Anthony Richardson underwent shoulder surgery Tuesday Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson’s rookie season is finished, but he is on the road to recovery. Richardson underwent season-ending surgery Tuesday to repair his injured right shoulder, Colts owner Jim Irsay announced on social media on Tuesday. “QB Anthony Richardson’s surgery today in LA was a success!” Irsay wrote. “It was a long procedure and his shoulder injury has been repaired. No new surprises were found during surgery - they just repaired what was expected. Anthony is doing well and thanks everyone for the support. (There is presently no date for his return.)” Irsay announced last Wednesday that Richardson would have the surgery. Richardson was injured on a designed run during the team’s Week 5 victory over the Titans. The No. 4 overall pick in this year’s draft, Richardson completed 60 percent of his passes for 577 yards with three touchdowns and one interception in four games. He also rushed for 136 yards with four touchdowns. He had multiple injuries this season, missing time in one game with a knee injury, missing a game with a concussion and then injuring his shoulder. Titans expect Will Levis to start on Sunday Titans rookie quarterback Will Levis appears likely to make his NFL debut on Sunday. The Titans are preparing for Levis to start Sunday against the Falcons with starter Ryan Tannehill dealing with an ankle injury, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Titans coach Mike Vrabel confirmed yesterday that Tannehill could miss Sunday’s game and that both Levis and Malik Willis would likely play if Tannehill can’t, but it hadn’t been announced that Levis has moved ahead of Willis on the depth chart. Willis has appeared in two games this year in relief of Tannehill; Levis hasn’t played yet. Levis is a talented prospect who had been viewed as a potential Top 5 draft pick this year, and it was a surprise when he was still available to the Titans with the second pick of the second round. Now he’ll get an opportunity to show he’s ready to play at the next level. PFT
I like this move by the Titans..........Levis needs the Reps. I'm sure the Falcons will win the game .......BUT Titans can look to the future.
Deshaun Watson out for Week 8, P.J. Walker will start An MRI taken on Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson’s right shoulder after he left last Sunday’s game in the first half reportedly showed no additional damage, but the existing damage is enough to keep him out this week. Watson missed the previous two Browns games because of the shoulder injury and the team announced before Wednesday’s practice that Watson will not be participating. Head coach Kevin Stefanski announced a short time later that Watson will not play against the Seahawks. Stefanski said that there is “residual swelling” from the hit that knocked Watson out last Sunday and that the belief is that rehab is the best course for the time being. They also signed P.J. Walker to the 53-man roster on Wednesday because he was out of practice squad elevations and Stefanski announced that he will start. Running back Jerome Ford (ankle), wide receiver Marquise Goodwin (back), running back Kareem Hunt (thigh), tight end David Njoku (knee), and linebacker Sione Takitaki (hamstring) are also out of practice for the Browns. PFT
In my opinion, there is still a chance that Tannahill may start. He's out of practice today, but doing much better. The word on Levis is still mostly conjecture by the Talkin' Heads. Soon we will see/hear in a definitive way from the Titans.
Thanks for the Update Will. Also on the Browns Watson.....I was contemplating driving down to Seattle and get Scalp tickets for the game. Lumen Field is always fun and noisy to watch a game BUT I think I will stay home and watch it from the couch. I agree with your Take on Levis.
Apparently, Willis and Levis might play. "Head coach Mike Vrabel indicated earlier this week he envisioned both Levis and Malik Willis getting playing time Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons." ~ FOX SPORTS Tannehill who has a high ankle sprain could be out 6 weeks ive read also.
