Vikings star receiver Justin Jefferson has not played since Oct. 8 when he injured his right hamstring in a game against the Chiefs.

He has practiced the past two weeks on a limited basis but was questionable for the past two games and didn’t play.

Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell said Jefferson is considered questionable for Monday Night Football, too.

“I know he had a really good week last week,” O’Connell said, via Alec Lewis of TheAthletic.com. “We’ll have an extra day this week. . . . As of right now, I view him as questionable for the football game.”

The Vikings want to “be smart” with the soft-tissue injury, something Jefferson himself said he would do. Jefferson noted that hamstring injuries can linger and come back, so he won’t push to return until the leg is fully healed.

The Vikings have their off week in Week 13, so Week 14 could be the first time the team sees Jefferson back on the field.

He remains on injured reserve for now.

Jefferson, who suffered a hamstring injury against the Chiefs in Week 5, has been practicing since November 8. He has been limited in every session.

The 6-5 Vikings have until November 29 to put him on the active roster or return him to IR for the rest of the season.

Also limited for the Vikings was tight end T.J. Hockenson (ribs) and cornerback Akayleb Evans (calf). Quarterback Jaren Hall (concussion), quarterback Nick Mullens (back), and linebacker Brian Asamoah II (ankle) fully participated.

Quarterback Josh Dobbs was on the report last week with an ankle injury. His name did not appear on Thursday’s initial report in advance of Monday night’s game against the Bears.

Justin Jefferson: If I’m feeling good, I will play

Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson is getting closer, but there’s still no definitive word on whether or not he’ll be on the field when Minnesota plays Chicago on Monday night.

Jefferson told reporters on Friday that his recovery is going well and that he’s gotten to his top speed at practice. He’s been a limited participant on the team’s injury reports since being designated to return.

But he added he’s not sure whether he’ll play this week.

“We’ll see,” Jefferson said, via Kevin Seifert of ESPN. “We still have more days to practice and really evaluate everything. We’re going to weigh the options correctly, making sure that I’m feeling well and prepared to play a game, and if I’m feeling good, I will play.”

Jefferson has been out since the Week 5 loss to the Chiefs. He has 36 catches for 571 yards with three touchdowns so far this season.

Kevin O’Connell considered benching Josh Dobbs, doesn’t commit to him post-bye

It was fun while it lasted. And, by Week 14, it could be over.

After Monday night’s 12-10 loss by the Vikings, which featured four interceptions from feel-good-gone-bad quarterback Josh Dobbs, Minnesota coach Kevin O’Connell did not commit to keeping Dobbs under center after the team’s bye.

“We’re going to take a look and really evaluate the inventory of plays now we have of Josh,” O’Connell told reporters. “We got healthy. We got Jaren [Hall] back, you know, available to us and then Nick Mullens is available as well.”

Mullens was available on Monday night as the backup. And it sounds as if O’Connell was indeed considering giving him a shot.

“We definitely, you know, had started to get to the point where I was just trying to think almost what would give us a spark,” O’Connell said in response to the question of whether he considered putting Mullens in the game. “As much as the turnovers absolutely cripple you offensively, I still thought Josh battled, no flinch, and just kept playing and competing to try help us win.”

Dobbs did lead a touchdown drive when it mattered most, giving the Vikings a 10-9 lead in the fourth quarter. But the offense turned far too conservative when it could have slammed the door on the Bears after a Justin Fields fumble, surely due to the multiple mistakes Dobbs had previously made.

Although the glass can be characterized as half full, it feels as if it’s half empty, thanks to a pair of prime-time losses fueled by an offense that just isn’t getting it done.

“I think what Josh Dobbs has really done coming in here on short notice and really going 2-2 in a stretch where, you know, a lot of people might have thought, Kirk Cousins and Justin Jefferson being out, you know, the deck’s stacked against us,” O’Connell said. “That’s not the way this team thinks. It’s not the way we operate. It’s not the way I operate. We’re trying to go out and win every football game we play. We’re gonna evaluate what we’ve been able to do, things we need to get better at, and we’ll take a look at what that looks like.”

