are hitting on what bothers me here. We can rank what's shittiest, and Caleb's problems exist, but he's a) a rookie and b) way the fuck down the list.

Center, Interior Offensive line, horrific. Even Wright has looked like ass. It's painful. Today Tevin came out and blamed the coaches. Which yeah, maybe, but you fucks also suck and are not executing anything, Shelton more than anyone. I am wishing for Mustipher? No, but christ was he maybe better than Shelton? Did we actually DOWNGRADE from a solid turd, to some loose diarrhea? What about the scheme? I only just realized yesterday that Chris Morgan was NOT fired, how the fuck did that happen. Is Waldron implementing some bullshit blocking scheme no one can understand? Why is our running game so bad? Scheme, playcalls, but also maybe Swift just isn't as good. I AM wishing we still had Monty.

I get what blang is saying about Kmet's blocking, especially on that one play, but fuck me, Everett sucks complete ass, how is he targeted more? As I said, everyone shares some of the blame here. It's early, but it would be nice to see forward progress.

Someone on reddit posted some shit like, "why is everyone pessimistic, we were within 6 against a very good team with the ball at the end, we're close!" and that statement just reeks of not having understood just what the fuck it was you were watching. Someone else replied "we were 50 yards away from winning" and I had to point out that 50 yards is a fucking lot for a team that managed 200 yards ALL GAME. Man, I just looked too, 27 of that 200 yards came on the final drive *already* and we were actually 60 yards away, we ended at the 40. That is fucking forever away. But I mean, hey, progress, 200 yards is up 33% from the previous games 150. Yes, an NFL offense gathered 150 yards of TOTAL offense. An NFL offense is actually averaging 175 yards per game of "total offense". Christ almighty.

I really despise fans that gatekeep and call people haters if they don't upend the gallon of fucking kool aid over their head every second of their life. It is ok, even reasonable, to be concerned by *specific* things. And I understand there are fans that will bitch no matter what, but it's ok to point out that maybe we should be slightly concerned?

Can they turn it around? Yeah, it is entirely possible, the sky is not falling. But that needle is pointed at about 5 degrees north of treading water right at the moment, because this offense is one of the worst I've seen, and I have watched the Bears my entire life. Needle is barely pointing up. And I don't fault one fan for being down on this team. But until I see it, I'm way off the fucking hype train.

It’s the whole square peg round hole shit all over again. Just like with Nagy. Outside zone running scheme with Oline that can’t block it.

Swift is a perimeter runner. He is the lightning with no thunder. The reason every run play is stuffed 5 yards in the backfield is teams know we don’t run inside so they kill 2 birds with one stone by setting the edge to contain Williams and stop the run, snuffing out screens while there at it so 3 birds. You drafted Roschon Johnson fucking use him. Like Ev said line it up old school and pound. 1-3 yards is better than -5. It shouldn’t be this hard.

Click on this shit if you dare.

1- Whoever this guy is that made the post, he's right, cut Nate Davis yesterday. The bum just lunges out of his stance, head down and predictably misses his target completely cos he's not using his eyes. Then stumbles up to the 2nd level, can't decide which of two defenders to try and block and misses both. Unbelievable.

2- We don't play favs here, Tevin Jenkins does almost the same thing. He doesnt even look to block a DL, which tbh may be by design to get him to the 2nd level faster. Unfortunately having got to the 2nd level Jenkins goes full Nate Davis and doesn't block anybody either. I'll come back to Jenkins.

3- Point out 1 OL to me who does his actual job on this play. Im struggling and if its no one then the OL coach also needs to be fired yesterday.

4- Legit question: Do you think this was meant to be an outside zone run? It would certainly fit Waldron's pattern. I ask cos it looks to me like Swift's initial move was maybe to take this run off tackle. Problem is Bumston Jones gets immediately taken back 4yards and any off tackle run is DOA. Swift seemed to make a quick decision to then cut inside. But look at the positions Jenkins, Everett & even DJ take, that sure looks to me like they're trying to seal off the inside. If any of that is true then maybe Jenkins gets a pass. You can't block every angle in space at speed. His responsibility would be from roughly square on to outside, he just wouldn't be expecting the tackler to come straight up the hashes. If thats all true then as bad as Nate Davis is the person who really killed the play was Bumston Jones. I dunno what do you guys think?

    5- .......fuck it...thats all i got.

What's up with the rookie OT from Yale? We should plug him in at LG, move Teven back to RG. Put Nate Davis on the PUP list, because he is physically unable to perform.

Not to mention he's probably a better blocker than Swift.

  10. tunafat Franchise Player Bears

They should create a MUP list because that's where he is, mentally unable to perform.
Probably because he's not the right fit for his zone blocking scheme. Apparently he wants backs with more lateral quickness.
I get it in theory because the back should be able to change direction and hit the open gap, but when there are no open gaps, at least Johnson would have the ability to force one instead of this indecisive dancing behind this shit line currently going on.

  11. patg006 M.V.P. Bears

So this to me is especially interesting after what Teven Jenkins said when getting pressed by the beat guys yesterday when asked about the struggles. “We execute to what we’re getting coached to do.”

