I honestly didnt think Minnesota would this. I thought a 'low ball' contract would be offered. Now I see why this took some time.

WR are going to get 40 million next offseason if one doesn’t get it this time. The NFL was lagging way behind in salary compared to The NBA and MLB. I think they are doing all they can to catch up. The players getting paid a lot more doesn’t make the game better, as it matter of fact the game suffers from the salaries getting higher. I don’t think the players even care much about championships anymore, just what they could bank. The love for the game is disappearing from the players hearts.

I don't know that the drive is gone just watch guys like Mahomes, Allen, Kelce, Jackson, Jones, and Watt and tell me they don't care about winning. I do however think (and I said this a few years ago) that a lot of career records are going to be safe because players will not play as long. Sure, there will be exceptions but overall, I see guys getting their money and getting out.

You have WRs watching a fumble roll right next to him and other ones that won’t block on goal line runs when your team desperately needs a TD to get back in the game. Players that pout and want to be traded. Most players are more concerned about their personal stats than the team winning.

Free agent TE Logan Thomas gets one-year deal with 49ers

Word earlier tonight was free agent tight end Logan Thomas was close to a deal with the 49ers. The deal now is done.

Nick Wagoner of ESPN reports Thomas will sign a one-year deal with the team.

Thomas will backup George Kittle in the role Charlie Woerner held before he left for the Falcons in free agent.

Thomas began his NFL career as a quarterback with the Cardinals as fourth-round pick in 2014. He eventually moved to tight end and has played the position with the Bills, Lions and Commanders, totaling 219 receptions for 2,002 yards and 16 touchdowns in his career.

In 2023, Thomas made 55 receptions for 496 yards and four touchdowns in 16 games with Washington.

The lagging salaries behind the MLB and NBA are relative.. A) the CBA dictates what the NFL can pay overall. The GMs are getting creative and they are able to pay more and more with higher caps implemented. B) However, the (3) sports are totally different in structure. All (3) leagues pay per game, however the NFL has 17 games ( 4 month regular season and 4 week post season, 5 months total), NBA has 82 games ( 6 month regular season and 2 month post season, 8 months total) and the MLB has 161 games (6 month regular season and 4-5 week post season, 7 months total).

From training camp until Super Bowl, late July to 1st week of February, the NFL has a much longer off season than other pro sports. The majority of teams are off from the beginning of January till 3rd/4th week of July. about 6 1/2 months. MLB has an off season that lasts from about first week of October until last week of February or about 4 1/2 months off and the NBA off for half the league (remember 20 of the 30 teams are eligible for the playoffs with at the very least the play in game), they get about 5 months off. The NBA is different in that they start practicing the first week of October, have preseason games the 2nd week of October and start their season the 3rd week of October. They don't gear up for the season like the other leagues do.

So despite the other leagues being less dangerous on a per play basis, they certainly ask more from their players in terms of public access/opportunities for revenue.

Inside the new Christian McCaffrey deal

49ers running back Christian McCaffrey had two years left on the contract he signed four years ago in Carolina. The 49ers have now ripped up the deal, replacing it with a new four-year contract.

The deal has a new-money average of $19 million per year, pushing the prior high-water mark at the position from $16 million.

Here are the full details, per a source with knowledge of its terms:

    1. Signing bonus: $14.29 million.

    2. 2024 base salary: $1.21 million.

    3. 2024 per-game roster bonus: $500,000 total.

    4. 2025 option bonus: $14.245, $8.5 million of which is fully guaranteed at signing and is due to be paid on April 1.

    5. 2025 base salary: $1.255 million.

    6. 2025 per-game roster bonus: $500,000 total.

    7. 2025 offseason workout bonus: $200,000.

    8. 2026 option bonus: $10.55 million.

    7. 2026 base salary: $1.3 million.

    8. 2026 per-game roster bonus: $500,000 total.

    9. 2026 offseason workout bonus: $150,000.

    10. 2027 base salary: $16.85 million.

    11. 2027 per-game roster bonus: $500,000 total.

    12. 2027 offseason workout bonus: $150,000.

In all, it’s a four-year, $62.2 million contract. The average from signing is $15.55 million.

He had $24.2 million left on his current contract. The $38 million in new money pushed the average to $19 million.

McCaffrey previously had no guarantees. He now has $24 million in full guarantees.

For a running back who turns 28 in three days, it’s a great deal — especially since it’s scraping $20 million when most high-end running backs are struggling to get into eight figures at all.

Eagles move James Bradberry to safety

The Eagles selected cornerbacks with their first two draft picks, making it clear James Bradberry wasn’t in their plans at corner. The team, though, hasn’t given up on Bradberry having a role.

