2024 Free Agency

Free agency in the offseason will have an open window that begins on February 14th at 12am and ends on April 19th at 11:59pm (no new opening bids).

All remaining open bids will continue to be processed under normal rules until closed out. Any bids that have not been successfully closed will remain open for as long as is necessary to close them out.

Owners may make bids on any number of players, up to their open availability on their roster - meaning, if you have 11 open bench spots you may bid on up to 11 players. If any owner makes an offer to a player and no one else counters that offer the owner CANNOT RESCIND THE OFFER SHEET. Once offers are made they can only be closed out by the contract being signed by the player. Bids remain open for a window that comprises of the following days operational hours, which are from 8am to 11:59pm, Eastern Standard time. If no other bid has been received, the player signs the highest bid.

    EXAMPLE 1:
Team A bids on WR Jon Smith of the Frankfurt Galaxy on Monday at 1pm. No other contract offers are made to Jon Smith by Tuesday night, 11:59pm. Jon Smith signs with Team A.

    EXAMPLE 2:
Team A bids on QB Bob Robertson of the Barcelona Dragons on Monday at 1pm. Team B makes a higher bid on QB Bob Robertson of the Barcelona Dragons on Tuesday at 11pm. Team A makes a higher bid on QB Bob Robertson of the Barcelona Dragons on Wednesday at 9am. On Thursday at 11:59pm, after receiving no new offers, QB Bob Robertson of the Barcelona Dragons signs with team A.

Highest bids are determined by a combination of yearly salary and length of contract. A contract offer of two years is worth more than a one-year salary offer. A 3-year contract offer is worth than a 2-year contract offer and would then also be worth more than a 1-year contract offer. In the event that two bids are worth an equal amount, the deal with the most years is considered the highest offer. 3 years is the longest available contract for managers to offer.

All players that are not currently signed are eligible for free agency (excluding the incoming rookie class).

Owners may sign any number of players until they have filled the current offseason roster maximum of 35.

All bids on contract with a price tag of $4,999,000 or less must have each additional increase be no less than 1 year or $100,000.

All bids on contracts with a price tag of $5,000,000 or more must have each additional increase be no less than 1 year or $500,000.

    EXAMPLE 1:
Team A makes an offer to QB Joe Doesitall of the Stuttgart Surge for 1 year at $1,000,000. In order to beat Team A's offer, Team B would need to make an offer of either 2 or 3 years for the same $1,000,000 or offer 1 or more years for at least $1,100,000.

    EXAMPLE 2:
Team A makes an offer to RB Polka Fumbleski of the Wroclaw Panthers for 1 year at $5,000,000. In order for Team B to have a better offer tabled, they would need to either offer 2 or 3 years for the same $5,000,000 or offer 1 or more years for at least $5,500,000.

Quick tip to stay organized and ahead of your own bids -

Set a daily repeating reminder on your phone for a time of day that you will have at least 15 minutes to check and see if your bid is still the highest offer. It's the easiest way to make sure you are not forgetting to stay on top of your own business.

Bids should be made in a common format for everyone to easily understand:

    YOUR TEAM NAME
Position, Player Name - Team: Money - Years

    EXAMPLE:

    WOLVES
    RB, Bo Jackson - OAK: $10,000,000 - 3

    Questions (may be dumb):

    1. If you fill all of your bench spots in free agency, then we have the rookie draft, do you still draft all of your rounds?
    2. If so, new contracts will be applied to those drafted. When rosters are cut down, is there a $$ cut penalty?
    3. Also, looking ahead, will all players be able to draft (rookies + unsigned free agents)? ...and will first two rookies automatically get 2yr. contracts (like the initial draft)?

Just want to clarify for strategy purposes....

All good questions, and thanks for asking.

Yep. We will expand rosters to accommodate the incoming rookies. Also, with that expansion, when normal blind bid free agency kicks off their will be additional bench spots available for owners to fill. Think of it as a UDFA opportunity post-draft. It gives us the necessary spots for owners to hit the max number of draft picks plus a few roster spots for UDFAs, and for the owners that may trade away several picks, the opportunity to add to the bench post-draft will still exist.

To break this question down fully -
Post-draft, there will be a shortened window for owners to declare whether or not they intend to sign any, all or even none of their draft picks. Once that decision is made, the normal contract procedure is in place. When rounds of roster cuts are applied in the offseason, there will be an offsetting instrument to lessen the cap hit to owners, being that this is a forced cut. However, there will still be some dead money applied on any contract that is terminated/traded.

On the last part - Basically, because there is a contract involved for a signed player, there cannot be any situation where we can release a player without there being some kind of penalty, other than those that have been placed on the PS during the regular season. For the offseason specifically, forced cuts are a necessary tool to bring rosters back to a reasonable working number, so giving owners the opportunity to make cuts/trades with a limited penalty keeps us from limiting managers participating in offseason free agency.

EDIT: I also forgot - Our roster minimum does not change throughout the offseason, meaning you can carry as few as 30.

This means a manager could go through the entire offseason free agency period without signing a player, decline to sign any of their draft picks and fill out their roster to hit the 30 minimum with UDFA pick ups and still be in compliance to start the post draft offseason.

I have it posted either on a spreadsheet or somewhere in one of the rules threads, but I will update the rules book to make sure this is confirmed for everyone:

All rookies drafted in rounds 1 and 2 receive three-year deals.

All rookies drafted in rounds 3 through 7 receive two-year deals.

Rookie wage scale for 2024 -
    • Round 1 - $5,940.000
    • Round 2 - $5,400,000
    • Round 3 - $4,860,000
    • Round 4 - $4,320,000
    • Round 5 - $3,780,000
    • Round 6 - $3,240,000
    • Round 7 - $2,700,000

I'm checked in, if that's really a thing. And I believe I can speak for @Silver&black as well. He's loaded and ready. We've been texting about details all morning.

I hold five picks within the first 25. If anyone is interested, we can start talking at any point.

It is, because we had one manager that did not show up to handle their own business.

We're going to need everyone to post to make sure they have access to the thread/rules and regs in order to make sure no one is getting left behind.

I had a question on roster minimums/maximums during the offseason period -

35 is the maximum that anyone can have signed during the FA period, but they do not have to sign anyone right now, if they choose not to.

The minimum for the roster has not changed (30) but that number will not be enforced until after the draft. Hypothecially, you could go from now until after our draft without taking on a single new contract and not be out of compliance. Only after the draft when the UDFA period opens would you be forced to go up to the minimum of 30.

The league calendar helps to breakdown how we cycle down to the roster max -

Monday, July 15th (11:59) - First Cutdown Deadline

Rosters must be at the maximum of 45 players (IR not included)

Monday, August 12st (11:59) - Second Cutdown Deadline

Rosters must be at the maximum of 40 players (IR not included)

Monday, September 2nd (11:59) - Final Cutdown Deadline

Rosters must be at the maximum of 35 players (IR not included)

A manager may choose to roll through the entire offseason (post-draft) carrying only 30 to 35 players and never have to make a change when the 3 forced cutdown deadlines hit and not have to make any adds before the season starts.

I'm dialed in, free agency starts at 12:01 on the 14th but we do have a 24 hour period to check out the offers being made, is that correct? Before anyone actually is signed.
