Oregon put up a great fight, but Washington prevails, 34-31. Michael Penix Jr. finished with 319 yards passing with a touchdown. Bo Nix finished with 239 yards passing, 69 yards rushing and three touchdowns, but his third-quarter interception proved costly.
Well, Toledo fell short, good game by both teams, some real good defensive plays in that game. Toledo made too many mistakes tho. Miami 23 - Toledo 14
I hate the way things are going. The NCAA is getting its jollies off knowing that it can justify two SEC teams in the playoffs, thanks to Alabama. Now, don't get me wrong - FSU starting this kid at QB means that a loss is very possible. But they're a much more talented team overall than Louisville, so... If FSU and Michigan win, and you've got 3 unbeatens PLUS Georgia and Alabama with a loss apiece, I can very much see them keeping one of the unbeatens out and putting Georgia at 2, Alabama at 4 (so they don't get a repeat game right away). I would really hate that. This subjective crap is the worst.
Some are saying 12-1 Texas gets in over Alabama. If the Buckeyes who lost on the road to the #2 team dropped 4 spots, is Georgia going down 4 spots? Its a mess and any way its sliced and diced and decided, a lot of people wont be happy. Michigan, FSU and Washington are locks, but after that, Id like to be a fly on the wall when all is debated, calculated or viewed with their crystal ball... I think tea leaves and computers will be involved also.
I can see fsu getting left out. Lot of people may not like it but its possible. This is why everyone has cried for expansion since the beginning. In most yers teams like fsu and washington have lost in the final week to bail them out but not this year. Its going to be ugly and multiple teams and their fans are going to be upset.
Yeah, I had the same thought as soon as Alabama won. I bet FSU gets left out. Michigan, Georgia, Washington, Alabama. Make the NCAA the most money they can, and blame it on FSU's schedule / lack of starting QB.
Maybe just set up the major conferences and run a NFL type Playoff minus the Wild Card shit and all this other rigmarole can die. Whats wrong with teams that win there Division squaring off for the conference Championship, then take that winner and pit them against other championship winners and let the chips fall where they may? No computer strength of schedule stuff, no committee personal input stuff, just let it happen on the field. As it stands in todays DIV 1 NCAA football, all the conferences are conglomerating any ways, the BIG 10 is already the BIG 27 and the PAC 12 is messed up and do something linking the ACC and the SEC together and get er done... with bunched up power conferences, including the MAC, CUSA and others like that, let the teams/players settle it on the grid-iron. Maybe a few more games involved, its extra revenue to conferences and the NCAA (because thats all this is about in their eyes in the first place). Every Div 1 team plays exactly 10 games (maybe 9), then let the fun of the 'post season' begin... after-all, thats what makes this NCAA power conference stuff thrive. Just shy of 2 cents from this simpleton.
Michigan, Washington, Texas, and Alabama is officially the final 4. Florida State is the first undefeated left out. Should be a fun 3 games.
Florida State AD rips CFP officials after being left out: 'The committee failed college football today' Florida State athletics director Michael Alford ripped the College Football Playoff Committee on Sunday after the undefeated Seminoles were left out of the four-team field. The Seminoles lost Jordan Travis a few weeks ago but still played well enough to defeat Louisville for the ACC Championship. CFP Selection Committee Chair Boo Corrigan said on ESPN that Florida State was a "different team" than they were through 11 weeks, suggesting the Travis injury was why officials decided against putting the team into the Playoff. "The consequences of giving in to a narrative of the moment are destructive, far-reaching and permanent. Not just for Florida State, but college football as a whole," Alford said. "The argument of whether a team is the 'most deserving OR best' is a false equivalence. It renders the season up to yesterday irrelevant and significantly damages the legitimacy of the College Football Playoff. The 2023 Florida State Seminoles are the epitome of a total TEAM. To eliminate them from a chance to compete for a national championship is an unwarranted injustice that shows complete disregard and disrespect for their performance and accomplishments. It is unforgievable (sic)." Alford maintained that the team winning in spite of Travis’ injury should’ve "enhanced" their case to be in the Playoff instead of hindering it. "Wins matter. Losses matter. Those that compete in the arena know this," he continued. "Those on the committee who also competed in the sport and should have known this have forgotten it. Today, they changed the way success is assessed in college football, from a tangible metric – winning on the field – to an intangible, subjective one. Evidently, predicting the future matters more. "For many of us, today's decision by the committee has forever damaged the credibility of the institution that is the College Football Playoff. And, saddest of all, it was self-inflicted. They chose predictive competitiveness over proven performance; subjectivity over fact. They have become a committee of prognosticators. They have abandoned their responsibility by discarding their purpose – to evaluate performance on the field. "Our players, coaches, and fans – as well as all those who love this sport – deserve better. The committee failed college football today." Florida State beat two ranked teams in the regular season and then topped Louisville for the conference title. FOX
It would have been the first time that no SEC team was in the playoffs. I’m a big believer in the SEC but if there are teams more deserving so be it. FSU should have been in over Alabama.
I'm not going as far as saying FSU is better than either Alabama or Texas, but when a Power 5 Conference Champion is undefeated, unless there are 4 other Power 5 Conference Champions who are also undefeated, that team should automatically be included in the playoffs. That's MY 2 cents. I agree with Michael Alford, this is a travesty and a black mark on the college football playoff series. Now, I am rooting for an Alabama win, a Texas win and a Florida State win... Then let's get to the controversy of the ONLY Power 5 Conference team that is undefeated, not being the NCAA Champion. That should give the school enough ammunition to take it to court and get their crown... Sad part is, I fucking hate Florida State. With the way this season ended, there are no more excuses to not expand the field of the playoff format. Whether that is 8 teams or 12 teams.
Totally agree. Why the NCAA cant see this is beyond me. A few more games equals a few more million (quite a few) in cash money, all the good teams are included, problem solved.