Kyle Shanahan: Brock Purdy is in the concussion protocol It might be Sam Darnold time for the 49ers in San Francisco. Coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters on Wednesday that starting quarterback Brock Purdy is in the concussion protocol. Shanahan said that Purdy started having concussion-related symptoms on the flight home from Minnesota. As explained on Tuesday’s PFT Live and mentioned here, Purdy was rocked by a hit from Vikings linebacker Jordan Hicks when attempting a quarterback sneak on third and short in the fourth quarter. The overhead view showed just how violent the contact was. He threw both interceptions to Vikings cornerback Cam Bynum after that moment. However, there was nothing about Purdy’s demeanor that suggested he was feeling the effects of a brain injury. Will Purdy will be cleared to play on Sunday? Given that the concussion was suffered on late Monday night, it won’t be easy to get full clearance. If Purdy isn’t cleared, Darnold would get the start against the Bengals on Sunday. If Darnold plays, he would be backed up by former Bengals backup Brandon Allen. The 49ers are on a bye in Week 9. The play the Jaguars in Jacksonville in Week 10. NBC
Nick Sirianni: We’re confident Jalen Hurts will be ready to go Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is dealing with a left knee injury, but it doesn’t seem like it’s going to keep him from playing. Hurts was wearing a brace during the second half of Sunday’s win over the Dolphins. “We’re confident that he’ll be ready to go, but any time these guys are working through pain and things like that, I mean, they’ve got to — we anticipate him to go, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy,” head coach Nick Sirianni said during his Wednesday press conference. “Again, we’ll see. We’re not going to be out on the field running around today, so I still need a little bit more time. “I think he’s feeling better. I’ll let you guys ask him that. We’re hopeful there will be no limitations on Sunday.” Hurts was 23-of-31 for 279 yards with two touchdowns and an interception on Sunday. He rushed 11 times for 21 yards with a TD. He said in his Wednesday press conference that the injury didn’t occur during the game. “It’s just something that we’re dealing with day-by-day, taking it one day at a time,” Hurts said, adding that he wasn’t really thinking about the brace. “Just trying to find ways to win.” Hurts added that he didn’t want to make the injury more than what it is. “Things happen and you find ways to overcome them,” Hurts said. Hurts has completed 67.2 percent of his passes for 1,821 yards with nine touchdowns and eight interceptions. He’s also rushed for 274 yards with six TDs. PFT
Cardinals QB Kyler Murray (knee) full participant in practice on Wednesday Kyler Murray cleared another checkpoint on Wednesday on his road back from ACL surgery to the field. The Cardinals quarterback was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, per the team's mid-week practice report. Murray's participation followed Jonathan Gannon's stated plan earlier in the day to "get him out there today and see where it goes." It does not, however, mean he's suddenly going to suit up and start in Arizona's Week 8 game against the Baltimore Ravens. Arizona intends to take it slowly with Murray, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported on Sunday, with no reason to rush him back and risk further complication. Joshua Dobbs has manned the role in Murray's place and is performing well enough to allow the Cardinals to exercise patience with the star signal-caller. The main benefit of Murray's return, of course, is the start of a test to see how he fits in the new coaching staff's system, and whether Arizona's future will include Murray. He'll eventually begin such a test, but not until both he and the Cardinals feel completely comfortable with his health and physical preparedness. Fully participating in practice signifies progress in this process, not a finish line. That will come when Murray is officially ready to play, which Rapoport reported could be as early as Nov. 5, when Arizona takes on Cleveland. Until then, we'll continue to monitor Murray's progress, which appears to be rather positive as of now. NFL.com
Per Mike Florio/PFT... Its an opinion of his, but interesting none the less. Strange vibe continues between Browns and Deshaun Watson There’s a strange vibe between the Browns and quarterback Deshaun Watson. And nothing that has happened in recent days has caused it to dissipate. It started in Week 4. In the days after Watson had perhaps the best game of his Cleveland career in a 27-3 romp over the Titans, Watson appeared on the practice report with a shoulder injury. He was limited in practice. On Friday, he said he’d play against Baltimore. Then, he didn’t. At 5:04 p.m. ET on the day of the Ravens-Colts game, a source tipped me off to the existence of confusion among some players about Watson not playing. It was believed he would play. It was perceived he decided not to. Although the team called it a “collective decision” in response to an inquiry from PFT, coach Kevin Stefanski said the very next day that