42-0 at halftime…How long before there is a vacancy for the Chargers HC? Richard Sherman said fire him at the half
What if they had played the Eagles, Cowboys or Dolphins tonight. 63 to the raiders be like 100 to them. Steelers would have just hung 20 though 12 from the D 8 from Boswell
The thing is, the Chargers have been going in the wrong direction with all their tools in their belt.. This team at 5-8 and losing Herbert quit. They were just going through the motions last night and that is on the HC. If he can't keep the team competitive when you lose a Mike Williams, then a Joey Bosa, then a Keenan Allen and Justin Herbert, then he has to go. I'm not talking about going on a 4 game win streak to end the season, I'm talking about competitive football on any given Sunday..or Thursday.. That was not an NFL product on the field last night, it was a lost team. I know there are other blowouts that happen and circumstances dictate different arguments for or against. Hell, this wasn't even the worst beat down THIS SEASON. But the Broncos just hired Sean Payton and they have righted the ship despite that loss to the Dolphins. Staley is in his 3rd year as HC and should have a hold on the team and the culture. It seems like he is losing more control every week they go out there. If they don't replace him now, they will lost their window with Herbert to succeed. Might as well do it now, allow an assistant to take over, improve their draft status and have the first round of coaching interviews setup with the other teams that have already moved on.
The Chargers have fired head coach Brandon Staley and General Manager Tom Telesco. A league source told PFT that the decision to part ways with both was made on Friday morning, hours after the Chargers lost 63-21 to the Raiders. “I want to thank Tom and Brandon for their hard work, dedication and professionalism, and wish both them and their great families nothing but the best,” Chargers owner Dean Spanos said in a statement. “These decisions are never easy, nor are they something I take lightly -- especially when you consider the number of people they impact. We are clearly not where we expect to be, however, and we need new vision. Doing nothing in the name of continuity was not a risk I was willing to take. Our fans have stood strong through so many ups and downs and close games. They desserve more. Frankly, they’ve earned more. Building and maintaining a championship-caliber program remains our ultimate goal. And reimagining how we achieve that goal begins today.” The top priority for the Chargers will be a coach and GM who can build a Super Bowl-caliber roster around quarterback Justin Herbert, who was locked in with a long-term contract extension this offseason. The Chargers aren’t in good cap shape for next season, so they’re going to have trouble building through free agency, but this is a team that needs a lot of work — but also a team that has its franchise quarterback in place. How come the Broncos didn’t fire their HC and GM when they got 70 pasted on them? Gidi there is no way Walton is going to Fire George Paton and Sean Payton....he has invested too much money with Russel Wilson and they are playing well in the Hunt right now.....and Seattle Seahawks can Thank Him for getting a King's Ransom for Wilson......But that been said Walton does have a TON of money @ 72 Billion US
To add to this, two totally different situations, Payton is in his first year, that blow out was his 3rd game coaching the team... He has obviously turned it around with the Broncos well within reach of a playoff birth.
The Broncos/Dolphins was nothing more that Denver trying to find themselves. They have since gained some respect. Yesterday? Same 'ol sorry ass Chargers playing the Raiders. Why are we suprised??
It's mildly interesting to see he's wearing the 404 shirt. That was the original telephone area code for Atlanta (now there are several more). But it also took on a second meaning in the tech world (and this is at Georgia Tech). 404 is also the error code for a web page not existing / not found. So in tech circles, it quickly became slang for being lost or clueless.
I believe the week so far went as I predicted in the playoff prediction I made. Something surely changes it today.
Bears blew it and then almost came back but Mooney dropped an INT. Bears really only have one path to the playoffs now and need help. They got the help this week but didn't take care of business.
Chiefs need to lose 1 so the Browns can seriously try to get that #1 seed. Ravens have the schedule to lose a couple.
I agree. The Ravens have a hell of a tough 4 games remaining, Chiefs are really wishy washy this season and the Browns have a winnable game at home vs the Jets, but I like their chances on the road vs the Bengals and Texans (not a cake walk for the Browns, but doable).