Is he putting this on Chris Morgan? Not trying to jump down a rabbit hole that theoretically, arguably isn't there based on appearance of effort in 2 games, but could it be possible Morgan and Waldron aren't on the same page? Not saying this means anything, but its rather coincidental when considering the possibility that Morgan isn't Waldron's guy as OL coach.

Am I the only pessimist on Roschon? Because I see more Jeremy Langford-esque slowness hitting the hole, questionable vision, no burst, takes way too much unnecessary contact, and other than a couple series against preseason 4th quarter talents that wont make the rosters come week 12 or beyond when everybody's hurt and teams are looking for bodies--he just doesn't look like he belongs here.

The scouting report of him from Texas didn't hide his wide variety of flaws, with benefits being his ability to block in the backfield and how he hasn't taken the kind of abuse Bijan took based on reps.

  12. EvertonBears M.V.P. Bears

Its very coincidental to say the least.

Apparently Morgan isnt just the OL coach, he's the running game co-ordinator as well. He owns this shit all the way round! At this point there's little doubt that if heads do start rolling the first one to go will be Morgan. I have no idea why he stuck around anyway!

I'm not a big fan, but what do they have to lose? I am getting tired of 3-yard losses on a run play, even a 1-yard loss is better than three.

  14. bigrobo876 Franchise Player Bears

More change the running scheme less I love Roschon.

I think Tevin was throwing Swift under the bus more than his coach. If you go back and watch there are a good number of plays where Swift seems to not follow the blockers in front of him. Plus a stiff breeze knocks him off his feet.

  15. vvarder Franchise Player Bears

Indy sucks, that was a bad loss. That said, there are some positives:

    1. The defense was playing lights out for a while there, outside of the 2 plays that went for 80 yards early on. I don't fault them here too much, though they did flag down the stretch. Billings has been showing up, Sweat is still a great pickup. Overall, Eberflus has these guys playing well, I was not expecting this.
    2. Caleb did start to finally make some plays, especially the connection with Rome and Kmet, and they got the TD finally.
    3. Roschon looked good, hard runner, showing some of the flashes we saw before, even though this team is horrific against the run.

But of course, there's so much bad to talk about.
    1. The line. What more can be said? They were "better" this week, but that's such a ridiculously low bar it's under the floor somewhere.
    2. I agree with Ev and dline on the game thread, Caleb is sailing a LOT of balls deep. His clock is sped up more than it should be, the line isn't as bad as he thinks it is. And it doesn't help when he got the ball stripped, because we had what looked like Everett and Kmet blocking their star rook?
    3. Swift sucks. I've seen enough, I am off that bandwagon - not that I was ever on it. You cannot convince me he's better than even Herbert at this point. Yet he's still getting touches. What's he averaging 1.2 yards a carry?
    4. Shane Getsy/Luke Waldron sucks. You have a rookie QB, and you're asking him to do WAY too much, calling out audibles at the line, options, etc. And apparently, THROWING for over 50 times against a team that surrendered record breaking rushing yards last week? What in the fuck is up with some of these play calls? 4 straight runs from the shotgun from the 3 yard line (and that absolute clown show for 4th down, I mean, unbelievable). I told my buddy, oh, 2nd down, lets run PA and take a shot, we're at the 3. No no, lets run out of shotgun. Much better idea. 50 FUCKING PASSES. How patient do I need to be with this guy? He installed his offense that he's run for a while, right? If you can't scheme against the colts, we are going to be in some serious trouble. We still have some easier games coming up on the schedule, but the back half of this year is going to be a RUDE awakening if they can't figure this shit out.
    5. Eberflus sucks. I think he gets all the credit in the world for turning around the Defense. But as a HC, stuff like, I don't know, making sure your team knows you are going for 2 if you score a TD? Did they just not even think they were going to get it?
    6. Refs sucked. You blow the whistle for forward progress AFTER the ball is out of his hands? I guaran-fucking-tee that if that ball hit the ground, it's an incomplete pass and they aren't treating him as a runner. Then LATER in the game, you allow the RB to be stopped forever, but let THAT play go? And to be fair, there were calls that went against the Colts too that were questionable. I don't like watching ref-ball. You spot Kmet short when he CLEARLY jumped forward by about a half yard past the marker?

This was cathartic (didn't watch the whole thing, but the rant through first 20 minutes or so). I don't agree we had to kick onsides, but other than that he's pretty spot on:

On the fumble it looks like the Bears are in max protection and still can’t contain 4 rushers

CW definitely takes an extra hitch step but he should have been totally clean there

My apologies to swift, I was wrong. He averaged 1.5 yards per carry this past game. Didn't mean to short him his yardage there. 2.0 per carry on the year so far. Superstar.

One thing that is REALLY chapping my ass though, is how the Bears have the best QB prospect in whatever, and I have to see SAM FUCKING DARNOLD lighting up the world, and then at the same time MALIK FUCKING WILLIS lighting it up? What the fuck did we do to deserve this, honestly? Did someone sell their soul for full on QB purgatory. HOW DO THEY KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH THIS?

Willis isn't going to the HOF or anything, but it's almost like they have a coach that understands his strengths and weaknesses and we have a coach running around with his thumb up his ass. Yet our OC made Geno Smith a resurgent star, so what kind of fucking taint is it at Halas Hall that turns everything it touches to shit?

I know it's way too early to give up on this team, but goddamn am I tired of this fucking ride.
