The Vikings have there out and they can draft a QB and get a bridge QB cause Falcons do have talent to me its a win win for both teams
Analytics, Metrics is what it is and has a place in the game from a numbers/stats standpoint, but ive never been or will be a fan of in game use of this stuff. When it comes to coaches thats interesting and the statement about BB is encouraging from a Falcons point of view. Building on the fly is my choice/favorite way to go... when it comes to blowing it all up and rebuilding, forget about it, hell, in the game today with parity spread all across the board, every team is just a few FA's or Draft picks away, so dont explode, just reload! BB was highly criticized for drafting kickers in the upper portion of the Draft, but in his mind that was probably a huge chess piece missing when it comes to how the team performed on the field... and in hindsight, the QB room has always puzzled me. Maybe the Patriots and Kraft should have gave him one more year and see what happens when he and they get a top ranked QB in the Draft, assuming they do. If they dont the Patriots will remain in purgatory. Im certain Blank and BB are already discussing this and the QB thing in Atlanta is probably front and center. If he goes to Atlanta and does what he did with Brady and company who knows what might happen and you just might never know, but a young QB like Ridder under a BB lead scheme with proper leadership, might bring out the best of Ridder. Im not positive, but Im not sure Brady was a super-star in his first year or two, but BB put it all together and the players bought into it and wala, dynasty like ive never seen before.
Thats the key question. He's been paid peanuts and now he has a Divisional Playoff game under his belt, so that usually means he has moved himself up in the payroll department. He probably will have options which is a good thing for him, because no one really ahs boughten into him cash money wise.
I used to agree with this 100%... Now I understand better about a change in coaching staff and the major change in philosophy means, one man's treasure could be another man's trash. In other words, a guy who consistently gets 10+ sacks for multiple years in a 4-3 might struggle to get 2-5 in a 3-4 defense. So, I can now see why, in some cases, it makes sense to explode. This might have been part of the problem. Belichick may not have wanted to take the chance on his 3rd option of QB at #3 overall. He might have said, get me a veteran, or let's part ways. I agree, I think Ridder can succeed with the right leader and he might get that chance. If they hire BB though, I will be shocked if they don't go after Kirk Cousins. I think Bill wants to win now, Blank wants to win now and BB will be able to talk him into the fact that Cousins means, win now. Ridder will be a project under a new coaching regime, including Bill. Brady is an anomaly.. Don't think anyone else is going to do what he did, even with BB as the coach. Brady pretty much did it from the get go, but remember, Brady wasn't always the 40 TD guy. For the better part of his early career, he did it when he needed to, but the Patriots always had a very strong defense and running game. He didn't have to put up 3 TDs through the air per game to get wins. That isn't how they were built. He was the ultimate game manager and just willed the offense to do what ever the defense gave them.
The only QB that seems like a KOC QB is Bo Nix Oregon and Washington QB also seems like a KOC QB by pick 11 they might go defensive pick they need it!
He had a divisional playoff game under his belt in Cleveland, then an injury derailed his career.... I think the fact that he has now done it twice in 5 years and with two different teams will go a long way in his favor. If the Falcons sign Cousins, I wouldn't be shocked to see the Vikings go after Baker and still draft a QB if the right one falls into their lap. If given the option, I think Baker would choose Minnesota over New England... Now if the Falcons don't sign Cousins OR Belichick, Baker could end up there if the new coach doesn't want to risk his first year or two on Ridder. In my mind, Ridder can develop just as well as Mayfield in a new system. At the end of the day, Tampa is the best place for Mayfield, I hope they see it and offer him a decent contract.
Perfect rebuttal. You left nothing for me to argue with, it all makes sense, because many variables are involved. One thing tho... If BB who is a neanderthal wants to win ASAP, he better play this just right, if not perfect. He hasnt got time, lol. No rebuilds in Hotlanta for him, or I see him saying no to whatever Blank offers money wise.
Im going to shout this from the mountain top... KIRK COUSINS IS OFF LIMITS!!!!!! Seriously, sign the guy with a team friendly extension in Minnesota or the Vikings will be the Cardinals of the NFC.
