If the Vikings are out of the QB race if Marvin Harrison Jr is there draft him and draft a QB next year and every year, then go all defense especially the D-line and some linebackers if they move up it will be costly for the Vikings to get a QB

Do the Vikings need a QB yeah but how much are they willing pay how many first rounds picks will it take for Jayden Daniel or Drake Maye whoever they draft they better not miss

Kevin O’Connell: Sam Darnold’s best football is ahead of him

At the moment, Sam Darnold is atop the Vikings’ quarterback depth chart. A month from now that might not be the case, if the Vikings draft their quarterback of the future, but head coach Kevin O’Connell says he’s confident that Darnold could lead his team.

O’Connell says Darnold has grown as a quarterback both toward the end of his tenure in Carolina and last year playing for Kyle Shanahan in San Francisco, and the Vikings expect Darnold to play well for them in 2024.

“I think his best football is ahead of him because of how he’s handled the last couple of years,” O’Connell said on NFL Network. “Whether it’s going 4-2 down the stretch in Carolina in ’22, or when you turn on the tape of his work in San Francisco, you can tell Kyle, Brian Griese, they did a great job in the next phase of his career. Fundamentals, techniques, things that you look for to see growth. I’m excited to get going with Sam.”

The Vikings invested a one-year, $10 million contract in Darnold, which indicates that they think he can be a competent bridge quarterback this season. It’s hard to believe Darnold will be in the Vikings’ long-term plans, but for this year, O’Connell likes what he brings to the quarterback room.

The Vikings are hosting several prospects for a pre-draft visit on Monday, including one of the top defensive players in the class.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports former Texas defensive tackle Byron Murphy II is on a top-30 trip to see the club, which holds the No. 11 overall pick.

Murphy was named the Big 12 defensive lineman of the year in 2023. He recorded 5.0 sacks along with 8.5 tackles for loss in 14 games for the Longhorns, helping the club advance to a CFP Semifinal game.

He also scored two offensive touchdowns in 2023 — a 1-yard catch against Wyoming and a 1-yard run against Washington in the Sugar Bowl.

Because the Vikings lost Kirk Cousins in free agency and subsequently acquired the No. 23 overall pick from the Texans, the general thought is Minnesota is looking to trade up to draft a quarterback. But if the Vikings stay at No. 11, Murphy could be an option.

That choice would also give the Vikings two players named Byron Murphy, as the club signed cornerback Byron Murphy Jr. to a two-year deal last March.

Former LSU offensive lineman Charles Turner III and former Tennessee tight end McCallan Castles are also visiting with Minnesota on Monday, per NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero.

If they stay at 11 and 23 just draft defensive and offensive line depth looking like for Vikings to move up for a QB will be costly if do they better not miss, and be danm sure the Vikings can not afford to lose here Kwesi-Adofo-Mensah your job might be on line

 

I've been wondering this for some time now is Kwesi-Adofo-Mensah trying force Justin Jefferson to ask for a trade?

 

No reason not to sign him. The longer Kwesi waits, the more likely JJ is going to get traded somewhere pre or during the draft (so some say). Pisses me off he wasnt signed a long time ago... there is no reason to wait imo.

The Minnesota Vikings landed J.J. McCarthy and Dallas Turner in round 1. IMO, it couldnt have gone any better considering the options. Year after year the Vikings would trade DOWN, this year, Kwesi trades UP and snags the best guys for the team and the BPA to boot. I love what Kwesi did.

 

Well I have to admit Kwesi-Adofo-Mensah did very well liked the trading up Vikings got a QB JJ McCarthy just seems like a KOC guy,and Brian Flores got a Defensive End Dallas Turner it.was a good night for the Vikings imo
