Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen topped the 10,000 career receiving yards milestone during Monday night’s win over the Jets, and afterward he said he had impressed even himself.

“That’s amazing. Hard work paying off, consistency, resiliency. I’ve been through a lot, injuries, so it’s nice,” Allen said.

Allen topped the 10,000-yard mark on a sensational leaping one-handed catch which he said he was looking forward to seeing on the highlight shows.

“I haven’t seen it yet, but it felt pretty good on the field,” Allen said.

Among active players, Allen is sixth in career receiving yards behind Julio Jones, DeAndre Hopkins, Mike Evans, Travis Kelce and Davante Adams.

Asked if he feels old to be in that kind of company, the 31-year-old Allen said, “No. They still can’t stop me.”

Chase Young on playing with Nick Bosa again: Gonna be fun, a race to the quarterback

Defensive end Chase Young is in his first full week as a member of the 49ers and he held his first press conference since last week’s trade on Monday.

Young had been a member of the Commanders for his entire career before being dealt ahead of the trade deadline and he was asked about his initial reaction to hearing the news that he was moving to the NFC West club. Young said he was aware a deal might happen and that he was happy to hear about the destination.

The presence of Ohio State teammate Nick Bosa had something to do with that, but Young also said “I see why they win” when talking about the overall culture the 49ers have in place.

“Wasn’t mad,” Young said. Nick is here. Always been a big brother to me. Just stepping in here today — the culture, the vibe is a lot different. I definitely know I’m in the building with winners.”

Young said it’s “gonna be fun” to play with Bosa again and that envisions a similar “race to the quarterback” that they engaged in when they were playing for the Buckeyes. The first chance to see the partnership will come in Jacksonville in Week 10.

    • WR Ja'Marr Chase told reporters he's dealing with a back injury that got worse as Sunday night's game against the Bills went on and is "pretty sore just moving around" right now. Head coach Zac Taylor said it's impossible to tell Chase's status for Week 10 the day after a game and that they'll take things day to day. The injury occurred when Chase went up for a deep jump ball in the third quarter and came down hard on his back.

It would have to be a favorable match up and, at this point, I don't see any that the Steelers would win.

They already beat the Browns once... We will be trying to get revenge in two weeks, but until they can prove otherwise, I still dread playing Pittsburgh. This should have been the year they take charge, yet they couldn't get it done. Which just pisses me off to no end!!

The Browns are going to have to block Watt and Highsmith with backup tackles. That’s a tall order. The Ravens might have their playoff position wrapped up by the last week of the season and basically hand the Steelers that game. The Steelers usually split with the teams in their division at least but the Ravens and browns might find it hard to do this season. I see at least one win against the Bengals for the Steelers too. Beat the Cardinals and Colts and the Steelers are at 10 wins. Should beat the packers this week and that’s 11. Any questions?

I'm of the mindset that the Steelers will make the playoffs. They usually get a bit better in the second half of the season (not always. )
The schedule has some favorable games. Beating the Packers, Cardinals, and Colts puts them at 8 wins. Win 2 of the other 6 and you're 10-7. I still don't like the style vs high powered teams.

I still think the Steelers have the hardest road to the playoffs of the AFC North..

Even with wins at home against the Packers and Cardinals... The road schedule is what will be very difficult..

Browns, Bengals, Colts, Seahawks and yes the Ravens if they don't have it gift wrapped by week 18.

The toughest part of the Browns schedule is behind us.. The Ravens away is almost a gimme loss.. the remainder is like this:

    Home:
    Steelers
    Jaguars
    Bears
    Jets

    Away:
    Broncos
    Rams
    Texans
    Bengals

So, our glaring losses are Ravens....

    Probable losses, Texans away

Tough to win: Steelers/home, Jaguars/home, Bengals/away(but we have owned them the past 4 years)

If Deshaun Watson gets his head out of his ass, the Browns could still win 12 games. This defense is what makes this team really really good.

Dawand Jones held his own against Watt, all but one play. He's actually been a very pleasant surprise. I just hope they are smart enough to keep him on the right side and find someone else to man the left. If they move him, it might be a liability on both sides. Doesn't really matter, Watson won't stay in the pocket anyway.

I'm not starting another argument with you Lym, fucking hell....

I think it's well known that QBs with happy feet are less accurate overall. Watch film, instead of stepping up into the pocket, for which it is designed, he steps to either side. Nearly all of his sacks, he has run into the sack.

Mike Tomlin: Good reviews for Matt Canada’s move to sideline

The Steelers made a change to their gameday operations against the Titans last Thursday and it looks like it will remain the way they handle things against the Packers this week.

Offensive coordinator Matt Canada worked from the sideline rather than in a booth above the field in order to improve his lines of communication with head coach Mike Tomlin, quarterback Kenny Pickett and others on the offense. The Steelers got a 20-16 win and Pickett said after the game that he thought the arrangement worked well.

At his Tuesday press conference, Tomlin said Pickett wasn’t alone in that opinion and that the team will likely be doing things the same way moving forward.

