Round 1, pick #3 Under much duress, thought and consideration, research and a rabbits foot... The MINNESOTA VIKINGS select; QB, DRAKE MAYE - UNC
@Campbell - Arizona OTC @Dcat - Chargers on deck And you both have an open trade offer from the Bills - go back a page to see it.
Not much of a surprise to pick Maye, but many variables were involved. I like McCarthy and Maye just about equally. Had to consider the Vikings direction of their offense. Maye can drop back and fire the ball with decent arm strength and accuracy. McCarthy would or will be the pocket guy with arm strength and accuracy. I leaned towards Maye as in my research he has been scouted by the Vikings for years and even QB Coach Josh McCowen coach Maye in high school. Maye just seemed to be the better fit for an offense that has weapons like Jefferson, Adison and Hockenson (my 3 sons, lol). Mayes last season for the Tar-Heels was a bit short of his previous time in Carolina, but he had offensive injuries to deal with and Minnesota's lack of a Grade-A, star RB right now made me think a 'playmaker' might be more advantageous than the pocket guy who would need a true ground game to work with him. Over and over the course of the last month or so, a ton of people that do these draft things professionally or ex-pros with an opinion seemed divided 50/50 on who the better fit would be in Minnesota. I could'nt really get a grip on what to think. The trade up was expensive, but in my opinion if the real Vikings dont do something similar they wont land their guy at 11 (top 4 or 5 QB's will be gone by then) and they'll miss out on the potential future, so the price and risk was necessary. Thats my story and Im sticking to it.
yeah I see it. I'm more used to trade offers via PM... much more likely to miss it in the morass. I'll be more careful then. The Chargers are willing to trade pk 5... but not down as far as 28. Send your offers. Otherwise I'm ready with my pick right now.
My apologies for not following the directive. Is it true you would like the trade chatter right here in this thread and not via PM's? Asking for a friend.
I’m gonna keep being easy going for years and years so I can throw an absolute fit over something minor sometime and shock everyone.
Weird... the spreadsheet is updated, and in the actual spreadsheet shows McCarthy as the #4 pick... but the embedded version doesn't show McCarthy on the page for round 1 even though it's updated on the trades tab, reference tab AND the Big Board. Give it time, I guess...
No Willie. Chat about trades anywhere you want. PM makes the most sense. But once two teams have agreed on a trade, absolutely post it in here.
This has been fun so far. Some minor surprises. Bit jealous of the teams getting nice hauls to move back. But I guess you earn that opportunity through pure underachievement. So maybe I’d rather be us.
Admittedly I was hoping you would go the other way. I think Maye is the Giants guy through and through. And while I committed to taking a QB this time around I felt good enough about McCarthy I was comfortable making this move either way.
This is a great deal for the Giants I believe. I can see what both teams are doing. But to move up for the future of your franchise and come away with MORE picks. Good deal. You lost an enticing 2nd. But you can do some damage in that 3.20-4.10 range. Well done. And barring any more trade backs, I’m guessing Tim is comfortable just hitting 4 impact players for the Cards inside the top 50 of this draft. They already have a QB and franchise LT presumably, so he could put a beautiful core in place.
Also noteworthy... we had QBs go with the top four picks in both mocks, and we had 8 different GMs (and different teams at #3 and #4) making the picks.
Trade: Cincinnati sends Picks 1.18, 2.49, Tee Higgins, and a 2025 3rd round pick to LA Chargers for pick 1.5 that would put @matthewwillson29 OTC when confirmed.