Watson was medically cleared to play. That bolstered the perception that Watson could have played against the Ravens. It was believed he’d be able to go after the Week 5 bye. But he wasn’t able to play against the 49ers, and he returned for Sunday’s game against the Colts. A big hit in the first quarter prompted a concussion evaluation. After the game, Stefanski said he decided to keep Watson out. Stefanski also spoke as if Watson would play this week at Seattle. Watson offered a more measured assessment. As of yesterday, Watson was scratched for the Week 8 game. Although some have suggested that Watson simply doesn’t want to play, it’s way too early to come to that conclusion. He played with a torn ACL at Clemson. He took a bus from Houston to Jacksonville and back again so that he could play a game when he couldn’t fly due to rib/lung injuries. Why would he not want to play, if he could? The Browns are a contender, and before the shoulder injury Watson seemed to finally be rounding back into his pre-2021 form. That said, it would be naive to not at least wonder whether Watson has fallen out of love with the Browns. He wanted out of Houston just a few months after signing a big-money extension. Also, the Browns were the first team Watson scratched from his list of four finalists in 2022, before the Browns offered a five-year, fully-guaranteed contract. So. yes, there’s a weird vibe. Neither the team nor Watson have said or done anything to change the situation. And we’ll continue to monitor things and generally to sniff around about whether the honeymoon has devolved into a standoff that, frankly, leaves both sides with few good options, given that Watson is due to make $46 million in 2023, in 2024, and in 2025, with every penny of it fully guaranteed. It’s almost enough to make us wonder whether a surprise trade could happen before next Tuesday. At this point, however, who would take on the balance of that contract?
Since Purdy was injured/concussed... people went hunting and researching film and this has surfaced. I might add that there was no call and it also eluded, at the time, everyone else, including the broadcast crew. If there will be a fine against Hicks, LB Vikings, it will be announced by Saturday. My advice for QB's is, you might wanna keep your head on and not lead with it when thinking about running the football into a wall of pissed off defenders, or even better... hand the ball off.
Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson won’t be playing against the Seahawks this Sunday, but it’s not because he doesn’t want to be in the lineup. The question of whether Watson wants to play has bandied about since he was scratched from the lineup with a right shoulder injury in Week Four and it has come up again after his brief return to the lineup last weekend. Watson told reporters at a press conference on Thursday that he thought he was ready to return after missing two full games, but found that he “just didn’t have the strength to go out there and play a complete game” after taking a big hit early in the win over the Colts. Watson was later asked about the conjecture about his desire to be on the field. “Why wouldn’t I want to play? I just worked my ass off for two years to get back to playing, so why wouldn’t I want to play? This is what I’ve been doing since I was six years old, so why wouldn’t I want to play” I see the same things, I see all the narratives, this and that,” Watson said. “All that stuff is just trying to cause controversy and commotion. I’m fine. I’m happy. I’m not happy with the injury. I’m in a great space mentally, I’m in a great space spiritually.” Watson said anything that’s said about him that doesn’t come from him is “bullshit” and said that there are “no negative vibes” around the Browns despite the disappointment about the rotator cuff injury. He said he’s now working to “get the pain away and try to get back on the field as soon as possible,” but it will be Week Nine at the earliest before he’ll be back on the field with the team. PFT
Wow, that is interesting. As you say no one, apparently, picked up on it at the time. The truth is we(as in humans) dont know nearly enough about the brain and its responses to fine trauma to be able to quantify stuff like this, especially in extreme short timeframes. When they get up and fall back on their face it's pretty solid ground, pardon the pun, but really all the concussion protocol comes down to right now is can a player pass it off in those crucial seconds between plays. If they can the show goes on. Clearly no one knew anything cos Shanahan called another sneak the very next play ha. What so interesting about this is that Purdy, while not lighting it up, was having another very solid game. Then the 1st pass attempt after that hit he throws a pick. And a pick that was nowhere near the receiver either. Then the next drive he throws another one.... I haven't seen much NFL news this week but i wonder with it being a MNF game if Purdy will still be in the protocol for the Bengals game. If so then exactly what was touched upon the other week will happen, we'll get to see Sam Darnold have a turn at the easiest job in pro sports!