“We’re willing to do whatever is required to continue to progress in all three phases,” Tomlin said. “We make changes week in and week out. Obviously, because of his location, that was a more obvious change. I thought it was good reviews. I thought it aided in communication. Coach-to-player is one thing, but the give and take and the face-to-face component I thought could add a little value to our cause. The reviews were positive and, so, we’ll probably continue to work in that area. We’ll probably continue to turn other things over in an effort to continue to improve. Again, we do things weekly. Some weeks you notice them. Most weeks you don’t.”

Little about the performance of the Steelers offense has gone unnoticed so far this season and reviews generally haven’t been as good as the ones Tomlin got about Canada’s move downstairs. The Steelers have a winning record, though, and adding to it with a home win over Green Bay should continue to quell calls for bigger changes in Pittsburgh.

Vikings to open Justin Jefferson’s 21-day practice window

Justin Jefferson is on the way back.

The Vikings are set to designate Jefferson to return from injured reserve, opening his 21-day practice window, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.

While Jefferson will start practicing, NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero separately reported on Tuesday that the receiver is unlikely to play this week against the Saints.

Jefferson has 36 catches for 571 yards with three touchdowns. Despite missing the last four weeks, Jefferson still leads the team in receiving yards, though both T.J. Hockenson (547) and Jordan Addison (534) are creeping up that chart.

The Vikings play the New Orleans, Denver, and Chicago before their Week 13 bye at the start of December.

Browns DE Myles Garrett amid 2023 season: 'I'm nearing my prime, the peak of my powers'

Myles Garrett enters the second half of the 2023 NFL season as a clear Defensive Player of the Year candidate, leading one of the best units in the NFL and spearheading the Cleveland Browns to a 5-3 record ahead of Sunday's showdown with the Baltimore Ravens.

Garrett, however, sees more to come.

"I think I'm nearing my prime, the peak of my powers," Garrett told The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday. "I think it's just matching that experience and that wisdom as well as my athletic ability. Both of those being combined, I think that's really taken my game to another level."

Garrett has shined in defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz's scheme. Through eight games, Garrett's generated 9.5 sacks and 18 QB hits, both second-most in the NFL. He leads the league with four strip-sacks. Garrett's 19.4 pressure percentage ranks sixth in the NFL, and he's getting home better than anyone else, netting a league-high 4.8 sack percentage, per Next Gen Stats.

"I've got to give credit to my teammates and Jim Schwartz because without those guys and him putting us in position to make plays, none of that's possible," Garrett said. "He's willing to line me up anywhere and, and try out stuff. He knows I'm going to do my thing. He's like, 'We'll get you one on one and you'll wreak havoc, so go do it.'"

We expected Schwartz's defense to boost Garrett and the rest of the pieces on the Browns D, but the play through four weeks might have surpassed even those lofty predictions.

Garrett noted that the DC "bundles effort with swag," putting players in the proper positions to make plays and encouraging personalities to shine.

Sunday's showdown against the Ravens will feature two of the top defensive units in the NFL.

The Browns (234.8 total YPG allowed) and Ravens (262.6 total YPG allowed) rank first and second in the NFL in total defense in 2023. Cleveland also ranks first in pass YPG allowed (145.0) and opponent third-down percentage (26.0). Meanwhile, Baltimore ranks first in points per game allowed (13.8), sacks per game (3.9) and opponent passer rating (69.7).

Cleveland must be much better on the road Sunday than in previous weeks. Through eight games, the Browns have allowed 10.2 PPG in five games at home but 29.3 PPG in three road games in 2023. Only Baltimore (10.0) has allowed fewer PPG at home than Cleveland.

In Week 4, the Browns held Baltimore to 296 yards of offense, 16 first downs, and 4 of 12 on third downs but lost 28-3 in a game started by rookie quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson. The Ravens are the only team to put up more than 17 points in Cleveland this season.

Tyler Allgeier continues to get more carries than Bijan Robinson

The Falcons made one big change on offense on Sunday, starting Taylor Heinicke at quarterback instead of Desmond Ridder. But another change many fans have been clamoring for still hasn’t happened: Tyler Allgeier continues to get more carries than Bijan Robinson.

On Sunday against the Vikings, the Falcons had Allgeier run the ball 12 times for 39 yards, while Robinson ran the ball 11 times for 51 yards. That continues the trend from the entire season: The split of carries tips slightly in Allgeier’s favor, but Robinson is more effective on his runs.

So far this season Allgeier has 116 carries for 371 yards, while Robinson has 103 carries for 517 yards. That’s an average of 3.2 yards per carry for Allgeier and 5.0 yards per carry for Robinson.

If Allgeier were picking up a lot of first downs in short-yardage situations, perhaps it would be justifiable to keep feeding the running back who’s averaging almost two yards per carry less, but that isn’t the case: Robinson has run for 26 first downs, while Allgeier has run for 24 first downs. Robinson has two more first downs on 13 fewer carries.

Robinson does get more passes thrown his way than Allgeier does (Robinson has caught 28 of 41 targets for 197 yards while Allgeier has caught 11 of 16 targets for 76 yards), so their touches this season are almost identical: Robinson has 131 touches and Allgeier has 127 touches.

But the question remains: Why take Robinson with the No. 8 overall pick in the draft, only to have him split time with a less effective running back who was already on the roster? With Falcons head coach Arthur Smith possibly coaching for his job over the last eight games of the season, he may need to re-think the usage of his two running backs.