When has Kirk Cousins ever done anything team friendly? People seem to forget, Watson isn't the first QB to get a fully guaranteed contract. Cousins has maximized his value in every contract. So much so that he can now do something selfish.. pick the best possible opportunity to win a Super Bowl ring. That might not be in Minnesota in his mind. If the team had continued to win without him and made the playoffs, he might have given you what you are talking about. Now, the Vikings will have to pay the man or he will be looking for a better opportunity to win. I'm not trying to burst your bubble Willie, but he hasn't done team friendly yet in his career. The bigger question is, what is the Vikings finances looking like? Jefferson hits his 5th year option in 2024 and Cousins has a lot of restructure money on the books. I'm not sure how much of that money gets moved around if they re-sign Cousins. Cousins may be their best bet to work within the salary cap.. I'm just not that familiar with the Vikings circumstances.
All good points. I guess with the start the Vikings had this year before Cousins went down and before Jefferson went down (not to mention Hockinson, Mattison and so on), this team looked like a contender. Cousins ought to just count the money he has. If he truly likes Minnesota, go friendly, but with wife and family in Georgia and BB a possibility, go with your heart and ride into the sunset rich and happy. Bottom line in Minny, they need a future QB, a franchise QB, so go for a good Drafted one and hope they have a bridge till said Drafted QB is ready. Maybe they get lucky and get a starter right off the bat like Stroud or Richardson barring the injuries. Hoping for the best....... for the past forever.
Man i just cant keep up with the convos right now, been meaning to reply to this. It sure seems like the most sensible move, for both parties, will be to work out an extension. It seems like there is an appetite for this on both sides. Mayfield just had his best season in the pros and he did it on the 2023 Bucs! That team was in a bad cap place with a HC many expected to be out after the season. There was a lot pointing to this being a write-off season to prepare the team for a reset in 2024. Well having won a division title(even if it is the weakest div in football) and seen some genuine production from the QB position i imagine that plan has changed. The Bucs are probably like a duck on the pond right now, all calm and quiet on the surface, but beneath the water-line the legs are going crazy as they formulate a new plan. Cos there's plenty to consider. You gonna part with a HC who just won the division? The HC cycle is already in full swing, they'd have to be in on that by now. Also just no anyway. Gonna move off a 4,000yard passer? Unlikely. What about Mike Evans? If you're resetting maybe you didnt want to pay a 30year old 4year mega money. Now? Actually there's several big FA decisions for the Bucs to make. And how the heck is Winfield Jr a FA?? I expect the Bucs are very busy right now, ultimately tho as it pertains to Baker i think there will be a serious effort to resign. Geno SMith's deal in Seattle could provide a benchmark. That was 3years $75mil & $40mil gtd. The Bucs might try to get under that, im not sure Mayfield's people will let em, the QB market being what it is. Baker may want the security of a 4year deal, i don't think he'll get that big a commitment given the Bucs overall situation. Something close to Geno's deal with a gtd number the Bucs could swallow after one year if they have to pivot again and blow it up is my guess. What do you think he'll get? Its a tricky spot the Bucs are in. I find it hard to believe Bowles is the long term answer, its easy to imagine the Bucs finishing 2024 just under .500 and out the playoffs kinda in no mans land re the draft & an overall direction. It'll be interesting to see what happens though.
I have often wondered why the NFL uses only the raw number (games won, yards passing, yards rushing, yards receiving, etc.) when ranking players and coaches' careers. Clearly, longevity plays an important part of how many wins or yards a coach or player can accumulate as they would have had more opportunities to accumulate them. Why not use "Win Percentage" or "Yards per Game"?
Howdy, Lym. Im thinking they (whoever they are) tend to keep it basic and simple for the common lay person/fan. Ive noticed on Pro Football reference/stathead, they practically keep stats on how far a guy can piss. Ive also wondered myself just what was recorded back in the day when the world wasnt PC generated... the powers that be would have to do some research, but ker-chunking numbers these days is all just a click into a data-base. In evaluating players and coaches, it seems all the "Win Percentage" or "Yards per Game" stuff is obtainable, but for just common knowledge its all simplified. I grow tired of all the 'analytics' involved myself. Common sense of the game in a given situation goes a long way and a good football minded coach with experience knows this. I get peaved when I see teams go for 2 because of analytics, when imo, they should go for 2 only when and if its necessary, not when down 2 scores like I just witnessed last weekend. Just my 2, if I understood your point... or a FWIW moment.
What the hell was that?? Two thoughts come to mind. 1) "ANY GIVEN SUNDAY." 2) "AND THAT'S WHY THEY PLAY THE GAME." Now I'm not pissed. The Chiefs are worthy of another Super Bowl. But, now we have to endure another week of Taylor Swift. WTF!!!!!!
