On the Mend: T.J. Hockenson Fantasy Outlook and Injury Update T.J. Hockenson finished as the TE4 last season in PPR leagues despite missing his final two games of the season after tearing his ACL and MCL in Week 16. On a per-game basis, he finished as the TE3. No tight end saw more targets per game (8.5), and his 64 receiving yards per game were second only to Travis Kelce. Hockenson was the overall TE2 in the 2022 season despite playing for two different teams that year. T.J. Hockenson Injury Update It's important to note that Hockenson's MCL had healed before he underwent ACL surgery in January of this year. The typical recovery time for an ACL repair is 8-10 months, and while Hockenson will be under the care of top medical and physio staff, it's unlikely he will be ready to start the season. When he does return, fantasy managers should anticipate a gradual reintegration into the game. T.J. Hockenson Fantasy Outlook Hockenson's injury is only one of a few reasons to be cautious when drafting the veteran tight end. Most notably, he won't benefit from Kirk Cousins throwing him the ball this season. Instead, either Sam Darnold or rookie JJ McCarthy will be the passer. That's likely a downgrade from Hock's former QBs (Cousins, Goff, Stafford). It's hard to see either QB option for Minnesota being able to support a top-tier WR like Justin Jefferson, plus talented WR2 Jordan Addison and T.J. Hockenson. That being said, Hockenson has been a difference-maker when he is on the field and he could be a difference-maker for your fantasy team at the right cost. He is coming off the board as the TE13, and if you are willing to stream a TE for as long as the first half of the season (this can often be done successfully), he could be worth an add- especially if you can slot him into an IR spot. I would not take a top-12 TE and Hockenson. I'd rather use that draft capital somewhere else. SI _______ ________________ I sure hope he gets back sooner than later, more weapons the better, obviously.
Vikings’ Camryn Bynum: I’m confident when I say I expect us to be a Super Bowl team The betting odds says the Vikings are long shots to make the playoffs this season, but safety Camryn Bynum doesn’t see it that way. Bynum says that after looking across the field at offseason practices, he saw so much talent that he believes the Vikings are going to the Super Bowl. “I expect a Super Bowl. Everybody says that, and everybody should say that,” Bynum said on NFL Network. “But you look at the guys on the team, you look at the locker room, all the experience we have. Look how much depth we have, especially on the defense. So many guys. It’s almost weird looking around, you’re like, OK how are we all going to get on the field? There’s just so many ballers. You look at the offense. There’s a baller at every position when you look across the whole board. That’s why I’m confident when I say I expect us to be a Super Bowl team. But really, our preparation has to tell it all. You say that every year. Every team says that every year, but we have to put all these names and everything. We have to make it real.” Not many people share Bynum’s enthusiasm about this year’s Vikings. If Bynum and his teammates can back up his words, they’ll be proving a lot of people wrong. PFT __________ _____________________ Im glad Bynum is positive. Hypothetically - Defense is stout, especially with the upgrades that may stop the run. Offensively - Let's just say, JJ matures to the NFL faster than people thought. Jones in the back-field does 1000 yards. QB pumps the ball down field to Jet and Addison, batta boom Botta Bing, Vikings surprise everyone, lol. Im dreaming and Im entitled.
As good as he can be right now he's a risky pick up but take your time healing up you really are a big part of the Vikings pass game maybe Robert Tonyan can get the job done or maybe they can try to make K'Neal Harry into a TE I think that's how you spell it
I do think Tonyan should be good to tread water with till Hockenson can return safely, Oliver and Mundt add depth. At the moment they have a ton (7) of TE's on the roster... so there will be plenty of competition. I laughed when I seen the defensive linemen on the roster, they are carrying, 12 at the moment. Plenty to work out and see what happens.
