So, Camp opened yesterday, a few moments later, this happened - On Wednesday, the Minnesota Vikings started training camp ahead of the 2024 season. Shortly after that, they had already suffered their first season-ending injury of the year. Cornerback Mekhi Blackmon went down early in practice and was down for a while. It turns out it was due to a torn ACL. NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero reported and confirmed the injury. Damn.
That's bad I was expecting him to have a breakout year...injury bug stay the hell away injuries can just be ǰust devastating
Ironically KOC was talking at the presser before Camp about the Camp being more intense and aggressive with some hitting, so they would be more prepared for the regular season... first thing I thought when hearing him was, uh oh, your inviting injury's. Then this happens. Maybe he tones it down a notch, lol.
The hitting that's ok for Camp but save the aggressiveness for the reg season Defensive backs are precious for the Minnesota Vikings
J.J. McCarthy: I’m focused on getting better, not when I’ll be starting The Vikings have installed Sam Darnold as their No. 1 quarterback to kick off training camp and one of the questions raised by that choice is when they’ll make the switch to first-round pick J.J. McCarthy. By trading up to take McCarthy with the 10th overall pick in April, the Vikings signaled their belief that he is their quarterback of the future. Some people may be eager for the future to be now, but McCarthy said on Friday that he’s content to work on his game and bide his time so that he will be as prepared as possible for the move into the top spot. “I feel like I’m not focused on the outcomes of each day,” McCarthy said, via Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com. “I’m just focused on learning to get better, and improve the weakness that I have with my game and learn my teammates’ strengths and try to amplify them every chance I get. We’re off to a great start so far. My ultimate goal is to get the most out of every single day. When the time comes, it comes. I’m just training every single day so that when that time does come, I’m going to be ready.” It seems more likely than not that McCarthy’s time will not come at the start of the regular season, but Darnold’s history as a starter in the NFL suggests that it might not be too long before the Vikings are ready to elevate the rookie. PFT
I'm not eager for him to start when he's comfortable and got his game tight then go for it, along as Sam Darnold doesn't sink the ship
Apparently, the WR3 position is really being grabbed by Jalen Nailor, who is catching what the QB is tossing up... the below X-post is an example. JJ McCarthy has looked ok, still making red-zone mistakes (INT's), but we all know he is going to need some time. Darnold has looked 'inconsistent' according to some 'taking-heads' covering Vikings Camp. There has been suggestions that if Darnold doesnt pick it up a notch and JJ keeps doing well, there may be a hard decision to make as to when to start JJ at QB. Im just hoping the Vikings can tread water and not foolishly rush JJ in right away... dont want him going in completely green to real NFL defenses and getting crushed.
Brandon Powell and Trishton Jackson are still going to have a say about Nailor taking the WR3 spot, but from what I gather from KOC, Nailor is the front-runner... Jalen needs to stay healthy and shake the 'injury prone' label. Ive read reports stating Nailor has bulked up and noticeably, which should serve him better.
We will see about Jalen Nairlor seems like he's always hurt or something Brandon Powell and Tristan Jackson looks like it's there fight...question how does the nerdy azz Capt Kirk keep getting paid when his Playoff record sucks I believe he has one win and no SB's not a one his net worth is 120 million dollar.. I wonder if he can take the next Falcons to the Elite Level cause the Vikings had the talent but he could never get the job done
IF, Kirk stays healthy and plays the ball to his potential, he might just reek some havoc with the 'Dirty Birds'. Certainly surrounded by talent, but part of me wants to see him eat it for bailing on the Vikings, lol.
Oh man is he really that bad this is not good to hear wasn't expecting him to set the world on fire just be decent he sucks at that oh man
If your talking about, Darnold, he hasnt been bad, JJ neither, both QB's are a little inconsistent... but its only 4 days in. I think Darnold will do just fine. He's got a good 0-line and good weapons to say the least. This is what practice is all about... learning the players, schemes and coaches, there's a lot going on and its early. lol, Im taking the glass half full approach for now, then who knows? SKOL
After the red-zone pick 6 that went viral on X, JJ straightened things out with 4 TD's on 5 try's... he'll be fine.
I don't know maybe its just me I'm having a tough time with this being inconsistent hell theÿ could have started Nick Mullens and all of his being inconsistent maybe Sam Darnold will get better hope so provre me wrong I would love it anyway Rockin My Purple Shades GO VIKINGS
I believe as it stands right now, Mullens is QB3... Im hoping we never have to use him. Im confident and I dont know why, but I believe KOC will get this offense on the right page. Im still thinking 7 or 8 wins is about it... we will see. Maybe the Vikings surprise everybody with the greatest defense of all-time and hold their opponents to 10 points/game and we win 1-point games all season long? Ok, I just woke up... I think. As far as the purple Shades ... keep rockin them, I believe mine are surgically attached.
I'm cool with 7 to eight wins there in the midst of change for KOC and Brian Flores this will be a year of tweaking smoothing out the rough edges and giving the Vikings a much needed tune-up I'm expecting a breakout year next year GO VIKINGS
The Vikings are set to add some experience to their cornerback corps. Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that they are going to sign Fabian Moreau to their 90-man roster. Moreau recorded 46 tackles, an interception, and seven passes defensed in 11 games for the Broncos last season. He opened his career with four years in Washington and spent a year each with the Falcons and Giants before moving to Denver. He has 298 tackles, seven interceptions, three forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery for his career. The Vikings lost Mekhi Blackmon for the season to a torn ACL in an early training camp practice, so Moreau will be part of the plan to flesh out the group in his absence.
Lewis Cine may not make the 53-man roster. He has a leg strain keeping him from practice. Originally, I had high hopes for him, but he's probably going to be sent packing. The Vikings are stacked at the safety position with Harrison Smith, Cam Bynum, Josh Metellus, Theo Jackson, Jay Ward and now Bobby McCain, the 10-year NFL veteran who signed with Minnesota earlier this week.
