I think the mighty have fallin' and maybe the Eagles are the top team. Record wise they are, but theve also been in some real close games that could have gone either way. Im thinking its a coin toss type season the rest of the way. 49ers and Chiefs are beatable and it probably goes down to the wire where the team that gets hot when its Playoff time wins it all... might be another Wild Card team, nobody knows.

Packers LB Rashan Gary signing four-year, $96 million contract extension

Rashan Gary will continue to be the nightmare of opposing quarterbacks visiting Green Bay for seasons to come.

The Packers pass rusher has agreed to terms on a four-year, $96 million contract extension, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported on Monday, per a source.

The $96 million extension is in new money, bringing Gary's contract to a total of $107,532,706, including a $34,636,928 signing bonus, per Rapoport.

A first-round pick by the Packers in 2019, Gary had been playing in the final year of his rookie contract in 2023. The extension is a testament to the 25-year-old's work ethic after he suffered a torn ACL last season.

Gary illustrated his return to health with a three-sack game over the Saints in Week 3, a performance that was instrumental in Green Bay's comeback win. He's collected 4.5 sacks, five tackles for loss and eight QB hits in seven games this season.

Green Bay went ahead and locked up an essential pillar of the defense for years to come, and Gary's play-wrecking abilities allow teammates to thrive.

Packers linebackers De'Vondre Campbell and Preston Smith have enjoyed a career renaissances upon Gary's arrival, and Jaire Alexander, Rasul Douglas, Eric Stokes and Darnell Savage are part of a talented secondary that benefits from the Michigan product wreaking havoc. Lukas Van Ness, a first-round pass rusher selected in 2023, will also get to learn from Gary in the years to come.

In 63 career games, Gary has produced 27.0 sacks, 62 QB hits, three forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries.

The Patriots will be without one of their key offensive players for the rest of the season.

Receiver Kendrick Bourne suffered a torn ACL during Sunday’s loss to the Dolphins, according to multiple reports.

Bourne, 28, was New England’s top receiver. He currently leads the team in receptions (37), receiving yards (406), and touchdowns (four).

Bourne has been with the Patriots since 2021. That was the best season of his career as he caught 55 passes for 800 yards with five touchdowns. He caught 35 passes for 434 yards with one TD last year.

Seahawks acquire Leonard Williams for 2024 second-round, 2025 fifth-round picks

Defensive lineman Leonard Williams played his final game for the Giants on Sunday.

NFL Media reports that the Giants have traded Williams to the Seahawks. They will receive a 2024 second-round pick and a 2025 fifth-round pick in exchange for the veteran.

Williams was traded to the Giants by the Jets in 2019 and played out the 2020 season under the franchise tag. He signed a three-year deal with the Giants ahead of the 2021 season and has an $18 million base salary this year, but the deal will reportedly be reworked with the Giants paying a portion of his remaining compensation before the trade becomes official.

Williams has 21 tackles and 1.5 sacks in eight games this season. He joins Frank Clark as new additions to the front seven for the Seahawks, who moved into first place in the NFC West with Sunday’s win over the Browns.

Amon-Ra St. Brown set to play vs. Raiders

The Lions will have their best receiver against the Raiders on Monday night.

Despite being added to the injury report as questionable with an illness, Amon-Ra St. Brown is expected to play, according to multiple reports.

St. Brown had fully participated in all three practices during the week.

In six games this season, St. Brown has caught 51 passes for 557 yards with three touchdowns.

Giants’ -9 passing yards was the lowest total in the NFL this century

Giants quarterback Tyrod Taylor went 4-for-7 for 8 yards passing and lost 7 yards on sacks Sunday against the Jets. After Taylor left the game with an injury, backup Tommy DeVito went 2-for-7 for -1 passing, and lost 9 yards on sacks.

Add that up, and the Giants netted -9 yards passing in the game. That’s the worst total in any NFL game this century.

The last time an NFL team had that low a total in passing yardage, it was the 2000 Browns, who also had -9 yards in a 48-0 loss to the Jaguars. The last time a team had a lower total, it was the 1998 Chargers, who totaled -19 yards when rookie quarterback Ryan Leaf went 1-for-15 passing for 4 yards, and lost 23 yards on sacks, in a 23-7 loss to the Chiefs.

