Ironic that this is, effectively, the last season of the "Power Five" conferences. The PAC 12 will be gone.

Kyle McCord enters transfer portal: Ohio State QB expected to be one of biggest prizes of offseason

The college football transfer portal window opened on Monday, and one of the sport's biggest names hopped in immediately. Kyle McCord, the starting quarterback for Ohio State, is exploring his options elsewhere according to 247Sports.

McCord threw for 3,170 yards and 24 touchdowns during his first full season starting for the Buckeyes. He led coach Ryan Day's squad to an 11-0 record before falling to rival Michigan in the regular-season finale in what was the de facto Big Ten East championship game. McCord entered last offseason in a battle with Devin Brown for the top spot on the quarterback depth chart after CJ Stroud moved on to the NFL.

McCord thew for 240 yards in Ohio State's Week 4 win over No. 15 Notre Dame, and had another big game on Oct. 21 when he threw for 286 yards and a touchdown in the win over No. 10 Penn State.

McCord has 3,776 yards passing and 27 touchdowns during his three-year Ohio State career, which included a start as a true freshman against Akron in place of Stroud in which he threw for 319 yards and two touchdowns.

Currently ranked No. 5 in the transfer portal rankings according to 247Sports, McCord should be one of the hottest prospects in the market. Oklahoma's Dillon Gabriel, Duke's Riley Leonard, Washington State's Cameron Ward, UCLA's Dante Moore, Oregon State's DJ Uiagalelei and Kansas State's Will Howard are several of the star signal-callers who have jumped into the portal during the winter window so far.

This could be an indication of Day moving more toward utilizing mobile quarterbacks after Stroud and McCord couldn't get the job done against the Wolverines. McCord rushed for -65 yards in 2023 and, while Stroud did get Ohio State into the College Football Playoff, he gained 108 yards on the ground -- 34 of which were in the Peach Bowl national semifinal win over Georgia.

McCord was a four-star prospect was the No. 49 overall player from the Class of 2021 and played for St. Joseph's Prep in Philadelphia.

Ohio State wide receiver Julian Fleming, who once ranked as the No. 4 overall player in the 2020 recruiting cycle, will enter the transfer portal. Fleming was considered the crown jewel of the Buckeyes 2020 recruiting class that included future NFL players such as OL Paris Johnson Jr., wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba and quarterback C.J. Stroud. Fleming was the No. 1 overall WR in the cycle and the top-ranked player from that Ohio State recruiting class.

In his four-year career at Ohio State, Fleming amassed 79 catches for 963 yards and seven touchdowns. After not seeing much time in his first two seasons on campus, Fleming had a breakout season in 2022 by catching 34 passes for 533 yards and six touchdowns. Fleming should still have plenty of suitors for his services.

Every team in the nation is in a Bowl game these days, but here are the 'big' ones...

Wanna watch the playoff boards heads explode? How about this scenario:
    Texas win
    Alabama win
    Florida State win
    Liberty win

Only two teams remain unbeaten at seasons end, neither of which are in the playoffs.

Doesn't matter who wins the national title, the other guy has two losses...

Now... I don't think FSU has a chance in hell of beating Georgia, but stranger things have happened.

LSU's Jayden Daniels wins Heisman Trophy after wild season-long race

For the second time in four years, LSU has a Heisman Trophy winner.

Quarterback Jayden Daniels won the Heisman Saturday night, beating out Michael Penix Jr., Bo Nix and Marvin Harrison Jr.

Daniels received 503 first-place votes, and Penix received 292.

Daniels’ numbers are eye-popping. He threw for 3,812 yards, 40 touchdowns and four interceptions. On the ground, Daniels rushed for 1,134 yards and 10 touchdowns.

He led the Tigers to a 9-3 record despite a defense that allowed the second-most yards and third-most points per game in the SEC.

He is just the fourth player since 1986 to win the award with three losses in the regular season.

Daniels was actually behind in the Heisman odds in Vegas heading into championship weekend, but the favorite at the time, Nix, was unable to lead his Ducks to the Pac-12 title and into the College Football Playoff.

That left the door open for Daniels. At different points during the season, Penix and even Michigan's J.J. McCarthy were favored to win.

But Daniels separated himself from the pack down the stretch. In his final three games, he threw for 1,020 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Daniels is the first Tiger to win the Heisman Trophy since Joe Burrow did so in 2019. Burrow was the first overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft and the third of three straight Heisman winners selected No. 1 overall, joining Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray.

Billy Cannon won the award in 1959, and in 2009, Doc Fenton was awarded the trophy for his 1908 season, when the National Football Foundation retroactively selected winners from 1889 to 1934. So, Daniels is the fourth LSU player to be named the Heisman winner.

It's the 37th time a quarterback has won the trophy, the most of any position. Running back is second with 21.

Good for him. Well deserved. Been a fan of his this year, especially after just noticing him and his gaudy stats mid-way through the season.

Michigan receives NCAA notice of allegations for recruiting violation
    • Adam Rittenberg, ESPN Senior WriterDec 20, 2023, 04:47 PM ET

Michigan has received a notice of allegations from the NCAA regarding alleged violations by the football staff during the COVID-19 recruiting dead period, two university officials told ESPN.

According to sources, Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh faces a Level I violation for allegedly not cooperating with or misleading NCAA investigators about the alleged violations, and Michigan also faces four Level II violations, which are considered less serious. Michigan in August self-imposed a three-game suspension for Harbaugh to begin the season, and a one-game suspension for offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore as part of a negotiated resolution for his involvement.

The self-imposed penalties, enacted to soften the impact of NCAA punishment, came shortly after the NCAA's infractions committee did not approve a negotiated resolution involving Harbaugh that would have resulted in a four-game suspension. The NCAA also in August took the unusual step of issuing a statement during an ongoing investigation about the severity of the alleged violations involving Michigan.

"The Michigan infractions case is related to impermissible on and off-campus recruiting during the COVID-19 dead period and impermissible coaching activities -- not a cheeseburger," Derrick Crawford, NCAA vice president of hearing operations, said in the statement, referring to the simplistic characterization of the violations in some media reports. "It is not uncommon for the [committee on infractions] to seek clarification on key facts prior to accepting. The COI may also reject an NR [negotiated resolution] if it determines that the agreement is not in the best interests of the Association or the penalties are not reasonable. If the involved parties cannot resolve a case through the negotiated resolution process, it may proceed to a hearing, but the committee believes cooperation is the best avenue to quickly resolve issues."

In January, Michigan received a draft of the notice of allegations, which outlined the Level I violation involving Harbaugh and the Level II infractions, which included an off-field analyst allegedly being involved in on-field coaching activities. Sources told ESPN then that Harbaugh could face up to a six-game suspension.

Michigan faces a second NCAA investigation for the prohibited off-campus scouting and signal stealing allegedly led by former staff member Connor Stalions, who resigned Nov. 4. Although Michigan has not received a notice of allegations in that case, the Big Ten imposed a three-game suspension for Harbaugh under its sportsmanship policy, which the coach served for the final three regular-season games. Harbaugh could be charged as a repeat violator under head-coach responsibility, also a Level I charge.

Harbaugh returned to the sideline Dec. 2 for the Big Ten championship game against Iowa, and will coach Michigan on Jan. 1 when it faces Alabama in the CFP Semifinal at the Rose Bowl Game Presented by Prudential. Michigan has 90 days to respond to the notice of allegations, and then the NCAA will have 60 days to issue a rebuttal.
