    Location: Allegiant Stadium

    Time: 6:30 p.m. ET

    The matchup: Chiefs vs. 49ers
    How they got here:
    • The Chiefs are making their fourth Super Bowl appearance in five years after outmuscling the No. 1-seed Ravens in Baltimore. For much of 2023, the perennial contenders struggled to field a dominant offense, with reigning MVP Patrick Mahomes matching a career high in turnovers while targeting a miscue-ridden receiving corps. Then Mahomes' longtime connection with star tight end Travis Kelce heated up down the stretch. Coupled with a physical run game and defense, including veteran playmakers Chris Jones and L'Jarius Sneed, Kansas City hit a new gear in the playoffs, reiterating itself as the modern-day Patriots -- always technically sound and never to be counted out when it matters most.
    • The 49ers are back in the Super Bowl for the second time in five years after overcoming a 17-point deficit to the underdog Lions in the NFC Championship. Hyped all year as a title contender after reaching three conference championships in coach Kyle Shanahan's last four seasons, San Francisco was a juggernaut in the regular season, going 12-5 while boasting two MVP candidates in young quarterback Brock Purdy and do-it-all running back Christian McCaffrey, as well as a top-ranked "D" featuring stalwarts like Fred Warner, Dre Greenlaw and Charvarius Ward. Despite barely surviving the upstart Packers to start their postseason, they showed lots of resilience by outlasting Detroit to earn a ticket to the big game. (CBS)

If Campbell had kicked FGs instead of going for every fourth down they might have held off the 49ers.

Woulda shoulda coulda... Dan Campbell knows he's going to get hammered on his 4th down decisions, but a lot of times during the season and I mean a lot, he looked like a genius on 4th downs. It didn't go as planned in the SB, but he has balls and will live or die by those balls. One of those situations where people want to anoint him King if he succeeded or want to hang him from the nearest tree if he fails.

Chiefs pass rusher Charles Omenihu will miss the Super Bowl after suffering a serious knee injury in the AFC Championship Game.

Omenihu suffered a torn ACL on Sunday, according to multiple reports.

Although he said after the game that he’d be ready to play in two weeks against the 49ers, that clearly won’t be the case after testing today revealed the injury is worse than he thought.

Omenihu was third on the Chiefs with seven sacks in the regular season, and he added a sack in the win over the Ravens on Sunday. He posted on social media on Monday afternoon that he’s heartbroken he won’t be able to finish the season with his team at the Super Bowl.

In an article posted Monday night, the Associated Press explained that the average ticket price on TickPick was $9,815 for the game in Las Vegas between the 49ers and Chiefs. As of this posting, that number has increased to $10,741.

The final average price for last year’s Chiefs-Eagles game was $5,795.

The existing record comes from Super Bowl LV in Tampa, when COVID reduced capacity to 33 percent — and where the average price was $7,046.

I have a big screen TV, couch. Beer in the fridge and a bathroom about 40 feet away. One toilet, no waiting. Plus the cost of a hotel room and the 4 hour drive up there and back. I'll stay home thank you.

Three die-hard fans who attended Super Bowl I and decided to keep coming back every year are making it to Las Vegas this weekend.

Old friends Don Crisman, Gregory Eaton and Tom Henschel, who have been to all 57 Super Bowls, confirmed that they’re going to be at Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday, according to NBCBoston.com.

All three men say they’re still doing well in their 80s and want to attend at least the next two Super Bowls, to make it an even 60.

Two other people who attended the first 57 Super Bowls will not be in attendance on Sunday. Norma Hunt, the wife of Chiefs founder Lamar Hunt, attended the first 57 Super Bowls but died in June. Groundskeeper George Toma worked on the field of the first 57 Super Bowls but confirmed this week that he won’t be in Las Vegas for No. 58. Crisman, Eaton and Henschel are believed to be the last three people who have been to every Super Bowl.

Thuney has been ruled out for Sunday’s game due to the pectoral injury that he suffered in the divisional round of the playoffs. Nick Allegretti started in his place in the AFC Championship Game and he will do so again this weekend.

While Thuney is out, running back Jerick McKinnon still has a shot of being activated from injured reserve in time to play. McKinnon, who has a groin injury, is listed as questionable, although it might be more like doubtful after head coach Andy Reid said earlier this week that McKinnon only has a slim chance of playing. Offensive lineman Prince Tega Wanogho (quad) won’t be activated as he’s been ruled out.

Running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire (illness) and wide receiver Rashee Rice (ankle) were back to full practice after being limited on Thursday and neither player has an injury designation, so that likely means Thuney will be the most significant absence for the Chiefs in Las Vegas.

George Kittle, Arik Armstead have no injury designations for the 9ers.

He's 'active', still a game time decision, last I heard.

According to FOX... This year, companies are paying a whopping $7 million for just 30 seconds of airtime for SB commercials. Thats wacky in my opinion.

That works out to just a little over 4.6 cents per person to see your 30 second ad. That's not bad. as long as they're sober. Make sure your ad is in the first half.

Oopps. I was figuring 150M viewers. It's closer to 115-120M viewers. A little under 6 cents each.

And a big part of the reason the SB will likely be er be pay per view. Companies are not shelling out that kind of money to a limited audience and the NFL is not going to gamble that PPV can generate the money that ads do.
