The Vikings put Justin Jefferson on injured reserve Wednesday and they put another member of their wide receiver corps on the injury report.

Jordan Addison was listed as a limited participant in practice. An ankle injury was given as the reason for Addison’s limited participation, but there was no sign of an issue during last Sunday’s loss to the Chiefs.

Addison had six catches for 64 yards and a touchdown in that game. The first-round pick has 19 catches for 249 yards and three touchdowns on the season.

The Vikings signed N’Keal Harry and Trishton Jackson off the practice squad Wednesday. Addison, K.J. Osborn, Jalen Nailor, and Brandon Powell are the other wideouts on the active roster.

Defensive end Marcus Davenport (elbow) and cornerback Akayleb Evans (knee) were also listed as limited participants. Safety Lewis Cine (hamstring) and running back Kene Nwangwu (back), who was designated for return from injured reserve Wednesday, were full participants.

I get so tired of the Cousins trade talks or JJ trade stuff every time something goes wrong or someone gets injured. Im also tired of the players dropping footballs and then KOC just says simple stuff like, we gotta be better. Maybe KOC needs to get a little toughr and show some emotion and chew some asses out, these Vikings are too lackadaisical... looking like their going through the motions by a lot of them and a handful of them are in full panic and paranoid mode they cant execute. Its been a wasted season already and we are 5 games in.

For me personally, I quit getting to emotional about it years if not decades ago. During the game I loose it sometimes, but I get over it and move on to next week... these Vikings have me desensitized.

They sure know how to take one of the most talented teams in the NFL and blow it all up. Maybe they should start at the top and blow that up first and work their way down? Got talent with no leadership or sense of direction, but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it and that seems to be the attitude of the entire organization and THATS the big problem.

 

The Vikings have gone through some bad times but not like this GM needs to show some leadership and fire maybe get on KOC case,cause it's a mess and nobody is rowing the boat I'm just disappointed Purple and Gold forever GO VIKINGS

 

Report: Justin Jefferson will miss 4-6 weeks

The Vikings have lost receiver Justin Jefferson for at least four weeks. It’s fair to ask whether he’ll return this season — or ever.

While not likely, it’s at least possible the hamstring injury that knocked Jefferson out of Sunday’s loss to the Chiefs will be his final time in a Minnesota uniform. Whether he returns will depend on what he wants, and on what the Vikings are willing to do.

For now, he’ll miss at least four games on injured reserve. Adam Schefter of ESPN.com pegs the absence at 4-6 weeks, with imaging tests on the injured muscle coming in four weeks.

There’s no reason for Jefferson to push it. Beyond the fact that the Vikings are 1-4, with the 49ers (and a fifth or sixth loss) looming in nine days, Jefferson does not have his long-term financial security. He was willing to commit before the regular season began, but the Vikings were not willing to give him the structure he needed.

And so, unless the Vikings are legitimately in the mix for a playoff berth by the middle of November, why should Jefferson push it? Even then, he’d be within his rights to wait for full and complete 100-percent health to return before putting himself at risk.

The question then becomes what happens after the season? We raised the possibility in the 2023 offseason of a 2024 trade, barring a long-term deal. If, as it seems, the Vikings are intent on attempting to draft a future franchise quarterback, Jefferson could be used to either sweeten the pot for a move to the top of the draft or to acquire additional assets to be used for a push from wherever the Vikings finish in the pecking order to striking distance for who would be their first true franchise quarterback since Fran Tarkenton.

Hovering over all of this is whether Jefferson wants to stay in Minnesota. Multiple receivers have, in recent years, gotten trades simply by asking for them. Jefferson possibly reels underappreciated, given the absence of a long-term deal. Also, in lieu of waiting for a franchise quarterback to come to the Vikings, Jefferson might want to join one elsewhere.

Regardless of how it plays out, there’s a chance the relationship between player and team hangs in the balance. And one key data point for both sides will be the performance of the Vikings’ receiving corps without the 2022 NFL offensive player of the year on the field for at least four games, if not the rest of the season.

As the Vikings try to beef up their defense, they’ll be missing one of their beefiest presences.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that edge rusher Marcus Davenport suffered a high-ankle sprain during Sunday’s win over the Bears.

Rapoport adds that Davenport is a candidate to land on injured reserve, which would result in Davenport missing at least four games.

A former first-round pick of the Saints, Davenport signed a one-year, $13 million deal with the Vikings in March.

He has two sacks in four games played this season.

The 49ers had three key players suffer injuries during Sunday’s loss to the Browns. But there is some positive news on all three.

Running back Christian McCaffrey, receiver Deebo Samuel, and left tackle Trent Williams all have avoided long-term injury and they all have a chance to play against the Vikings next Monday night, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

McCaffrey suffered an oblique injury and did not return to the game. Samuel exited with a shoulder injury and did not return. Williams had an ankle injury but was able to come back and finish the contest.