The team already has battled back, from starts of both 0-3 and 1-4. But with Thanksgiving being the unofficial moment where pretenders and contenders go their separate ways, the Vikings are landing in the wrong category.

They still have five opportunities, and Jefferson should be back for road games at Las Vegas and Cincinnati.

Vikings will activate Justin Jefferson from injured reserve Tuesday

The Vikings won’t play this week, but the stage is set for them to have wide receiver Justin Jefferson back in the lineup when they return from their bye week.

Jefferson hurt his hamstring in October and has missed the last seven games while on injured reserve. He returned to practice on November 8 and has been listed as questionable to play the last couple of weeks without being put back on the active roster.

That will change Tuesday. The Vikings announced that they will be activating Jefferson, which is no surprise because they need to do so before his 21-day practice window closes and he becomes ineligible to return to the field at any point this season.

The Vikings will return to action on December 10 against the Raiders and getting Jefferson back would boost their chances of getting a win in that contest.

2nd year QB Jaren Hall he looked pretty good until he got his head banged on the turf and he is a much better passer than Dobbs cause he's a so so QB and he must see the bench NOW! I rather see Jaren Hall than Nick Mullens starting just to see what he has

Im torn on that, but Id go with waiting through 2 weeks because of the bye and see who shows the most in practice... Go with the guy that looks ready, I guess.

Sorry Badd with last night's score......very rare to see a team win without a TD in the NFL.

Jaren Hall had pretty good Numbers in College with The Cougars and he also played Baseball very well.

Good Luck down the stretch run for your Vikes.

Kevin O’Connell: Justin Jefferson return “definitely part” of QB choice after bye

The Vikings activated wide receiver Justin Jefferson from injured reserve on Tuesday and they plan to have him in the lineup against the Raiders when they return from their bye week, but there’s less clarity about who will be throwing passes to Jefferson and the rest of the team’s receivers.

Josh Dobbs had a dreadful game against the Bears in Monday night’s 12-10 loss and head coach Kevin O’Connell didn’t commit to starting him in Week 14 during his postgame press conference. That remained the case on Tuesday as O’Connell said that there is no “particular timeline” to choose between Dobbs, Nick Mullens, and Jaren Hall — the Vikings released quarterback Sean Mannion from the practice squad and wide receiver N’Keal Harry from the active roster Tuesday — because all the players need to be “evaluated to see what gives us the best chance to win.”

O’Connell added that Jefferson’s return is “definitely part” of that process because the Vikings have to determine who will be able to “make sure he has a critical, critical impact on the football game.”

“We’re going to make sure that whoever is playing quarterback is aware and understands the intent behind plays where either Justin is the primary, or — based upon coverage, based upon the defensive look — how to quickly and efficiently get to the right place to go with the football,” O’Connell said. “In the end that’s what the NFL passing game is about: rhythm, timing, understanding that the defense can and will take some things away, but progressing in rhythm.”

O’Connell was careful to point out the contributions of T.J. Hockenson, Jordan Addison and others during Jefferson’s absence, but he left little doubt that he thinks the Vikings’ hopes for future offensive success will flow through having “the best receiver in football” as part of the passing attack.

I think it's time for KOC to turn over the play-calling duties to some one else its not working the Vikings have to much talent to play like this

Vikings offensive coordinator Wes Phillips has been arrested for driving while intoxicated.

Phillips was arrested for DWI, a misdemeanor, after Minnesota police pulled him over on Friday night. He was released on bond.

“Wes immediately notified the team following his arrest last night,” the Vikings said in a statement on Saturday. “This morning we contacted the NFL, and after internal discussion, made the decision Wes will travel with the team to Las Vegas this afternoon. We will continue to gather information regarding the incident and have further comment at the appropriate time.”

Phillips is in his second season as the Vikings’ offensive coordinator. He previously spent three years on the Rams’ staff, five in Washington and seven in Dallas. He is the son of former NFL head coach Wade Phillips and the grandson of former NFL head coach Bum Phillips.
