I think I've got one less 2024 pick than I started the draft with. I gained a 4th early then traded that and my original one away to trade up later.
Also I took a big drop in the 1st from the #4 pick. I got lucky with Latu since he was who I was eying when I made that 1st trade. I only made that 2nd trade with the Jags because it was too good to pass up and there were acceptable alternatives left that should have made it to my eventual pick.
Colts already sacrificed a lot moving up in round 1. And the Bills are simply too far away. Giants come through with a surprise developmental QB in round 3. Aiming for 2025 I'm assuming. But things happen...
Yeah - thinking long term with Rattler. I went into this draft knowing I would only trade up for Maye or Williams. Williams I knew was off the table but the WFT could have gone with Daniels in which case I would have done everything I could to slide up. I assumed the trade up for McCarthy was coming but I didn't really want to make that move. I did a LOT of cost benefit on trying to get Nix or Penix and I even reached out to a few teams about trying to move back in the first but ultimately there was no interest. So I decided to try and help Jones/Lock as much as possible instead and went with the big bodied X receiver. I fully expect Waller to announce his retirement but think the Giants have asked him to wait until after the draft at this point. So TE is a quiet need for them and after trading back that seemed like the value move to me in that spot. Rattler is the only "not first round" QB I like with a chance of developing into a plus NFL level starter. He's not really big or athletic but he was considered a #1 overall quality prospect at one point for a reason. He still has arm talent and he has gotten a HELL of a lot better at progressing reads and pocket presence. I figure in this spot I am getting a cheap quality back up at minimum but also a guy that Daboll might be interested in working with. I keep thinking of what he was able to do for Tommy Devito (who had a weird 15 minutes of fame despite still not being very good) and thinking if he can do that for someone without NFL talent... what can he do with a guy like Rattler... It's worth a flyer at this point. Jones is likely gone after this year, Lock is only on a one year deal -- they have to address the position at some point. And the Giants seem to like guys who "had to earn it" or "came through adversity" along the way. Rattler got knocked down a few pegs and went to a school where he had to do it the hard way to grow as a QB. John Mara eats that crap up with the silver spoon that he was born with.