Eagles coach Nick Sirianni announced Tuesday that the Eagles are moving Bradberry to safety, a position Bradberry has never played.

“He was able to do a couple different things last year,” Sirianni said, via Martin Frank of the Delaware News Journal. “He played the majority of his career at corner and then was able to do some things at the dime, some things at the nickel, some things at the corner.

“Now he’s working some of the safety stuff. I’m excited about that, and his opportunity. You’ve seen a lot of good corners in this league [make the switch]. I guess the first guy that comes to mind is Charles Woodson. He went from elite corner to being an elite nickel to being an elite safety.”

Bradberry, 30, earned All-Pro honors at corner in 2022, and the Eagles signed him to a three-year, $38 million deal in March 2023. If not for the contract, which includes $20 million in guarantees, the Eagles likely would have cut Bradberry after the dropoff he had in 2023.

But the Eagles do need depth behind safety starters Reed Blankenship and CJ Gardner-Johnson. Sydney Brown, the team’s third-round pick in 2023, is working his way back from a torn ACL.

Mekhi Garner, Tristin McCollum and Andre Sam are others on the roster at the position, and veteran nickel corner Avonte Maddox has cross-trained at safety.

“James has always been a team guy from the moment he stepped in here,” Sirianni said. “He’ll do anything for his teammates.”

Bradberry didn’t make it through all of the first mandatory minicamp practice Tuesday, leaving after a fall in an individual drill. It is unknown what the injury is or the severity, per Frank.

Micah Parsons willing to wait turn but expects to be highest-paid non-QB in due time

Micah Parsons made it clear Tuesday that skipping the voluntary offseason program, including organized team activities, had nothing to do with his contract. He said he wanted to let his body heal and has his own way of doing things in the offseason.

Yes, he wants a contract extension, but the Cowboys edge rusher also knows where he stands in the pecking order.

Parsons has two years left on his rookie deal, including the fifth-year option, while quarterback Dak Prescott and receiver CeeDee Lamb are entering the final year of their contracts.

“I’m patient. Patient is a virtue,” Parsons said, via Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “I’m waiting my turn. Let CeeDee go get whatever. Let Dak get whatever.”

With a $2.989 million base salary this season, Parsons is one of the most underpaid players in the NFL. The All-Pro has become one of the top defensive players in the NFL, and eventually, the Cowboys will pay him like it.

This week, Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson became the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history with an annual average of $35 million.

Parsons said he expects to reset the market, topping Jefferson’s per year average.

    “I mean, yeah,” he said.

The Cowboys currently are in a financial crunch with Prescott and Lamb expected to receive top-of-the-market deals at their positions. Lamb is holding out of the mandatory minicamp as he seeks his money sooner than later.

The Cowboys currently have around $12 million in cap space.

“I kind of know where the money is,” Parsons said. “It’s not like I see the Cowboys with $90 million in cap space.”

He also knows by waiting, his price is only going to go up, and the Cowboys have a bad habit of waiting too long to extend the contracts of their best players. They are going to do it with Parsons, too.

“This market is going to just jump up, and the cap goes up again next year,” Parsons said. “They’re talking about these contracts might for a high-caliber player might be up to $40 million by then.”

My initial reaction to Parsons, is dream on. Sure he had 14 sacks last season, but that only tied him for 7th in the NFL. In 2021 he had 64 solo tackles, in 22 he had 42, in 23 he had 36 (the last 2 seasons with the added game 17) ... looks like a decline to me. These contracts may get out of control if they already havnt. Everybody thinks they are entitled to what john doe gets. Also, he's a defensive player who has never scored a point in the NFL. (neither did Bosa)

Is what Jefferson makes at WR comparable to a LB? Is Parsons, Bosa 2.0?... maybe he can be, but it just seems odd that as soon as the bar gets raised, players come out of the woodwork and want more pie too. Nature of the beast I guess, but if i own a football team, Im not paying someone the top, non-QB money in the League when he isnt putting points on the board. Might be harsh on my part, or even way off base, its just how I feel at the moment. Where do you draw the line anyway? Cee Dee Lambs numbers are comparable to Jefferson also, so maybe he gets paid more than Jefferson, then Parsons can one up him, lol.

Too much can be made of stats on defense. Micah Parsons is the best defensive player in the league right now. Teams scheme away from him. He burst onto the scene his rookie year and teams took notice. The decline in numbers is representative of that. If any player or coach in the NFL are asked to name 5 defensive players they don't want to face, his name is at the top of that list.