Amazingly, the Giants nearly won Sunday’s game even with negative passing yardage, as the game went into overtime. Even more amazingly, the Giants ran nothing but pass plays after receiving the overtime kickoff. That didn’t work, and after the Giants punted, the Jets moved into range for the game-winning field goal, ending perhaps the ugliest game of this NFL season.

Monday Night Football: Jahmyr Gibbs, Alex Anzalone lead Lions to 26-14 win

    upload_2023-10-31_5-20-58.png

The Lions rebounded from their blowout loss to the Ravens by dominating the Raiders on Monday Night Football. The game was not as close as the 26-14 score might indicate.

The Lions had 486 yards on 81 plays to 157 yards on 45 plays for the Raiders.

Detroit now is 6-2, and the Raiders are 3-5.

The Lions went 1-for-5 in the red zone, scoring only 13 points inside the Raiders’ 20-yard line. They scored an 18-yard touchdown on a throw from Jared Goff to Sam LaPorta, made two field goals, lost a fumble and missed a chip-shot field goal in their red zone trips.

The Lions had a 4-yard touchdown run by Craig Reynolds nullified by a holding penalty on Dan Skipper with 5:19 left, and Riley Patterson was wide right on a 26-yard field goal. Patterson made kicks of 44, 31, 33 and 52 yards.

Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo twice missed a wide open Davante Adams, who also dropped a third down throw. Garoppolo survived six sacks, including two by Alex Anzalone and two by Alim McNeill.

But he was only 10-of-21 for 126 yards and an interception for a 46.9 passer rating, and Adams caught only one of seven targets for 11 yards.

Goff went 26-of-37 for 272 yards with a touchdown and an interception, a pick returned 75 yards for a touchdown by Marcus Peters.

Gibbs had his breakout game, with 26 carries for 152 yards and a touchdown and five receptions for 37 yards, and Amon-Ra St. Brown caught six passes for 108 yards.

Jimmy G leads the NFL with 9 INT's even after missing 2 games. After the game, McDaniels said; “We’re going to have to be able to pass the ball better than what we’re doing in order to win.” - Pure genius he is.

Monday Night TRADE... Eagles have sent defensive lineman Kentavius Street to Atlanta. Eagles get a conditional sixth round pick next year, while the Falcons get Street and a seventh rounder in 2025.

Atlanta lost defensive tackle Grady Jarrett to a torn ACL on Sunday, so they were scrambling to pick up a replacement at the trade deadline. I'd say they did pretty well - Street played for new Falcons DC Ryan Nielsen last year when both were with the Saints, so Street is already familiar with the defensive concepts. It's as close to a plug-and-play situation as the team could hope to find.

    TRADE

Veteran cornerback Rasul Douglas is heading to Buffalo.

The Packers have traded Douglas and a fifth-round pick to the Bills for a third-round pick, with the deal finalized just minutes before the NFL trade deadline, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

The 28-year-old Douglas originally entered the NFL as a 2017 third-round pick of the Eagles and has also spent time with the Panthers, Raiders, Texans and Cardinals before joining the Packers. Douglas has started all seven games this season.

For the Packers, it’s another reminder that this is a rebuilding season in Green Bay: They’re not going anywhere this year, and they’d rather acquire a higher draft pick than keep a veteran.

For the Bills, Douglas represents depth in the secondary for a team that has Super Bowl aspirations.

    TRADE

The Lions have acquired receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones from the Browns, Detroit announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Cleveland will receive a 2025 sixth-round pick in the deal.

Peoples-Jones, a 2020 sixth-round pick, had seemed to fall out of favor within Cleveland’s offense. After making 61 catches for 839 yards with three touchdowns last season, he’s recorded just eight catches for 97 yards in 2023.

“We’re excited about the kid,” Lions G.M. Brad Holmes said in a press conference just after making the trade. “He’s had good production in the past. He’ll be a good fit here. He’s been a high-character kid.

“Obviously, he’s from Detroit, he’s a local kid. So I think he’ll be very, very happy. I just talked to the kid, he’s fired up about getting this process going. All these moves that we make [are] always the best thing for the franchise, best thing for the team. And that’s every single move we make. So that’s the best way I can sum it up for the reason why.”

Peoples-Jones also played his college ball at Michigan.

Peoples-Jones has caught 117 passes for 1,837 yards with eight touchdowns in 50 games with 30 starts.