At this point, nearly every Minnesota Vikings’ beat writer has raved about Darnold’s performance throughout the offseason. However, there was a new nugget released to the public by Alec Lewis (The Athletic). Apparently, Sam Darnold only threw one interception all of mandatory minicamp… and wasn’t even his fault. That might be so and if it is its impressive, but its apples to oranges when your in game action and their coming in hard n fast to rip your head off. Hopefully he surprises everybody, including me.
I just the love the new mindset they seem to have are they SB's Contenders no...Sam Darnold we will see if he can play descent cannot say he doesn't have weapons GO VIKINGS
"Decent" is all I want... and dont turn the ball over. If Darnold can just run the offense and let the stars be the stars, it might be fun.
Kevin O’Connell saw “real growth” from Jordan Addison this offseason Most of the attention being paid to wide receivers in Minnesota this offseason was directed toward Justin Jefferson and that makes sense given the importance of getting his contract extension done. While Jefferson was away from the team hammering out a deal, there was another member of the receiving corps going through workouts. 2023 first-round pick Jordan Addison had 70 catches for 911 yards and 10 touchdowns as a rookie and head coach Kevin O’Connell said that he’s seen steady improvement from Addison as he moves into his second season. “Jordan Addison had as good of an offseason program as really you can ask for,” O’Connell said, via Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com. "[He is] a guy that had a ton of success in Year One. And really, from a standpoint of getting a little stronger, getting a little bit more comfortable playing through contact and still playing with that great burst and transition that he has, you saw some real growth there.” Addison played without Jefferson for a big chunk of last season because of the elder wideout’s hamstring injury, so the prospect of teaming them for a full run is an appetizing one in Minnesota. The same could be said of an upgrade on their post-Kirk Cousins quarterback play from last season, although it remains to be seen if Sam Darnold or J.J. McCarthy is going to be tasked with trying to provide it. PFT/Josh Alper
That's the one million dollar question if Sam Darnold or JJ McCarthy can get the job done? one thing I do know Capt Kirk can throw a beautiful ball,I just wonder what kind of an effect it will have on him with Capt Kirk gone but I expect him to be good to go so I'm not worried
Vikings' Blake Cashman can't wait to see J.J. McCarthy's growth: 'He's gonna be a great player' Blake Cashman has seen both ends of the rookie quarterback spectrum in his young NFL career. The Minnesota Vikings' new linebacker was a member of the New York Jets when Zach Wilson struggled through a trying first season in 2021. But Cashman also just spent last year with the Texans, witness to the magic of C.J. Stroud in a brilliant rookie campaign. So when Cashman had some pretty glowing respect for Vikings rookie QB J.J. McCarthy recently, it came from someone who knows firsthand what he's talking about. "[He's] 21 years old, but a great young man," Cashman said on *The Jim Rome Show*. "He's a leader. He's eager to learn. "A lot of young guys, sometimes they can come in, be a little timid or shy, but he's walking around the locker room, big smile on his face, shaking hands, getting to know everybody." That's certainly a quality start for McCarthy, who earned a reputation as a smart, tough, competitive quarterback at Michigan, where he led the Wolverines to two playoff appearances the past two seasons, including a national championship in January. The Vikings traded up to pick McCarthy No. 10 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. He's expected to compete with vet Sam Darnold for the starting job, with head coach Kevin O'Connell saying he's hoping for a "competitive environment" in a training camp battle where none of Minnesota's quarterbacks have been promised anything yet. Cashman admits that he's only received a snapshot of McCarthy's talent so far at minicamps and organized team activities ahead of training camp, but what he's seen to this point -- including and especially McCarthy's arm talent -- has impressed him. "I didn't know much about his game before," Cashman said. "I knew he was an outstanding quarterback. Winning followed him at Michigan. But I didn't realize how much heat he can put on the ball. "He's got a great long ball. And even those tight windows, where it closes fast at the next level, he can zip the ball past a linebacker or safety's head and squeeze it in those tight windows. That's very promising to see." Predicting greatness for