I didn't mean to take it down to the wire like that.. I'm at work and it seems like everyone knows I'm doing a mock draft because my door has been revolving for the last 4 hours.
I went to a place in upstate SC for the 2017 eclipse. Traffic was bad getting there, but the real nightmare was getting back after it was over. Glad I saw it though. I'm not close enough to the path to get a real show for this one. Here's the pic I took just as the sun emerged...
I'll try to get a pic to put on, we are right in line for totality. It's supposed to be complete darkness for close to 3 whole minutes, lol Edit: thus far NOOO traffic at all. The local police made everyone panic for nothing. We still have roughly 2 1/2 hours until the acual totality event, but it's supposed to start in about 45 minutes.
That's about what I had in 2017. I was dead center on the line. This one has longer duration if you're right on the line. But 2+ minutes is pretty awesome. It doesn't sound like much, but you'll appreciate it when it happens. Hearing the cicadas and other creatures reacting to the "night" was surreal.
For those our you outside the viewing zone -- I work for the people that manage space telescopes for NSF and NASA. They are doing a special viewing broadcast with science and crap if anyone is interested. Starts in about an hour.
Funny thing with my pics was that I had a good camera that I set up on a tripod. In the end the pics sucked. I think the camera was trying to auto compensate and give me "good" lighting. The pics that I posted came from a really old, lower end digital camera that I took with me as a backup - lower resolution, no sound if you take movies, uses xD cards, etc. But every now and then it comes up with some stunning pictures, like that one.
I'm also in a mad scramble to get a work file out the door in the next hour. Then I'll be able to enjoy the partial eclipse and post my next draft pick...
