That's pretty impressive ɓy the Bills Mafia, Tua needs to retire before something really awful happens imo
McCaffrey was placed on IR. MINNEAPOLIS -- The San Francisco 49ers placed star running back Christian McCaffrey on injured reserve with calf soreness and Achilles tendinitis, the team announced Saturday. McCaffrey must miss at least the next four games -- including Sunday's matchup with the Minnesota Vikings -- and is eligible to return for an Oct. 10 meeting with the Seattle Seahawks on "Thursday Night Football," though that's not a guarantee. On Friday, San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan acknowledged for the first time since initially announcing McCaffrey's injury on Aug. 6 that injured reserve was a real possibility. That came after McCaffrey's Achilles did not respond well to limited participation in practice Thursday. "Yesterday was his worst day," Shanahan said. "It's on and off, but with yesterday having the most pain. It's something we're going to be discussing together in the next 24 hours." Those discussions ultimately led to Saturday's decision to shut McCaffrey down in hopes that the continued flare-ups in the Achilles will settle down. Shanahan has said the hardest part of McCaffrey's injury has been its unpredictability, with the running back feeling good and practicing some days and then feeling pain on others. ESPN
Wow the season just started Christian McCaffer on ir already just hope the Vikings take advantage of this
Very tough. In the context of that 1 game, that was a drive that had to end in a TD to have any hope, so that 4th down HAD to be converted. Tua will have known all this. I too watched it back a few times. FD marker is at the 9, Tua actually starts to lower his body for the dive/drive at the 9.5. I mention that cos officials are notoriously tight on spots re slides, they'll mark it the instant a player starts to give himself up. At least thats what they always did with Fields. The amount of times they would mark it 1 or even 2 yards back from where you thought watching live. Given that, and the fact this all took place in the blink of an eye, imo there's no way Tua could feel confident he would've got the marker on a slide, on what was a must-have FD. Where i totally agree with you is on the type of dive he made. If he had just dived straight for ground then Tua's own momentum would've carried him to the marker before contact. DBs normally instinctively protect their knees/ankles in that situation so he would've received no more than a touch tackle. Thats absolutely what Tua should've done. As you say, its was clearly Tua that initiated contact, not the defender. Hamlin barely had to time to brace himself, it was Tua that was trying to be the hammer. As i remember very well from my rugby days, when you go into a tackle trying to protect yourself you're often more likely to get hurt. You're more likely to be ok when committing with proper technique. I really think there was an element of this at play here, Tua tried to take Hamlin thru the contact rather than vice versa. Ultimately it was an extremely bad decision. Didn't they say this year that players are allowed to wear a type of protective bubble helmet similar to what they wear in practise? During the Titans game last week there was a Titans DL wearing like a cloth covered helmet, i assumed it was this. This is exactly what Tua should've been wearing(and anything else that could help him). Take-up of this new helmet seems to have been very slow early on, no doubt effected by perceived stigma among players. It will be interesting going forward to see how much this grows. Logic suggests it will grow cos its safer, but will player ego get in the way? And if so would it ever reach the point where mandate comes in? Could we one day see all cloth helmets due to the NFL's sensitivity to litigation? Im looking potentially a long way ahead with this, but its an interesting thought.
I could see Owners getting this done because of their multi-million dollar investment/star players being at risk, especially those with a background or history of head trauma like Tua already had. Coaches should have been all over Tua at practice teaching and remind him non-stop how to protect himself, because of his recent history. I sure hope if a mandated helmet rule is implemented, they re-design the thing to look good, not this fugly, paper-machete thing they have now... its putrid looking. If it was a 'cool' design, Id think most players would already be wearing it and there wouldnt be the possible stigma why players are not now. (first impression I had when I seen the paper- machete helmet, was Id never ever consider wearing that sacrilege looking thing). Yep, they sure can and Ive seen a few players use them in game already. Maybe with all the game changing rules that have come out recently, ie the kickoff changes, the NFL might even disallow QB's from running passed the line of scrimmage, maybe a 5-yard penalty or something? Its a crazy thought and would also be against the grain of the influx of mobile QB's lately, but nothing Goodell has done so far should surprise anybody.
Jameson Williams is expected to play against Buccaneers Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams had a big game in the team’s overtime win over the Rams in Week 1 and it looks like he’ll be able to keep things rolling against the Buccaneers on Sunday. Williams was listed as questionable to play against the Bucs because of a hamstring injury that limited him in practice all week, but multiple reports say that Williams is expected to be in the lineup for Detroit. Williams had five catches for 121 yards and a touchdown last weekend. He also ran once for 13 yards. The Lions elevated wide receivers Tom Kennedy and Tim Patrick from the practice squad on Saturday to extend their depth at the position whether Williams is active or not. PFT/Alper
Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua could miss between five to seven weeks, depending on how quickly his posterior cruciate ligament injury heals, sources told ESPN. Nacua reinjured his knee during last Sunday night's overtime loss to the Detroit Lions and was placed on injured reserve last week. Rams head coach Sean McVay said it was possible that Nacua could be sidelined the minimum of four weeks that he is required to miss by being placed on IR. The Rams have their bye in Week 6, so the earliest the second-year star could return would be Los Angeles' Week 7 home game against the Las Vegas Raiders. But according to sources, now the Rams' thinking is that Nacua's status for the games against the Raiders and the following Thursday night at home against the Minnesota Vikings also could be in jeopardy. The Rams want to make sure they're careful with Nacua and not rush him back. The team wants to do whatever is needed to ensure there are no more setbacks to the injury that Nacua initially suffered early in training camp. The Rams find themselves in a situation similar to the one they faced last year, when they opened the season without standout wide receiver Cooper Kupp, who missed the first four games due to a hamstring injury. With Kupp out, Nacua went from being a fifth-round pick out of Brigham Young to a breakout star, setting records for most receptions (105) and receiving yards (1,486) by a rookie in NFL history. ESPN
Ja'Marr Chase has no plans to negotiate a long-term deal this season with the Cincinnati Bengals, league sources told ESPN. Talks between Chase and the Bengals are off for now, and probably for the rest of the season, unless the team does something to change the situation. According to sources, the star wide receiver believes the Bengals misled him when they told him at the end of last season, and again during the offseason, he would get an extension that ultimately did not happen. To reinforce his word and strengthen his position, Chase also has taken out a $50 million insurance policy on himself for this season to safeguard against injury and any potential lost earnings. As one source said about Chase, with the insurance policy in place, "He's good." The Bengals always could try to jump-start negotiations with Chase. But Cincinnati has a long history of not negotiating deals during the season, and it is considered unlikely that will change, especially because Chase is said to have no intention of continuing contract talks and the team is focused on Sunday's game against the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. Hutch is trying to win the DPOY all in 1 game…. 5 sacks is crazy, just going out on a limb, you might want to double team him
And now we're hearing "WHO DAT" chants at ATT Stadium? Who saw that coming? My attitude about this team is changing.