Because the 49ers play on Monday, they will not release an injury report until Thursday.

Report: Vikings “receiving calls” on Danielle Hunter

The trade deadline is coming, as it does every year at this time. Which also means that there will be plenty of talk about players who might be traded, as there is every year at this time.

It also means that there will be efforts to conjure interest when perhaps there might not be as much as a team would prefer. As there is every year at this time.

That’s why we always wonder about reports that, for example, the Vikings are “receiving calls” about veteran pass rusher Danielle Hunter. There have been times when a team “receiving calls” has actually been making the calls. And the team usually leaks that it’s “receiving” calls in an effort to manufacture some/any leverage in trade talks.

Regardless, whenever there’s a report that a team has been “receiving calls” about the player, the team that might trade the player is the most likely source of the information. Any of the teams that might have called about the player might not know that there are multiple teams calling. And any team that would hope to secure Hunter on favorable terms would not want to fuel a potential competition for the player’s services.

Hunter is in the final year of his contract, at a base salary of $10 million, along with $1.5 million in per-game roster bonuses.

For the Vikings, the question becomes whether any compensation received now for Hunter would offset the expected 2025 compensatory draft pick, if/when he leaves in 2024.

Hunter is in his eighth season with the Vikings. He set the record for most career sacks before the age of 25. He then missed all of the 2020 season with a neck injury, and played seven games in 2021.

Last year, he had 10 sacks in 17 games. This year, he has eight sacks in six games.

Whether the Vikings ultimately move Hunter will also be influenced by what happens for them in the next seven days. They host the 49ers tomorrow night, and then they travel to Lambeau Field for a game against the Packers.

Lose both? Sell. Win both? Hold. Split the two? Who knows?

Former NFL GM gives Vikings advice about Kirk Cousins



Former NFL general manager and current ESPN personality Mike Tannenbaum believes the Minnesota Vikings should think twice before they let polarizing quarterback Kirk Cousins reach free agency in March 2024.

"We can argue about whether Kirk is a great player," Tannenbaum recently told Kevin Seifert and Nick Wagoner of ESPN. "But he's definitely a good, solid player, and I know I'd be hard-pressed to let him walk out the door. One thing we always talk about with players is that while they're not perfect, who is coming in the door to replace them and how much is it going to cost to do that?"

Cousins turned 35 years old in August, is on track to reach free agency after the season and became the subject of numerous rumors after the Vikings began the campaign at 1-4 and will be without star wide receiver Justin Jefferson through the Oct. 31 trade deadline because of a hamstring injury. Interestingly, Cousins neither confirmed nor denied before Minnesota beat the Chicago Bears in Week 6 if he'd consider waiving his no-trade clause to join a contender this fall.

Jefferson previously made it known that he "would love to have Kirk and continue my journey with Kirk" beyond this season. The 2-4 Vikings, meanwhile, have 2023 fifth-round draft pick Jaren Hall listed as Cousins' primary backup heading into Monday night's matchup at the 5-1 San Francisco 49ers.

Tannenbaum added the Vikings should look to both bring Cousins back and draft a hoped-to-be future franchise signal-caller as soon as next spring.

"I think the way our game is going, you can't have enough of them," Tannenbaum said about quarterbacks. "I would be hard-pressed not to say, 'Hey, here's whatever the number is, whether it's $80 [million], $85 [million], $90 million for two years, do that for Cousins, and draft his successor."

According to ESPN stats, Cousins began Monday ranked 16th in the NFL among qualified players with a 55.9 adjusted QBR and sixth with a 100.6 passer rating on the season. He tossed 14 touchdown passes and four interceptions over Minnesota's first six contests.

49ers have no excuses, injuries are part of the game. If Cam Heyward was healthy the Steelers wouldn’t be getting destroyed in the running game defense. We still have found ways to win the games. Camryn Bynum - Defensive Player of the Week...

A sterling effort and a second interception of the evening from Bynum sealed the Minnesota Vikings' 22-17 upset of the San Francisco 49ers on Monday. Bynum, who followed Jordan Hicks as the second straight Viking to be named NFC Defensive Player of the Week, finished the game with nine tackles and a pair of interceptions.

Im not a Hall fan at all, but who knows. Im thinking the Vikings better get the next best QB available before Tuesday or this team is headed nowhere.

Its not really possible to replace a man of Cousins caliber who was having an unbelievable MVP style season, but if they get someone who can be at least there every weekend and somewhat consistent they might have a chance.

Outside the locker room after the game the Vikings players were in shock, some crying... this is just a totally F'd up situation.

Im very saddened at the moment, but Im still sipping on a drink and watching the NFL... Its going to take a while for this shit to pass.