a rookie QB prior to taking any significant snaps can be risky business. Wilson was a fast riser through the draft process and was branded a possible star in the Patrick Mahomes role. That has yet to materialize, with Wilson now on his second NFL team. Meanwhile, there were questions about Stroud even though he was drafted No. 2 overall, cloaked by a low score on the S2 cognitive test designed to measure how quickly a QB can process information. All he did was turn in one of the great all-time seasons by a rookie quarterback. Nonetheless, Cashman didn't limp in with his forecast for greatness with McCarthy, early as it might be. "He's gonna be a great player for a long time, and I can't wait to continue to see his growth," Cashman said. "Not only as a quarterback with his skills, but also becoming an even smarter player." Take your time and ɓe the best you can̈ be got my fingers crossed that everything works out,oh I read this espn is displeased with the Vikings young guns whatever the hell that means laughing i really could care less think I just clicked some dumb ass click bait
Justin Jefferson: J.J. McCarthy wants to learn how to become a problem in the NFL Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson’s Tuesday visit to The Rich Eisen Show featured discussions about former quarterbacks and future ones. Jefferson said he wasn’t too surprised that Kirk Cousins wound up leaving the team for the Falcons as a free agent and that he is “grateful for what he has brought to me” over the last four years. Jefferson then moved on to talking about the team’s current quarterbacks. Sam Darnold is going into training camp ahead of J.J. McCarthy on the depth chart, but McCarthy was a first-round pick and that means there are high expectations for what he’ll do in the long run. Jefferson said that the Vikings put McCarthy’s locker next to his and that he’s taken on the responsibility that comes with that placement. “They want me to be that guy that J.J. can always talk to and ask questions,” Jefferson said. “He’s definitely that type of kid. He definitely wants to ask questions. He wants to learn how to be a top quarterback. He wants to learn how to become a problem in this league.” Jefferson said he’s told McCarthy not to worry about expectations and “carry yourself with confidence,” which is likely a good deal easier when you know Jefferson will be on the receiving end of your passes. Analyst says Vikings have best wide receiver duo in NFL Do the Vikings have the best wide receiver duo in football? NFL Network’s Stacey Dales thinks so. Dales said on NFL Network that she’s itching to see Jordan Addison play football, hearing he’s had an incredible offseason. Addison is the clear No. 2 receiver for the Vikings alongside Justin Jefferson, and the duo certainly can make the case they’re among the NFL’s best tag teams. “Could this be the best wide receiver duo in the National Football League between these two? (Addison) had 10 receiving touchdowns to lead all rookie receivers last season,” Dales said. “He had four different quarterbacks in the process and a stretch in which Justin Jefferson was injured. … This young man could have a whopping sophomore season in the NFL.” Addison hauled in 70 passes for 911 yards and 10 touchdowns in his rookie campaign, already impressive as a No. 2 option but even more so considering the injury to Kirk Cousins. Jefferson, meanwhile, had 68 catches for 1,074 yards and five touchdowns despite missing seven games. Jefferson will return healthy and with a new contract while Addison will bring a year of experience to the table this fall. The duo will have to face some uncertainty at quarterback with journeyman Sam Darnold and rookie J.J. McCarthy competing for the starting job something Dales acknowledged. Signs so far would indicate that Darnold will be under center when the Vikings kick off their season with a Week 1 matchup against the New York Giants on Sept. 8, but McCarthy is still in contention for the starting position. While it's not yet clear who will be starting for the Vikings in that Week 1 matchup, one thing is abundantly clear: whoever it is will have some top-tier receiving weapons. “Sam Darnold has walked into a pretty nice situation with Kevin O’Connell and this offense,” Dales said. YARDBARKER ________ _______________________ Addison's 10 TD's as a rookie was the NFL's best and he did it with having 4 different QB's... that says something. Having 2 WR's that you throw it up and they bring it down is very powerful. If Darnold has a better than average year, which he could possibly do, these Vikings might be a tad better than some think. This Vikings team is projected to win about 6 or 7 games, but maybe they pull a few rabbits out of their helmets.
