  2. Torgo M.V.P. Manager Falcons

Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn had talked with Shanahan about potentially coaching together when Quinn was still with the Seahawks. When Quinn was hired to replace Mike Smith as Atlanta's head coach, he knew he wanted Shanahan as his offensive coordinator because he thought it was hard as hell to coach against Shanahan's offenses.

I'm a little surprised that other teams hadn't exposed the weaknesses in Quinn's defenses this season until now. In his final year with the Falcons, opposing offenses were literally laughing at the predictability and the vulnerability of his defense here.

It was good to see GMFB give this the coverage that it deserves. Not the catch, but the camera work.

Early stories that mentioned it said it was done with a rooftop mounted camera. Nope. Falcons media ace Austin Hittel got the video using a handheld camera while strapped to the catwalk that goes around the roof of the stadium.

Thats the kind of stuff thats cool, goes unnoticed, but when revealed its awesome.

I like the ball control skills and hands of Bijan or everybody and their brothers would have been ripping Ridder for tossing it behind him.

PS - that shot reminded me of the 'blimp view' on my billion year old Sega machine. ;)

Tyreek Hill is well ahead of pace for his goal of a 2,000-yard season

When Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill talked during the offseason about his goal of 2,000 receiving yards, it sounded like an extreme long shot: Hill is great, but no one has ever had 2,000 receiving yards in a season in NFL history, and even last year, when Hill played all 17 games and played at a very high level, he fell nearly 300 yards short of that milestone.

But five games into this season, Hill’s goal of 2,000 yards doesn’t seem so unlikely. Hill has 651 receiving yards through five games, which puts him on pace for 2,213 yards in a 17-game season.

Hill already has three games this season with at least 150 receiving yards. On Sunday, he can become the first player in NFL history to record at least 150 receiving yards in four of his team’s first six games in a season.

Hill’s 11 career games with at least 150 receiving yards are the fourth-most in NFL history, behind only Lance Alworth (16), Jerry Rice (14) and Calvin Johnson (12).

Hill also can become just the fifth player in NFL history to have 750 receiving yards within his team’s first six games in a season. The others are Don Hutson with the 1942 Packers (819 receiving yards), Charlie Hennigan with the 1961 Houston Oilers (812), Wes Welker with the 2011 Patriots (785) and Elroy “Crazylegs” Hirsch with the 1951 Rams (766).

It’s been an extraordinary start to the season for Hill, one that has put his extraordinary goal within reach.

The parents of Lions linebacker Alex Anzalone, who were in Israel when Hamas unleashed a series of terrorist attacks, have arrived home in the United States.

Anzalone’s mother posted on social media that she was home, hours after Anzalone himself posted that his parents were on their way.

“Thank you to everyone who has been saying prayers for my family and their safety. It’s been a scary, anxiety filled several days but my parents are headed home safely. So many people to thank but I know this, God is good,” Anzalone wrote.

Tonight is a sportsaholic dream come true. I have a MLB Playoff game to watch, NHL (Red Wings Opener) and the NFL TNF thing. This PC is a good streamer, so I will view all 3 at once, have some snackage, sit on my ass and get fat.

    Sound like a plan?

Briefly I'll say this. Its kinda strange how he's getting bashed by big-shot talking heads on ESPN and such when he has really good stats. His QBR is good, his TD to INT is good, but yet he gets ripped a lot. He's up from last year and I look forward to this convo as it progresses.

Thursday Night Football: Chiefs’ 19-8 victory is 16th win in a row over Broncos

The Chiefs won’t frame Thursday night’s game and hang it on the wall, but a win is a win is a win is a win. . . .

Kansas City beat Denver 19-8 for its 16th consecutive game against the Broncos, the third-longest such streak in NFL history. The Chiefs are 5-1, winning their fifth game in a row, while the Broncos fell to 1-5.

The Chiefs were uncharacteristically inefficient, scoring one touchdown on five red zone possessions, converting only four of 12 third downs and getting seven penalties for 84 yards. They had 389 yards but only 19 points.

On a windy night, Harrison Butker made field goals of 35, 60, 25 and 52 yards. His 60-yarder came on the final play of the first half and his 52-yarder iced the game with 1:55 left in the game.

The Broncos, who were characteristically inefficient, briefly made it a game. Courtland Sutton had a highlight-reel catch on an 11-yard pass from Russell Wilson with 6:07 remaining, and Javonte Williams’ run on the two-point conversion pulled the Broncos within 16-8.

But the Chiefs drove 41 yards in nine plays to set up Butker’s final field goal.

Patrick Mahomes went 30-of-40 for 306 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Travis Kelce, with Taylor Swift watching from his suite, caught nine passes for 124 yards despite a sprained ankle. Kadarius Toney had the team’s only touchdown on a 3-yard catch.

The Broncos had only 197 yards, with Justin Reid and Nick Bolton getting picks for the Chiefs and Willie Gay recovering a Samaje Perine fumble. The Chiefs had four sacks, including one by Reid and one by Chris Jones.

Russell Wilson was 13-of-22 for 95 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. He also had four carries for 31 yards. Sutton had four catches for 46 yards.

Cowboys great Walt Garrison dead at 79

Garrison helped the Cowboys beat the Miami Dolphins in the 1972 Super Bowl

Walt Garrison, a former NFL fullback who played nine seasons with the Dallas Cowboys and won a Super Bowl with them in 1971, has died. He was 79.

Garrison was a star at Oklahoma State before the Cowboys selected him in the fifth round of the 1966 NFL Draft.

He was also drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs, who were in the American Football League at the time.

He was with the Cowboys from 1966 to 1974, retiring as the team’s No. 3 rusher and No. 4 receiver. He gained 3,886 rushing yards.

The team announced Garrison’s death on its website but did not reveal a cause.

Garrison was a cowboy off the field too. The team said he would go out after team meetings and compete in local rodeos as a steer wrestler. He would return to the team hotel before an 11 p.m. curfew.

"I wasn’t starting," Garrison once said. "I was returning punts and kicks and covering on the kamikaze squad, that’s all I was doing. And, hell, you could get hurt worse on them than you can rodeoing. I didn’t think much about it, but the Cowboys did."

Legendary Cowboys head coach Tom Landry prevented Garrison from moonlighting as a regular cowboy during the season, but he continued in the offseason.

"Coach Landry pointed out that there was a clause in my contract that if I got hurt doing another sport, that my contract would be null and void," he was quoted as saying. "And I said, ‘OK.’ I didn’t think rodeo was that dangerous."

Garrison was injured in 1975 while steer wrestling and called it a career in football.

At the height of his fame with the Cowboys, Garrison was also a national spokesman for Skoal.

Sean Payton says he made a “boneheaded mistake” calling timeout forgetting what down it was

Broncos coach Sean Payton acknowledged making a big game management mistake late in the first half of Thursday night’s loss to the Chiefs.

Payton called a timeout before a Broncos punt with 22 seconds to go before halftime, at a time when it was the Chiefs who should have been calling timeout. Payton said he thought it was third down and he wanted to get another offensive play called.

“That’s a boneheaded mistake by me. They were calling one as well and I’m off by a down, but that was stupid,” Payton said.

After the punt, the Chiefs’ offense proceeded to get the ball to the Broncos’ 42-yard line, and Harrison Butker nailed a 60-yard field goal before halftime.

It was, indeed a boneheaded mistake. And it was emblematic of a Broncos season that has been full of mistakes. Payton was brought in with high expectations that he’d have the Broncos competing in the AFC West. Instead, with the Broncos at 1-5 and the Chiefs at 5-1, Kansas City remains the class of the division, and Denver is more likely to compete for the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft.
