Free agent cornerback Stephon Gilmore has reached an agreement in principle with the Minnesota Vikings on a one-year deal worth up to $10 million that includes $7 million guaranteed, his agent, Jason Chayut of Sportstars Inc., told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Sunday.

The Vikings brought in Gilmore for a visit this past week, with coach Kevin O'Connell saying prior to the meeting that he had a "ton of respect" for the five-time Pro Bowler.

Jaren Hall generates perfect passer rating for Vikings

Jaren Hall had become the forgotten man on Minnesota’s quarterback depth chart. He gave everyone a reminder of his presence on Saturday in Cleveland.

Hall, a fifth-round pick from BYU in 2023, completed four of five passes for two touchdowns, 87 yards, and a perfect passer rating of 158.3.

“Days like this you just cherish forever,” Hall told reporters. “It’s a game I’ll always remember, preseason or not. Just to play and execute the simple plays that are being called. I trust in the coaches’ call. It just feels good. It’s fun to enjoy with your teammates like that.”

Making the performance more impressive is that it happened on a rainy day.

“That’s part of football,” Hall said. “At that moment, you go to the backyard and there’s days you play in the rain. That’s just part of the deal. You just try to take care of the ball, have ball security and do what you can.”

He was clearly proud, as he should be, of reaching perfection on the NFL’s formula for determining passing efficiency.

“Very few people do it,” Hall said. “It’s a preseason game, you take it with a grain of salt and do your best, but that doesn’t take away anything. There are great players out there. But when you keep it simple and you just execute, which is what we did in that last group and it just comes together.”

Hall handled four drives. One covered only eight yards for a score; the other went for 94, with a 71-yard touchdown pass to Jeshaun Jones.

Last year, Hall got the first start after Kirk Cousins was lost for the year with a torn Achilles tendon. Against the Falcons in Atlanta, Hall led the Vikings right down the field before suffering a concussion at the goal line. This year, with Cousins going and Sam Darnold arriving and J.J. McCarthy being drafted, Hall has slipped down the depth chart.

Currently, he’s No. 3, behind Darnold and Nick Mullens. After yesterday, it might be hard for the Vikings to slip Hall through waivers and add him to the practice squad. They’ll likely have to carry Darnold, Mullen, and Hall into the regular season on the 53-man roster.

IMO, they have no choice but to carry 3 QB's on the 53.

I could make a case that Hall should be QB2 over Mullens, but I'll wait, lol. If it wasnt for getting his noggin rocked last season, who knows what might have been. He certainly deserves a chance.

KOC is pretty high on Mullens so Im still thinking maybe they carry all 3, but there is a new rule that was implemented last year, if I recall correctly, that would allow Hall to be brought up if one of the 2 QB's on the roster become injured. Im not certain how that works, but Im sure they will make the right decision. The Vikings really need a healthy, over-performing Darnold and none of this would matter.

  13. Badd_Man1 M.V.P. Vikings

Oh no if KOC IS pretty high on Mullens it doesn't look good for Jaren Hall Nick Mullens (Brett Farve wannabe) he doesn't have much of a touch he's more of gunslinger hit and miss

Vikings rookie Levi Drake Rodriguez continues to shine in preseason action

Seventh-round picks don't typically contribute much as rookies. Vikings defensive tackle Levi Drake Rodriguez looks like he might be one of the exceptions to that norm.

Rodriguez made his presence felt in the middle of Minnesota's defensive line during Saturday's preseason victory against the Browns. He played hard, he played with power, and he was able to shed blocks. Across 30 snaps in Cleveland, he had two run stops and a quarterback hit. That came one week after he recorded a sack in the preseason opener against the Raiders.

"Would bet good (money) that Vikings 7th round DT Levi Drake Rodriguez has a long career in the NFL," CBS Sports draft analyst Mike Renner posted on X/Twitter, along with a cut-up of highlights from the Browns game as well as his sack against the Raiders. "Can't teach this kind of effort and violence."

The Vikings' scouting staff discovered Rodriguez at FCS school Texas A&M Commerce, they brought him in for a visit, and GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah was sold enough to draft him with the 232nd overall pick in April.

Even before he ever took the field for the Vikings, there was some buzz surrounding Rodriguez as a prospect. He was named by a prominent analyst as one of the best picks of the seventh round and labeled a "potential sleeper." His unusual journey, notorious work ethic, and lively personality have already made him a fan favorite in Minnesota this offseason.

Most importantly, Rodriguez is proving that he can play. He was a wrecking ball in college (admittedly against lesser competition) and has carried some of that over to his first two NFL preseason games. He plays with violent hands and a motor that never stops running.

Rodriguez seems to be basically a lock to make the 53-man roster. At this point, the better question might be how much he'll see the field as a rookie. In a wide-open Vikings defensive tackle room, he's competing with the likes of Jonah Williams and Jaquelin Roy for a spot in the rotation with Harrison Phillips, Jonathan Bullard, and Jerry Tillery.

Keep an eye on No. 50 moving forward. He might be quite a bit more than an ordinary seventh-rounder.

Injury updates on Vikings' T.J. Hockenson, Jordan Addison

If Sam Darnold is going to succeed, he's going to need a full complement of weapons. Justin Jefferson is healthy, but the Vikings' next two top receiving options — tight end T.J. Hockenson and wide receiver Jordan Addison — are recovering from injuries.

Hockenson is approaching eight months since suffering a torn ACL and meniscus in his right knee and he remains on the physically unable to perform list. Addison sprained his left ankle during last week's joint practices with the Browns. How much longer will they be out?

According to KSTP's Darren Wolfson, Hockenson has "looked a little hesitant at times" when he's seen him working out on the side fields at TCO Performance Center in Eagan, whereas he's optimistic that Addison will be ready to go for the Sep. 8 opener against New York.

"Looked a little hesitant at times, a little bit more so than a week or two ago," said Wolfson, talking about Hockenson Monday during a guest appearance on SKOR North. "I think bottom line on Hockenson, after the bye, does that mean like late October, early November? It's still going to be a bit on T.J. Hockenson, so you want Jordan Addison back as soon as possible. But we're dealing with a pretty significant ankle sprain that is going to set him back for at least another week to two weeks."

The Vikings have not publicized a timeline for Hockenson, so everything is speculation. That said, the bye arrives in Week 6, which could put Hockenson's return in line for the Oct. 20 showdown with his former team, the Detroit Lions, in Minneapolis.

"I think [Addison will] be back practicing the Wednesday of Giants week," Wolfson added, "but I don't know if the ankle is going to be 100% in that moment. This type of ankle injury takes multiple weeks to truly recover from."

The Vikings haven't announced what kind of ankle injury Addison has, but Wolfson suggested that those who believe he suffered a high ankle sprain are on the right track.

With Hockenson still out and Robert Tonyan not practicing because of back spasms, the Vikings could very well enter the regular season with Johnny Mundt, Josh Oliver and Nick Muse as their top three available tight ends.

If Addison isn't ready for the opener, the receivers behind Jefferson could be Jalen Nailor, Brandon Powell, Trishton Jackson and Trent Sherfield.

Darnold will get his top weapons eventually, but it might not be ideal for the first month or more of the season.
